Shane Carwin to take the heavy weight belt from Lesner, Junior Dos Santos to be his successor..

UFC 112 this saturday, Anderson Silva to destroy... BJ Penn also!! Can't wait!

Damn I missed this thread!

Massive MMA fan, I would have said Lesnar to beat Carwin and Velasquez to be next on the throne.

Will see what happens tommorrow, I'm pumped!

I've been a Velasquez fan for a while and I'm one of the rare ones that likes Brock, so I'll be happy either way, will be huge if Cain takes it though!

BJ turned to [censored] the day I put him in my avatar : (

I've corrected that so hopefully he chokes that [censored] Hughes to death.

I'm also a Anderson Silva fan, the fight with Sonnen was incredible, I thought for a second Silva was human, that was silly. Epic fight that was.

Aussie Grorge Sotiropoulos is killing it, one more win and he'll get a title shot, here's hoping.

If all else fails, I just hope Tito gets his head caved in tommorrow

Posted

Hahaha missed it by that much! Yeah, I was a massive fan of Carwin and thought he was going to take it, but to Lesnars credit he (only just) survived the ground and pound and took it by submission in the second. Gained massive respect for Lesnar after that fight as Carwins power is literally ground shaking.

Would love a Carwin v Lesnar rematch but too many are waiting in line for a heavy weight shot. Ufc 121 is on as we speak- if Valesquez can't get the job done Dos Santos is waiting. That will be massive.

Carwin meanwhile has Roy Nelson next. Do you watch the Ultimate fighter series? Big Country is a whale of a man but he has heart and experience. If his head can withstand a Carwin punch he is a freak and in with a chance as he is very experienced and had Dos Santos worried.. interesting matchup..

121 is a massive card= Gonzaga, sanches, thiago, Kampmann, Shields, Yvel, more ultimate fighters.. huge.

Edgars looking unstopable btw, your boy BJs not looking so dominant anymore.. fun times ahead

Posted

Yeah I love The Ultimate Fighter.

Fat Country's season was a classic, the fights were rubbish, but Rashad (my favourite LHW) and Rampage put on a great show, some classic lines, Rampage is one hilarious dude.

Credit to Big Country, he uses what he has to survive and usually wins, I'm a massive Junior Dos Santos fan too, to survive him punching you in the head for 3 rounds is insane. Surely he couldn't take that from Carwin. I'll tip Big Country by kimura.

Been watching the latest Ultimate Fighter? Pretty good season, can't stand GSP as a fighter, bores me to tears. But the contrasting personalities and coaching styles he has with Koscheck is pretty entertaining, good fights too.

I'll check back on this thread after I d/l 121. My mate no longer has foxtel so I can't watch the PPV, spewin!

Posted

No [censored] hey?! Wasn't expecting that kind of domination...

What a f*cking card though? Tito got his face smashed in, Sanchez is back in town and did you see Brendon Shaub? Jeez hes improved!

Shields lucky for the win.. no ground and pound, no striking in general.. boring.

Heavyweight division wide open! I think Dos Santos next challenger, then winner of Fat Country and Carwin next? At least a Carwin Dos Santos fight is possible. Bloody exciting stuff!

Posted

What a title fight that was. Ever seen 2 blokes that big in such a fast frenzy? Incredible.

I think Velasquez will be champion for a very long time. I reckon Dos Santos is a chance because he a class boxer with power, but if he fails I don't see much depth in the heavyweight division, certainly not at Cain's standard.

Shaub looked very good, Gonzaga not so good.

Shaub will fight Frank Mir next. Will be good.

I think Lesnar v Carwin 2 could be on the cards sooner rather than later after this result.

Sanchez snapped back to life, looked real good. So did Paulo in the first, then was overwhelmed. Great fight.

Matt Hammill is pretty inspirational, will be interesting to see if the movie about him is any good.

Tito blamed his surgery as usual. Of course you'll have neck problems carrying around a head that [censored] huge.

Totally agree about Shields, boring as hell, he was lucky Kampmann's submission attempts were horrible.

That title fight though was just something else. Brock was classy in defeat too I thought.

Can't wait for Rampage v Machida and Rashad v Shogun.

And give Chuck another party with Tito!

Posted

Yep, Lesnar was classy in defeat, and he was classy in victory against Carwin. He changed since he got sick, it made him humble.

It's funny because I thought Brock would be sitting ontop of the heavyweight tree for a while too, then he got owned like that!

