Can you give some insight on your thoughts of the new stadium. Seating ? Atmosphere ?

Sat up the big screen end. Considering the grandstand is in a horse-shoe shape, and behind the goals up the end I sat only has 15 rows or something then the big screen behind it, it was quite impressive. The atmosphere was terrific, which was probably helped by the Gold Coast playing so well in the first half, as well as approx 5,000 Geelong supporters flying up from Vic. I have been to a fair few games at the Gabba in recent times, and can honestly say that it has nothing on the Gold Coast stadium in terms of atmosphere.

It's also great for families, especially up the end I sat, as there were many grassy areas directly behind the big screen where you could kick a footy, as well as auskick-type activities.

Food was as expensive as normal, and the beer was cold. Casino was busy, but the black jack table was paying (oops, I don't encourage gambling in any way).

All in all, it was a very enjoyable night for all the above reasons. Don't get me wrong, nothing compares to the MCG at a Demons home game. I can't wait til we play them there next season, looking forward to it more than playing at the Gabba.

H_T: How would you shuffle the backline so that we have enough talls down there if we replaced Warnock with Strauss?

I reckon we're a bit short as is, and I wouldn't want Gawn playing back.

Well, firstly that's exactly why Warnock shouldn't be out - the concern on lack of size/height down back. And that is my thoughts for selection.

Gawn won't play back. So that leaves Frawley & Rivers as the two key backs. You would need a third tall, so IMO that eliminates the dropping Warnock theory. Unless they brought Davis in. But I don't think they'll do that. The only other alternative is putting Martin back - but I don't think they'll do that either; will they ? Leaving a first gamer in Gawn in doing the bulk of the ruck...? Against a Don-trio ?

They're pretty much my thoughts. Strauss could quite plausibly play without Warnock going out - there are plenty of players we could do without this week, based on the Carlton game.

IN: Trengove, Scully, Gawn, Howe, Blease, Bartram

OUT: Morton, Newton, Bate, MacDonald, Jetta, Evans/Nicholson

Unlucky for one of the recent debutants to get dropped but I think we need to go in with as strong a team as possible to try and roll the Dons.

Strauss unlucky not to be named and Petterd/Jurrah/Warnock lucky to be playing after last week.

Why and the hell didn't I recall that we had Joel Mac in the side... ? *hand up* - overlooked the third tall.

I still don't see that we have many key backs, but hey :P

If I was coaching Essendon I'd try and stretch a Melbourne defence sans Warnock.

Anyway, locking this thread since new discussions have popped up since the team has now been published.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
