If it has to be I guess it is option 6.

And I am sorry to harp on especially in light of the OP attempting to draw away from the argument but when discussing clash strips it is damn hard to hold one's tongue, especially when it comes to the AFL demanding things of some clubs but not others.

On the week of our first home game against Essendon in some time it is an apt time to state this because what will they be wearing this Sunday?

To me they are the only clear clash where I have difficulty distinguishing apart. I would go as far as to say that ESS/MELB is close to the biggest clash of all, yet Essendon are required to do absolutely naught about it.

Can the AFL not throw any sort of bone and at least let us and others come up with variations to approve? What was wrong with the red clash anyway....sorry to hijack redleg but it frustrates me no end.

yeh, it frustrates me equally DJ16. I cant stand seeing us in white jumpers. It is definately not the team of the red and the blue. My gripe is how the AFL dont consider Collingwood and Geelong as a problem, but force the Kanga's to change their jumpers and takes no action against Collingwood. The pies should have an all white jumper. FFS its at least their colours.

But, these are the dictatorships orders and we, as mere serfs of the competition, shall obey. If this is the way it has to be, then lets ensure that this jumper is done RIGHT! the last time we heard we were getting a jumper that was white and were given two mediocre options IMHO. This time, in light of wha we know and foresee as the future, I think we the fans should have more input. Which, is why I will be sending these ideas and any of you 'Landers' to the club. For me, it HAS TO BE MELBOURNE! Not a Footscray knock off!

This is my last offering for 2night. At this stage options 6 and 2 have emerged as the favourites. If you guys prefer any of the others posted by me or others, please reply with the post # . I know we all hate this issue, but if we are forced into a corner over this issue we need to let the club know what US the supporters and members want to see. clashstrip.jpg

something along these lines has merit. Something not quite right about the yoke , not sure ..just not quite right, probably just me. Otherwise its getting very near the answer I reckon. :) ( still dont like the white..but if we have to)

Belzebub - I have taken on board your comments in regards to the Yoke and created this jumper below. It combines the elements of the jumper you have commented on and those ofOption 6, which is clearly the favourite amongst posters ATM. I propose to run the poll until monday and then short list 2 jumpers and a further 2 versions of those two jumpers. I will then ask you all to give a vote on those 4 short listed and I will include the current strip. I think the one below is the best we can hope for. Again, I am interested in your opinions. clashstrip22.png

hmmm... :)

ought to be interesting to see what transpires for next season. My gut feeleing is the club will seek to utilise our 'emblem' whereever possible to promote its effetiveness and consumate our branding. I like the retention of our yoke... White shorts look ...well... a bit.... lol.. But s'pose were stuck there too..

If there was one thing that might embellish...and I know its picky picky.. would be a slight red outline to the logo. It restates..Red and Blue. Just me again. But a lot of this is subliminal imagery etc.

Be interesting again to see what the club rolls out next year :) Nice work there 24

I like the above, but i think the socks need to mostly white or red so they don't clash with opposition dark socks.

Also the upper back of the jumper should be red instead of blue so it keeps in line with our normal jumper.

But other than that i really like the design.

No Jimi...lets pls keep White to a minimum ;) Socks red..or a variation....NO WHITE !!..would look to much like namby soccer kit !!its not the look for our game !! I do like the suggestion of the red back to yoke but probably the idea is to have the white for contrast..Im with you however. Cheers

Good work Redleg.....your response was good previously stating that 'we have no option but white so it is up to us to come up with the best option around these requirements'. Seeing as Cam Schwab visits Demonland quite regularly and I have no doubt many things I have read here of late have actually been taken on board by Cam and the club that it is a great thread you have started for these ideas to flow.

Saying all that I like this option best of all....as far as the socks go, plain white would look awful so hope to see either red or blue which could be alternated with this one jumper depending on who our clash is with?

