The Darwin game has cost us tremendously...

We would have lost to Geelong had we vacationed in Hawaii the week before, or had we played on Mars.

We got the 4 points up in Darwin, and came up tired. Better to come back tired and play a game we're no chance of winning, than lose to Richmond at home.

Beautifully put :)

Was a shame the margin got out to what it was.

But in the big scheme Geelong at this point in time are a 8-9 goal better side than us. I think the players had a crack. I noticed we were frustrating Geelong at times with our pressure and turnovers (Great tackling) but we just couldnt hurt them on the scoreboard.

Geelong is a proven team with mature bodies and confidence in their abilities. Melbourne is clearly still in their development stage and we will see further improvement as the year progresses.

The dees had the potential to be closer at the finish if they had been able to capitalise on more of their turnover opportunities. Playing an extra player in defence also meant double teaming in the forward line and extra pressure in our weakest area on the field.

All in all not a bad effort, considering some of the shelackings we have taken over the last couple of years.

I'm sure the future is bright but if we take off the rose coloured glasses it is clear we are well off the pace when it comes teams like Geelong. Even Podsiadly treated our backline with disdain and he's only played a handfull of AFL games. Most Demonlanders rave about our backline and they are fine against most teams, but Warnock and Rivers have trouble with strong bodied opposition and Garland is not the player he was before his foot injury. We really need to strengthen this area.

The positive out of the game was Gysberts with the most disposals (26)

The negative was the senior players going missing again. How embarassing for the team to have a first gamer as nearly our best player. Where was Slyvia(again), Bruce, MacDonald, Jones. Did Jetta and Wona actually play.

Honestly the Geelong players said they didn't play very well. That says a lot about us.

We might be assembling a quality midfield but be have a number of holes to fill down back, forward and ruck before we can compete consistently with the top sides.

Main thing I noticed was difference in body size between their players and ours. We really need to add size strength and muscle to our side especially in key positions. P.S. Jones was good in second half

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
