Juddy's first choice was to come to Melbourne, in fact he came out of the interview with Stynes, Lyon etc and told me that the he was going to Melbourne. Unfortunately reality set it. Not only was the MFC a utter mess off the field, Melbourne also had an old list and was just starting its rebuild. Carlton had already been rebuilding for years. Juddy told me that he plays football to win premierships but unfortunately the MFC was at least 2 years behind Carlton in its rebuild. Even if everything went right, Melbourne’s premiership window would not open until he was in his 30s, where as Carlton premiership window would open while he was still at the peak of his career.

Guess what Juddy was right! More importantly we are far better off having not got him. Due to the draft concessions we have received we have an opportunity to become a genuinely dominate team rather than just a finals "also ran" which would likely be the case had Juddy come to the Dees.

Quite frankly I find some comments on this site from people who have never meet him disgusting. Show more class and stop questioning his integrity because this is one thing that can never be questioned. He is a professional player trying to make the most of his career. If the timing was different, if our current administration were running the show well things may have been different, but as its turned out we are better off without him.

Well said, but i still say Juddy's timing is out by one year. He was not to see the Fevola Fiasco coming. For Judd Carlton's window is open now, will the Blues win the Cup this year?? They looked really good yesterday-but so did Melbourne on Saturday night.

I would have loved to see Judd in a demons Jumper, but i am more excited about Scully, Trengove,Jurrah, Mckenzie, Watts, Chip, Warnock.

We are a young side but so are other clubs this year-with luck 2010 could go our way.

If Judd had come to Melbourne we would not have all the Talent we have now.

Thanks for the information. My understanding was that the reality set in very early in the process. The meeting with Stynes might have been genuine but as the process went on the inference from his reactions and that of his manager was that his interest was elsehwere.

I agree we are better off without him given timing and the cost of getting him.

One one dimension Carlton are maybe two years ahead of us in the development of their star picks. They have 3 no 1 draft picks plus Judd and all have had much more game experience than our more recent arrivals. They have a couple of handy defenders a limited but zippy forward line and a lot of self belief. On the other hand I dont see the quality in their more mature players +50 games to compare with Maloney, Jones, Sylvia, Davey and more.

I thought what was really interesting yesterday was how Carlton matched Geelong for tackling pressure and had the legs and speed to outrun them. I find it very interesting to see that St Kilda and Geelong are not the invulnerable, collossi that we imagined them. If there are enough strong bodies and talented smaller players then they can be beaten. I am rethinking the magic 50 games mark for some of our players - for Trengove and McKenzie for example that mark may be way too conservative.

I wouldnt show that we care what decisions Judd made. I respect him as a great player and I will be happy if we keep him sub 30 possessions when we play.

I don't doubt that you know him, or that your story is true, but if Judd wanted a flag above all else, he would have gone to Collingwood because they were the most advanced in the premiership race and probably still are. The addition of Judd would have almost certainly helped them win a flag, whereas I think the loss of Kennedy has seriously damaged Carlton's chances, especially in light of Fev's departure.

Either way, the universe was working for us with the Judd situation. We lost nothing and won plenty, so he can enjoy playing for scum of the earth and I'll enjoy our rapid development.

Very true Jaded, Collingwood would have been the place to go for a flag. However, there were other influences. Firstly Collingwood was unable or unwilling to satisfy West Coasts demands of 2 very young top ten draft picks. Secondly, West Coast simply refused to negotiate with the woods. Finally Richard Pratt connected with Juddy in a way that Eddy could not. In fact the late Pratt turned into a close mentor of Juddy.
