concur with above comments about 1976. i was at that game and the dees were on a huge roll, bad luck we didn't make the finals would have won a game or more i'm sure, just like '87. also disagree about '65 and '67. we won 10 out of 18 that year and many losses were by small margins. in '67 we climbed back up the ladder after a disastrous '66, think we fnished 7th. having re-read the above it is all a bit depressing.

1965 was the worst year in my time barracking for the Dees. Won our first 8 games and didn't make the finals. NS sacked. Club in total disarray.

Agree about not making the report public.

I dont think it is appropriate for the MFC to publicly comment specifically about the report in public. But I would hope the report provides useful recommendations that are acted up by the Board to benefit the club.

I dont need to see the report neither do the other 40k members. We may as well post it to the other 17 clubs as well.

I dont see how you will see the results if you dont know what is in the report. I dont think disclosing cofidential information about the Club addresses the actual or perceived doing the right things. Can you provide concrete examples of where members have been ignored. Would a one liner from the Board stating that "The contents of the reports are being considered by the Board in the Club's best interests" Would that make you feel as a member less ignored?

The media are not in the know. And you are speculating as much as the media and establishing as little as they do as fact.

Firstly the media are in the know more than most of us. Secondly the club wants us to sign up as members and then once we are a member they ask for more money to suppor the cause. This is all well and good but there needs to be a level of transparency from the top office as well.

Like all of us I was devastated after the Geelong game but that devastation turned to anger when the loss uncovered all sorts of other issues in the top office. Clearly we don't need to air our dirty laundry but to have the CEO on the verge of being sacked and then reinstated for another year was a joke. The way that leaked out could have been handled much better by the club - even you must concede this RR.

Then this "secret" report that we as members help pay for has not been the subject of any comment from the club. We deserve better than that - there needs to be a level of transparency not cover ups! The MFC needs to manage the communication coming out of the club better so members are informed and not left to speculate. Managing communication is the key - not cover ups and not airing all our dirty laundry. There is a balance and the club has failed on this.

It all gets back to culture - something I have been banging on about for quite some time. A club with a clear and strong culture would manage this. This topic was about our 50 year scorecard and I put the results back to just one thing - lack of culture. It walked out the door the day Norm Smith walked out.

In many cases the media dont know any more than the rest of us (eg Tom Scully affair). I am not sure what sort of transparency you are looking for but at the very least you should expect that the office holders perform their roles honestly, competently and to the best of their capability. We have empowered the Board to to do this for us. If you are not happy with the Board then you, I and others have the power to replace that Board.

Agree. There is definitely a problem with leakage at the Club. In addition the Board has handled this whole situation in the lead to the Geelong game and post that match poorly and in some cases unprofessionally. There are still issues to be sorted out there.

The report is not secret. It is like any other report commissioned by the Club. It like other internal or external reports are not for public issue or consumption. I dont believe there is a cover up. There is more an unprofessional leakage to vulture like media. In general, the MFC have handle communication and engagement of supporters well. But the unauthorised leaks do no one any good.

A club with strong and willing leadership can better manage this. With Stynes incapacitated its clear there has not been the requisite leadership to control and address matters.

And the issues that have plagued MFC over 50 years have been caused by a variety of problems/events that have erupted at different times over time. The issues that we face today are the issues we need to address today. And the constant harping back to the Norm Smith departure is just a monkey on the back of supporters who want to moan about our failures. We need to move on and deal with the present.

And its ironic I would have thought alot of that "culture" went when arguably the greatest ever Demon RDB left 12 months earlier than Smith.

You make a good case with all of the above RR And I think your comment on our Illustrious leader might explain a fair bit.

In the near words of a former famous person "this is the melt down we had to have".

Oh no. I thought we had had enough in the past 50 years!!

Way too many RR but hopefully this latest "disturbance in the force" is a good omen.

Are you happy with that one?

PROF's score of 4/10 for 1976 is ridiculous ! That year, Dee supporters outnumbered the "faithful" in the Vic Park outer for the last game as the Pies collected their one and only Wooden Spoon. We won, of course, and only needed top team Carlton to defeat our only rival for the 5th spot in the then Final Five, Footscray. It was a draw and we missed by 2 points in what would have been our first finals appearance since our last premiership year !

Spot on.

One of the rare moments i can recall that we also out chanted them at their home ground! It was a hollow feeling in the end though as we'd missed out on finals.

I seem to recall the Pies supporters chanting something about the dogs towards the end of the game knowing that we would miss if the Bulldogs won.

Didn't the Pies also collect the spoon in 1999?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
