I went to Visy Park today and watched the 2nd Division Under 18's. In the first match, there was one young NT footballer whom seemed to really have it- Steve May. NT beat Q'ld by 15 points. In the other match- decider of the 2nd Division winner,Tasmania belted NSW. Brad Green coached the centreline. One player that took my eye ,a kid by the name of Joshua Green- I do not know if related and another Andrw Phillips-an impressive overage .Nearly 19- 200 cm ruckman/forward.

Is a player who is nearly 19 allowed to play U/18's? I know it has something to do with the birth date of the player, but I have no idea what exactly.

How did Tassies Key forward go 'JCB31' ?

No stand outs as very windy fot talls- Josh Green stood out early however went off in the second quarter and taken to hospital with what looks like broken ribs.Midfielders & mid talls were the highlight with another Reiwolt standing out- Charlie- except a lot smaller-183 cms. Another mid-Sam Darley impressed me-186cms .Note another Thorp also showed a little- this one,Cody is 194 cms, playerd CHF, showing DOB-2ND April 93.Just for HT-May did play last year-DOB-10 Jan 92. 190 CMS- PLAYED FULL BACK, CHB, CHF & FF during the carnival. Moves and seems a natural AFL footballer.I believe he attends Melbourne Grammar.

I believe the league has allowed at least one over age player per team- however in saying this noticed on Tasmania's list- the following :

no2- Ryan Bailey dob- 25 Oct 91

8-Tom Claridge-24 Feb 91

20-Groenewegen-25 Oct 91

31 Carlton-2 March 91

32 Phillips-3 July 91

Therefore must be able to play a mix of 19 year olds and younger.

Thanks Mate.

By the way, I didn't like May last year, he looked to me lazy & laconic & sort of smug. A funny sort of pudgy body shape. The doubt I felt looking at him last year reminded me of Lance whitnall of Carlton. That put me off.

Has he trimmed up his frame & did he work hard?

Had a real laugh with your description but you are very accurate. Seemed to have trimmed down but showed he can really play the game.Seems arrogant possibly is.Will be recruited.

He's always had talent to burn, but seems to live on his reputation alone, & almost looks content with that flamboyance. Also not that tall by todays key forwards.

I have big doubts with him. I might be wrong but I believe my instincts, & I don't go for pretentiousness nor Bling. I just don't think I see the real May showing, if you understand what I'm trying to say.

He seems false, & I see trouble ahead there.

Yep- maybe another Serhat Temel.Shows ability but atitude????????????/

By the way-190 cms tall - again you maybe right - slightly small (like Darling @ WA),for a pivotal key position player.

Just a gut feel, he'll probably be a talented footballer, but maybe tainted, maybe to shallow, maybe too much ego. Remind you of any other Carlton players, past or present?

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