Jimi, thatnks for the input, I have deliberately made the back blue. The reason being that it adds more red and blue comination. I understand what you are saying but, otherwise it will look like a Sydney Jumper. I will draw one up and you can see what you think. I have slightly changed the one above to include more blue on the back. Meaning less white space. I have also added '1858' in red up the top of the jumper and changed the numbers to red. I will keep working on it til we get there.

Belzebub, I have an idea of the type of logo you are talking about. I will give it a shot clashstrip24.png

that would be this ?

Melbourne_Clash-concept7.gif

am sure Clint wont mind..itsa cleaner effort than the one i did :)

Still reckon something along these lines but perhaps teh "New EMBLEM" in situ rather than the 'MFC" as shown here might be the goods,(as well as appropriate change for sponsors etc ) but only those who have seen the Emblem can make a judgement !! ( which would be ??)

This one. No white!!

Red and blue or blue and red!!!

Unfortunately, since we still need the support of the AFL coffers, we do need to bend to their whim.

Let's face it, we don't have the financial base of a Collingwood or Essendon. That means that our clash jumper will be white for the forseeable future.

Although, thank God for small mercies, we WILL be wearing the red and blue (without white) on Sunday.

Redleg_24, the design in post #64, is clearly a standout. Loving the red and blue socks as a nod the the real jumper as well.

olgerydingo, pays to read the thread mate. The AFL have directed us to wear a predominantly white jumper. If Schwabby is reading this, he might wish to explain why. However, them are the rules. We would all love an all red jumper, or an inverted jumper. It is not what this is about.

Anyway, Jimi, this is what you were talking about clashstrip36.png

now were cooking :)

possibly a small blue panel on shorts in line with jumper ?? just negates a bit more white :)

As a player youd be proud to wear that jumper I think. Yes I know the argument you ought to be proud to wear any but am sure they have some misgivings about some of the past outfits !!

couldnt humour me with a slight red outline to the mfc ? try it.. you might like it !! lol

Great job on the version in post #68 i reckon that's pretty spot on,

good use of the colours and I like the redlegs. If we are forced to

wear white I hope it looks like that. Also I don't think it needs

the red outline on the logo, it makes it more difficult to read, we

need that element to stand out and by putting on a outline the legibility

is diminished quite a lot.

. . . . . . I propose to run the poll until monday and then short list 2 jumpers and a further 2 versions of those two jumpers. I will then ask you all to give a vote on those 4 short listed . . . . .

I think you should add "option 5 - None of the above" if you want to get a representative view.

Personally, I could never vote for a white-based jumper, they are all just appalling. I know we are being backed into a corner on this. So what, I think we should keep applying pressure for a red and blue variant.

One possibility to consider (I'm not necessarily proposing it) is to use different blues and reds (for clash only) e.g. like the old royal blue jumper of the 80's. I know it wasn't the most popular but at least its red and blue and better than white and has at least some connection to history. I'm sure someone could come up with some different shades of red and blue that don't clash with existing clubs and still have the melbourne "look". There is a post a few back that shows the old jumper and you can clearly see the royal blue against the richmond black - quite different compared to navy blue vs black. Anyway, just something different to consider.

Thanks for being a negative twit and clearly paying no attention to anything that has been discussed. I will leave it at that. Don't reply.

Oh and BTW, Option 5 will be the current Clash Strip. Because unless we find an alternative white strip, that is what we will have to deal with for the next 2 years

So, Its your way, or no-way? And I'm a twit to boot! You have'nt changed.

I think there is a lot of people who cringe at the white. I don't accept it's a fait accompli with respect to the AFL.

I just beleive that there's got to be a better design option without reverting to white

At the end of the day it's just an opinion, but thanks for your advice.

It is no my way at all. Have you read my thoughts on the white jumper. Read the OP. I HATE the white jumper. BUT "we are going to be forced by the AFL to wear a predominantly white jumper next year and going forward". Others have confirmed as much from MFC sources. So why carry on the talk about other alternatives. Just for you mate, I have come up with a design that the afl, MIGHT, THINK ABOUT. You can forget the Royal Blue, it clashes WITH The doggies and WCE. L@@K below
