Shane Mumford is a perfect example- Swans desperately needed a ruckman - paid pick 28 for Mumford who was 3rd choice ruckman and dangled a reported $3M contract for 3 years at him - I dont believe the money reported but i would suggest he got from day one in excess of $500K per year.

Good deal or bad deal for the Swans ? I say a good deal but I have 3 years of history to look back on.

Dawes a good deal or a bad deal ? the punt looks well worthwhile - give me a couple of years to come back to you if the punt paid off or not.

like all things to do with player selection Nothing is guaranteed and Time will show as you suggest.

Text msg from my collingwood mate yesterday ' im giving you [censored] now because in 2 years you will be a powerhouse' my response 'suck my dick'

That had everything, clever wit, charm, irony.

You sir are a comic genius.

When I first started work I entered a system where promotion on merit had just replaced promotion by seniority...and there were grumblings. In the late 1980s, governments were using the phrase "affirmative action" to explain strategies to redress gender imbalance and increase female participation in senior roles...and there were grumblings. In 2012 the MFC arguably "pays overs" for particular talent...and there are grumblings.

The first two examples paid off. Whether the third will remains to be seen - but if you want to make cultural change, if you want to do more than stand still, you have to do more than exchanging like for like.

Sounds like you are in the job that I just retired from.......a thin line??????

To improve our stock we had to pay overs.

Jurrah walks for nothing.

Moloney walks for nothing without any resitance from the MFC.

Next year i expect the same. The war chest will be used again until the "value" of our list gets to an acceptable level. Then we can "Trade"

Until then we must Buy. I am very happy the club seems to finally be in a position to do this.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