Whoever takes Valasquez down is going to have to be well rounded. Carwin/Dos Santos have a great punchers chance, but not that much else to take to him. I actually think if fat Country gets a crack he could do alot better than people think. He has cardio as deceptive as it seems. Mir also has the game to take Valasquez out but he would have to put in a better effort than he did against Cro cop (even though he won). He looked great against Kongo- tore him apart in stand up. Beat Cro Cop in stand up only (even though Cro cop is done).. Still some life in the heavyweights.

Cant wait for Rampage v Machida. I'm tipping Machida. Love Rampage but Machida is class, he should bounce back. Sotiropolous on that card too. He should beat Lauzon and get closser to a title shot... which may coincide with another UFC downunder (they are coming here again, did you go?)

Just done a bit of future gazing... check this out;

UFC 126.. bouts being worked on;

A. Silva Vs Belfort (finally!!)

Jon Jones Vs Bader (epic)

Griffin Vs Franklin

Florian Vs Dunham

Never heard anything about a Hamill movie.. that would be weird seeing as he still competes wouldn't it?

Posted (edited)

I think the Hammill movie is about his life, he's not in it, someone's playing him.

About being deaf and college wrestling champion and making it to the UFC.

Did not go to Sydney, I wish.

You know it's not legal in Melbourne? That's where they want it next time they come but need to get through legal tape. I believe Sotiropoulos is the UFC's spokesman down here trying to get the go ahead.

They say the next one will most likely be in Sydney because of this BS, but will keep working on it.

I think Machida will win too, by decision. But I'll go for Rampage.

Jones and Bader will be sick. If he walks through Bader like he has everyone else you may as well start engraving his name now.

Silva will never lose.

I love KenFlo, class and elbows. Hope to see him hold a title if Sots doesn't.

Lauzon is in awesome form, can't wait for that fight, George has his work cut out, both in great form.

Edited for iPhone retardedness.

The red tape will be eventually cut.

Hell, we have everything else down here being the sporting capital.

We'd be a laughing stock if the world were to know how popular we were by having UFC illegal.

It's probably the one and only thing Sydney has over Melbourne. UFC - who would have thought !

Posted

Yeah we'll get it eventually. Although I'm sure we already have MMA events in Melbourne, there's one up in Shepparton this weekend. I remember reading that it's the CAGE that is the legality stopping the UFC in Melbourne, if that's true, how ridiculous.

I'll have to look it all up again, but I'm sure it was something along those lines.

In better news, the WEC has folded into the UFC.

There'll now be feather and bantam weight divisions. Some great little blokes can now strut their stuff on the big stage, especially Aldo and Faber.

I'm sure we will wake up to our senses- being "the sporting capital of the world" and all.. It's ashame that is't considered such a barbaric sport by the pollies, i'm sure a bit of re education will set them straight, UFC is no more dangerous than Aussie rules football- as crazy as that sounds. It's professional and expertly adjudicated. We all know this anyway.

I missed Sydney, couldn't get tickets!! I have heard if you sign up to become a member of the UFC (don't think it costs very much at all) you get access to tickets a day before the general public, or something like that. I think the details are somewhere on the UFC site when you arrange to purchase tickets or something. Will have to look into that, as if anyone wants tickets to the next UFC they will sell bloody quick. And I'll be [censored] if I miss this one!!

They are considering doing an Ultimate fighter series down here aswell ffs.. they are taking that global!! This sport is about to skyrocket here... Anyone gonna try out??

Try out !? Ah, I think I'm past that stage. Certianly fit enough to watch it though. I'm keen on most sports, contests that involve physically competing.

I went to the sydney u.f.c and saw the weigh-ins and Q&A with Dana White, it was probably the best sporting event i have ever been to. we got the $300 tickets about 25 rows from the ring, next year i'm coughing up for ringside.

I watched the whole Q&A, did you ask any questions?

It's pretty amazing, Dana will answer anything, if he doesn't have the answer he asks someone to find it.

na, didn't really have much to ask him. i thought it was great the way he answered with such honesty, and if he didn't like an idea that a fan put to him he would let them know rather than humour them. i think he does a brilliant job with the match-ups he puts on and the way he goes about running the show in general, he's definately got a touch of arrogance, but first and foremost his main aim is to please the fans.

Anyone watch 123?

We'll skip 122 because it sucked balls.

Spoiler alert! Don't scroll down if you haven't watched 123.

UFC 127 will be in Sydney, Acer Arena Feb 27th.

BJ Penn vs John Fitch

George Sitiropoulos vs Dennis Siver

The Prodigy is back! Destroyed that jerk Matt Hughes in devistating fashion. What a freak. I hope he stays at 170, looked bored at 155 and fed up with cutting weight (no pun intended).

