Foot Skills

How can an AFL team have so many players who are dismal by foot?

Bartram, Morton, Scully, McKenzie, Rivers, Frawley, Garland and Macdonald are all among those who have sub par kicking skills.

How can we expect to be a competitive side with a team full of handballers?

It's an absolute joke and I'm sick of it!

Poor coaching.

No getting around it ... poor recruiting.

We have a great list. Just a waste of potential in my mind. If we pick up a sub par coach at the end of the year, I will lose my [censored].

We all believe we have a great list, with boundless potential, but it's starting to appear that it's a severely unbalanced list.

Proof of this is that half our team today simply cannot kick the sherrin!

And you learn to improve your skills through good.....

Hyperbole.

Yawn...

It doesn't help with a lack of structure for the players to follow. I cannot remember a single stage today where I thought, 'Yep, we've got our structures right'. Each time we looked to go forward, it was long and hopeful, or short and wide. When we got the ball on half back we rarely had line-breakers and our only game-plan was to try a switch in an attempt to catch the Eagles out. Our decision making and skill execution (particularly when entering the corridor) shot us in the foot every time.

we have a list who beleive there own hype. They dont play for the team no one does. They all play for them selfs

Confidence in themselves and their team-mates makes such a difference. Seems they have no confidence ATM.

However, some of the primary school level skill errors out there today was enough to drive Dees supporters to tears. Just unacceptable at this level.

It's the lack of structure and the lack of protection. We dont shepherd. Puts ball carrier under pressure. And we lead away from the player not to. Makes it very difficult for the bloke with the ball when we should be making it easier for the bloke with the ball .

Gotta remember as well how good West Coast are at zoning and pressuring the ball carrier.

They were one of the worst teams in the competition last year for foot skills. This year they carry the ball out of the congestion by hand and can spot up multiple targets up forward because they spread and cover the ground so well.

We just have no structure, nothing. We look up and have nobody to kick to, either because nobody has run hard enough forward of the ball, or nobody is running hard enough to present.

West Coast are smart, they have employed a zone defense to perfection and like other ordinary teams before them (Adelaide), have managed to climb up the ladder by breaking down teams and forcing them to turn the ball over. Will this style stand up in finals against top quality teams? possibly not, but I'd be happy to go from wooden spooners to top 4 finalists. Better than going from crap to slightly less crap with not a single defensive set up in place.

Hopefully our next coach will spend the pre-season smashing our players into defensive submission!!!
