Jesse O'Brien kicks a goal for the BL in the first 25 seconds of second term. BL back in front. BL 28 M 26.

BL just received free. Jesse O'Brien again - receiving free

O'Brien again kicks truly ... BL 34 M 26 ... Dees trailing by 8 pts.

Maric takes a mark just inside 50 - Bang! Goal!

Maric kicks his first goal. BL 34 M 32.

We're struggling to beat the competition's easybeats in our home state.

Yes, we have a much weakened defence but we should be doing better.

Dees 5.2.32 Lions 5.6.36

Collier just kicked a behind ... BL 36 M 32

True, but as you said Grimes, Frawley, Batram all out make it a severely weaken defence, and I think they have a few back, I know Power is back and kicked a supergoal.

Clay Beams kicks a goal for BL. BL 43 M 32.

BL has possession in Melb backline

Garland also not there.

Not great so far 49-32 now.

Cmon Dees

Polkinghorne kicks a banana goal. From the pocket. BL now 49. Melb 32.

We aren't looking great at the moment. A lot of kicking to contests, No efficient run and carry. Tackles don't stick. The defense is completely depleted that's one thing to note. Watts looks lost out there again although there isn't any direct ball movement.

Good to see gys and tappy and petterd running around. Ricky starting to take some grabs.

Petterd takes fine mark just outside 50 metres

About to line up for goal.

He kicks but just touched on the line

Watts goals from boundary line!

Watts receives free kick and will now have a shot from just outside 50 - but on the boundary

Watts kicks an outstanding goal - well done son!

Much needed goal from Dees. Melbourne 39 BL 50.

Dees needed that spark ... now down by 11 pts

Ricky Petterd rises to take a fine mark ... quickly gets the ball moving to Rohan Bail, who marks inside 50

Bail kicks a point

Ricky Petterd is playing some fine footy. Plucks them well.

22 games from Rick would be great in 2011

Very much like the Essendon game. Disposal and decision making is aweful.

Is Jurrah playing? cos if he is I haven't heard his name mentioned?

Half-time: BL 7.8.50 to Melb 6.4.40 - Melb trail by 10 pts.

Sounds like a pretty poor first half, even with many of the best 22 missing :(

Half Time - we trail by 10 points.

Goals to Dunn, Jetta, Maric, Martin, Sylvia & Watts

Luke Tapscott v. promising for what is virtually his first hit out with the club. Classy disposer of the ball compared to some of his more seasoned teammates.

Hope we bring out some system after the break.

No jurrah garland trengove grimes Davey from what I can see.

Petterd lifted and took some fine marks that qtr.

The ease at which teams carry the ball out of our fwd line is very frustrating. Luckily lions turn it over as much as us.

Midfield just lacks something at the moment. Just got to hope that the likes of jones and Silvia are still holding back.

I like the size and movement of Howe, should play some footy this yr.

Tapscott is a great positive and his kicking sublime.

Could be the theme of the day, taking away some individual highlights. Tapscott and Petterd so far.

Sounds though Tappy is going well, how many touches has he had?

Tapscott has been very good in first official hit out for Melbourne. His ability to hit targets and his long kicking skills have been on show

Just got some basic stats ... Marks: BL 73 Melb 29, Disposals: BL 187 Melb 144, Rich (14), Adcock (13), McGrath (12), Rockliff (12). Melb: Bail (11), Tapscott (11), Moloney (10)

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