Aussie George is the real deal, Lauzon gassed trying to push the pace AND avoid George taking him down. Great fight. George should beat Siver if he gets it to the ground = title shot.

I'm glad Rampage won, not sure he actually did, but Machida deserved to lose, it's the UFC, not dodgeball. Dumb thing is, when Machida does engage he's devastating, so why not just fight?

Other fights were great too, Davis and Foster looked excellent.

One of the better recent UFC events.

Can't wait to see BJ live.

Hey mate,

meant to check if you watched. agree with eveything you've said there including Machida vs Rampage....why did Rampage think he got his a$$ kicked??? Rampage won that fight, Machida had one flurry for the fight and not much else. very impressed with George, Lauzon is a real good fighter and he beat him hands down. I've been a big B.J fan ever since he smashed Karl Uno in about 5 seconds many years ago, and how he lost to Frankie Edgar once let alone twice is beyond me. he looked angry, the way he should have looked against Edgar. As a side note i like the look of Maiguel "big rig" Falcao from brazil, even though it wasn't the greatest fight (an awkward opponent) his hands look unbelievable!

Yeah I like the look of Falcao too, reminds me of Thiago Alves a bit.

Looked a bit tentative, maybe first UFC nerves, but when he threw he looked great, that first combo was crazy.

He was also totally ripped off - not sure if you noticed, but at the end of round 1 when he had the rear naked sunk in, the sticks clap at 10 seconds, then the horn sounds 2 seconds later. What's up with that? Harris would have tapped or passed out in that lost 8 seconds.

And yeah, BJ losing to Edgar baffles me to this day. He just stood there doing not much.

I blame my avatar, I put BJ in it before the first Edgar fight, cursed him. Took him off after the second loss, then he floors Hughes.

Injuries to Wonna and Jurrah have coincided with my avatar too.

Sadly the curse doesn't work on people I don't like.

ahhh....didn't notice that, but it would also explain why he held on for a little too long.

in regards to your avatar, might i suggest Alan Didak?

Yeah saw it-

Falcao looked awesome. Very patient, lightning quick hands. Boring fight for one and a half rounds but Falcao's offence is unstopable. Harris got deregistered from the UFC after that fight too, btw.

F*ing pumped about UFC 127, BJ coming- anyone know what the deal is with ticket arrangements ie how to get them first and how many you can buy at the one time?

Sots will beat Siver but I hope to hell he doesn't stand with him. Siver took out Winner- who is lightning quick with good standup, Siver German kickboxing champion, but then again Sotiropolous hasn't been stopped yet. Can't wait for this!

Machida is a beautiful fighter, I could watch him go all day. He is very evasive- all part of a good defence. I can see how some people could get frustrated by this. I think the fight was close, and Machida probably should have won, but I was surprised by Rampage's reaction; I didn't think he 'got wooped'.. Machida killed him in the third, the first 2 rounds were pretty even, Rampage got a takedown in the first.. it can't be just because of that?

Rampage a classy man- suggesting rematch when he has no need to. Such a differencce between him and that Douch of a man Koscheck!

Edson Barboza with the leg kicks btw... I love seeing fights stopped by leg kicks!

PS- Jose Aldo forced out of 125 due to back problems... 127 debut anyone?

yes please.

why did Harris get de-registered? because he b!tched about the late choke hold?

If you wanna get first access to tickets you should join ufc fight club which costs about $35 and you get access to tickets one day before they go on sale. It's also the only way to go to the q&a with Dana White and the weigh-in.

Posted

btw i agree with you about the karate kid, but he does need to engage more. If every fighter only wanted to counter punch it would make for some pretty boring fights.

So you went to 110 did you? Awesome, tickets were 300?? Jeez... how did you go about purchasing your tickets? I checked out the UFC fight club and it says presale can only be bought for Canadian or US event..?? I signed up for the ticketmaster early list, whatever that is, and apparently Stubhub deal with UFC directly so i'm checking out their site also.

How was the view from 25 rows back? Did the cage obscure your view at all?

At the post fight press conference, Dana was ranting and non too pleased about Rampage's reaction. Said he clearly won 2 rounds to 1, and didn't understand why Rampage had his head down and claimed he got his arse whooped. Rampage was late and walked in during this dig, he calmly sat down and explained himself, said to pay no attention to what he said after the fight, he was smashed in the 3rd, took some hard hits and "he just landed a flurry, on my face" and because of that he forgot about what happened in the first 2 rounds and thought he lost. Still gave a lot of respect to Machida.

Dana said there would not be a rematch.
