Cloke or Boak????

Featured Replies

Well that didn't help me much, you answer my question with a question, well done.

My question, in case you didn't understand it, was, is he worth paying a lot of money for, what does he have that makes him worth trading a good draft pick for?

Does that help, do you have an answer or just more questions?

RF, your question started with a statement inferring we were going to pay over the Odds for Boak. How do you know that?

He's a hard worker, was recruited as a very good endurence mid.

Had a great year last year, but has been mostly unhappy away from Vic.

Is hotly persued by the Cats & the Bombers, amongst others, to help ease they're mounting midfield woes.

#Paying over the odds, I don't know about that, but i'd be happy to give our mid 1st Rnd pick plus a player,, & a Healthy pay packet to him.

My question started with a question, have another look at it.

I was after some information about the player and wondered why some on here were prepared to offer a fairly high pick for him and was he worth it, that was all.

I have no idea what he's worth or how good he is; I do know we lack leg speed and maybe he has some of that.

I have a simila level of knowledge regarding Boak RF, from what i gather he is pretty all round, Good endurance, hard work, leadership ect, i dont know if he is any better than Jones (this season), but in saying that i would think Jones is worth a top 10 pick on what he is showing, i would not offer pick 4 off what i know of Boak.

The other selling point is his age and that he can make an instant impact compared to many high draft picks.

I dont see how a draft of Viney, Vlastuin and Boak wouldnt offer pretty instant improvement to our midfield. Then hope for some Gysberts improvement between now and next season and it will be like bringing in 4 high qaulity Mids in one off season....

I dont think pick 12 will be enough to get him though.......

You know we lack leg speed??? We need a lot more than just leg speed.

We need toughness physical & mental by the bucketful. Before leg speed. Then we need to find more foot speed but the movement of the ball is the most important.

Having plenty of flashy types & good runners but without the guts & endeavour has been our achilles heal for Eons. = Culture

I'd much rather be like the current Cats team, full of honesty & strength & courage, but slowish, than full of blistering speed used to run away.

Give me players who'll attack the contest like there'll be no tomorrow before the fleet feet brigade.

You're good aren't you??????

You take one part of what I say and try to take that as being my only concern. I was after information but you just want confrontation; I'm not interested I have many other issues on my mind.

I did have a chuckle. Surely we cant stuff it up this time!!! I will go and hide for the rest of my life otherwise!

Who would you pick up at #4 Jose???

I don't know enough about the kids available.

If I'm guessing who would be left there, it'd be out of Stringer, Vlastuin and Toumpas, with Toumpas the favourite.

I don't want confrontation. I try to avoid it where possible.

PS: you have been one of ther Most confrontational posters I've ever seen, on 'Ology, etc.

But in a forum where people deride others wrongly, I say my piece.

I saw your 1st sentence as more of an inferment of Boak costing massive over the Odds money. Compared to whats being offered to Cloke, he'd be nowhere near as expensive.

Boak would be much more affordable option.

So you thought you'd stir the pot did you?

Well I guess by now you realise you were wrong.

I'd be going Sidebottom before Boak. Such a gun. Only watched 10 minutes of the Pies/Eagles game, but every time he gets it, his distribution and decision making is spot on.

Just re signed with Collingwood

Is sidebottom available, & wanting to leave? I have my doubts he'd leave the Pies. Boak is available.

As RF says signed last week

#Edit: re-signed, there ya go.

Well, that's disappointing. Beams is the only one there then. Beams or Boak? Not totally sold on Beams, but his game yesterday was amazing. Being tagged early on, 34 touches and three goals.

"Not totally sold". Sheez he's turning into the next Scott Thompson and you're "not totally sold".

Ever heard the expression beggars can't be choosers?

  • GAMEDAY: Fremantle

It’s Game Day, and the Demons return to the MCG wounded, undermanned and desperate. Still searching for their first win of the season, Melbourne faces a daunting task against the Fremantle Dockers. With key pillars missing at both ends of the ground, the Dees must find a way to rise above the adversity and ignite their season before it slips way beyond reach. Will today be the spark that turns it all around, or are we staring down the barrel of a 0–6 start?

  • PREVIEW: Fremantle

A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
