Training - Wednesday 11th January, 2012

thanks heaps for the reports guys!

the only thing that worries me is the lack of defensive pressure. i would have the defensive pressure increased so that it is more than in a game. that way a game seems easier. but thats just me!

Nasher, are you for real?

Nit picking - Looking for small or unimportant errors or faults, esp. in order to criticize unnecessarily.

IMO the part of the training report wasnt critical to begin with, so even bothing to post about the error is nit picking. And taking it further, E25 could have just said, "who did you mean by this?" or "we dont have a Johnston on the list". However he chose to list out every person with the name similar to Johnston who have played in the last 5 or so years, to make the error seem all the more silly.

i'll stand by my comment

Stand by it if you wish, but I was merely trying to clarify who he meant.

I was actually wracking my brain to figure out which Johnstone I'd forgotten.

In the end I even tried to help him out, in case there'd been some mistaken identity due to the hair colour...

Anyway, thanks to all who reported.

I was hoping to go on Friday, but the boys have time trials at Visy Park on Friday iirc.

Hey guys went down to training yesterday and this is my 1st report

So a few observations from me....

First of all, as misson has said training sessions have progressed to more focus on the game plan and ball movement rather than fitness and running

- The boys really do look a lot fitter this year , quite a few really have put on some good size in particular Howe, Nicholson and Watts

- the skill level was really good in the wet, jones, gysberts and nicholoson looked to have improved their kicking

- Lucas cook was really clean below his knees and his kicking is very good , with more body size he will be very good IMO

- blease and Sylvia have got excellent acceleration and break away speed

- jack watts' kicking is fantastic to watch, never really misses a target

- clark has got a very good set of hands , he will be invaluable to our fwd line

- Fitzpatrick has really been working hard on his kicking and is so quick for a big man

- taggert and tynan's skills and intensity look good hard to tell that they are 1st yr players

As said previously a lot of the drills were focussing on quick direct ball movement against pressure, I think we will se more kicking to long targets and less run and carry this year. As others have said mark neeld oversees and observes everything at training and the drills are run by the assistants. Aaron greaves is a very good communicator and will really help our midfield I reckon

Can't wait for 2012 so pumped!

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
