Mike Sheahan's top 50 for 2010

You were pretty adamant that we should have had more in Sheehan's preseason Top 50.

Err...no I wasn't.

It is very difficult to do a top 50 list, but Mike seems to do a bad a job as any.

Thomas at 9 is purely based on 2 Grand Finals, no doubt. He can't possible justify Dale Thomas at 9 if he did the list before the Grand Final.

I dont understand if he puts so much weight on this seasons performances, why Jobe Watson wasn't in the top 50.

Kade Simpson at 46, no Jobe Watson?

That's the sort of thing that makes Sheehans top 50 irrelevant.

Joke Watson?

Nah, don't rate him.

Alot do.

You and Mike don't.

That says a bit.

Mike & I are both considered to had expert opinions..?

Come on - Jobe Watson?

It's half essendon's problem when he's their best player.

What an embarrassment.

Jobe is a fine player and should have been in the Top 50 for 2010, needs some jets around him though in a big way. I think some people totally miss the point that it is based on the year only and argue incorrectly as a result.

I think Mike sometimes forgets his own rule and has players higher than their actual season should allow them to be, IMO. I think he also, especially of late, puts this huge rating to grand final performances and goes too far and this is why Daisy is so high.

He had a great season Thomas, a lot better than I have previously given credit for.

Hence Watson not in the top 50 makes a mockery of his list.

You don't watch alot of football, do you?

Sheahan's top 50 is only opinion, highly subjective opinion. A considerable man-crush on Daisy is the only reason he has made the top 10. Marc Murphy has topped Daisy from the 2005 draft right up until today, in every way a footballer could, yet Murphy didn't even make the list this year and Daisy finished at 9th. That's not just biased, it doesn't even make sense.

Murphy's a great player, but Daisy had the better year, no doubt about it.

It is the list of the 50 best players of the 2010 AFL Season.

For some reason 90% of people think that this is a list of the best players in the league. I believe he does that list at the start of each season. This list a review of the season just gone.

Yeah, that's fine.

As I said in the quote of mine that you have highlighted, If Sheehan is listing the top 50 players of 2010, leaving Jobe Watson out is criminal.

I'm fully aware of what his irrelevant list is about.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
