Sir Why You Little 37,450 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 This club could be the league's biggest problem in the next year or so. Never agreed with their inclusion into the AFL as the supporter base was never going to be diverse enough. Another great Wayne Jackson move...he did so much!! http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tab...50/default.aspx
beelzebub 23,392 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 they'll merge....they'll fix themselves up.. The AFL has no real basketcases as far as introduced teams just as there's no tanking... Port will come out smelling a little better than Carrum Downs or Werribee and all will be fine.

Shall be interesting to see the outcome BB as over the last few years there has been a real identity crisis within those two clubs. Within south australia a lot of supporters have not felt comfortable barracking for one or either teams. Would be hard to barrack for those colours though, so i understand the dilema!!
w00dy 146 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 it was always a risk to have the 2nd SA team being Port Adelaide... while there was a ready made supporter base there, it would always alienate other football followers in SA.... could you imagine, if the AFL originated out of SANFL, and in Victoria everyone followed a 'Melbourne' team, how many football followers of the VFL would then embrace Collingwood being the 2nd side? not many I would think...
Straight Sets Simon 23,113 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I didn't realise the Power and Magpies were separate, they need a branding overhaul. EDIT: They need an overhaul of everything.
beelzebub 23,392 Posted November 3, 2009 Posted November 3, 2009 I must confess I always thought that Port..was Port. That is to say that the AFL team was an outcrop of the SANFL team. Only in reent times has it occured to me that this wasnt quite the case. Port is a basketcase ( and still they managed a Premiership ) They are indeed a parochial lot in SA. They do love their footy ( and good on them ) but there are distinct divides. There's been a bit of movement at the helm there. I suspect things will calm down some.

I agree a norward supporter would never barrack for, port, unless one of his relatives play for port, then again, it took chads farther a long time to even watch his sons play for port, so you can see how narrow minded south aussie are.
