MATCH REPORT 4 - rollo makes more enemies

Charlsey... probably best player over both games... complete player whether forward, back or in the middle...wins the hard ball and delivers well...plays at only one level all the time – excellent...

Dazzledavey36...our most-credentialed player, and showed it, unanimously voted winner of the “vinnie” for best player against the blues in the final...tough, hard-running mid-fielder, team player and all-round great bloke...(hails from the bush up rollo’s way, of course)...

Doggo... dirty day for doggo, veteran of these contests and past best-on-ground winner...team mix, numbers and game time meant he was most often where the ball was not...not a day for displaying the doggo skillsof plugging gaps in the team mix...don’t worry, mate, we still believe in you...after past glories, how could we not ??

Funky41...with others I will name, supplies the on-field leadership and off-field leadership we need to contest these forum games...a bloke who leads by example, not words...solid, reliable performer who can play most positions...one of our leaders and a valuable addition to our leadership group...

Grant...starred for us at FB against the pies, and then volunteered to play with his mates for the blues in the final, causing way too many headaches and heart murmers on the demon bench...a formidable and valuable player...

Greg...played against us for the pies, and against us for the blues, and performed really well...selectors have taken notice, mate...

Grimes4...first-time player...reliable and solid player who can play most positions...stood tall in the final...great first game for us...

Heater...FF extraordinaire...set up pies game for us, winning the “dannie”, then ran into a close-checking quality opponent in the final...a consistent key forward for us in every game he has played...

Junior...first-gamer...good player with great kicking skills...not sure if the coaches worked out where to play him to best advantage...hoping to see more of him...

Pringle...the hamstrings gave no problems and this veteran did a fantastic job in the mid-field, covering enormous distances to help out up forward and, particularly, down back...fearless, flawless performance from a player who we hope can keep on keeping on...handy to have a doctor in the team as well...

Scully to Watts...promising young player with good ball skills and no fear...did really well, especially in the final when confronted with opponents just as talented but with years of experience on him...left us wanting to see more...

Olly...mate of Scully to Watts, and the comments are about the same, except he seems more suited to a defensive role...good sense of where his opponent is at all times...

Supermercado...told us he could not play all that well, and set about proving himself wrong...important touches, especially in the final...will always be welcome to play “badly” for us...

Tassie Dee...from demonology, a valuable member of our leadership group, but a genuine on-field leader as well...one of those players that the ball seems to follow round...positions himself brilliantly to run through the lines...close to beating Heater for the “Dannie” and carried that form into the final...

The Russian...a day of two halves...a defender who was in the mix for the “Dannie” against the pies, marking and rebounding at will...came up against a quality opponent in the final, and time and rotations did not allow him to get his confidence back...like Doggo, I suspect, will always perform better when we have smaller benches...

The Stynes Factor...from demonology, nominated by Wolfmother as our best defender all day...marks when the mark is on, spoils when it’s not, and runs and runs and runs...plays extra well when we are getting beaten...we would not have won the final without this bloke...

Toot182...plays competitive sport, but only plays footy with us...fit and keen, runs all day...good positioning and finishing skills...in the mix for best on ground in both games...

Wolfmother...leadership is hard to define but easy to spot...wise has it, and Tassie Dee, funky41 and others, but wolf has it in spades...on the talkingcarlton summary of the game, it says they had us on toast until near the end, then we ‘powered on and won”...somebody brought about the change in momentum...

Wonnabeeri...first gamer, handy and popular player...great cheer went up when he kicked a great goal for us in the final...could be the team clown we have been looking for since Jeeeeeza hung up the boots...as with Junior, not sure if the coaches worked out where to play him to best advantage...

Tom1...mate of grimes4...rucked effectively in both games, changing with Tom2...good hand and foot skills...required player...

Tom2...from demonology, thinking and talented ruckman with good running skills and reads the play well...another in the mix for best player against the pies...great first game for us...

Deemitch...this whole lightning premiership idea started with an innocent-looking post from mitch – “forum footy soon?”...young veteran who started at age 12 or 13 and has not missed a game since...solid in the mid-field and creative up forward...

Scotty...prolific forward who has kicked more goals for us than any other player...close-checked in the final like Heater, but always a valuable player...

Haydo...from demonology, another candidate for team clown...turned up sober and booted two goals against the pies...knows how to play...

Mat...from demonology, refrained from beating up any umpires this time...volunteered to play for the pies and kicked their only goal against us...handy player in tough contests...

Steve...first gamer and solid performer when he made it onto the ground...tall but good ground skills...want to see more of him...

The rest...sorry, guys, and many apologies for missing you out of this summary...I think I have too much to do on game day...you know who you are and what you did...

People should feel free to disagree with me or add their own comments...

Thanks for the entertainment and congratulations on winning the first-ever forum footy lightning premiership...

Rollo. That was awesome.

Just reading that gets me excited to pull on the red and blue again soon. Love it.

im not looking forward to when rollo hangs up the boots... will be melbournefc darkest days...

they can hang them on my coffin, dazzle...

not planning on missing games until then...

Great work fellas, sounds like there's a bit of talent in the team and you're the envy of the other footy forums at the moment. Who'd have thought the MFC would have the largest batch of young people available to play for them - aren't we meant to have one of the lowest supporter bases among young people in the AFL?

And WJ, well done on the coaching record.

demon ruckle starred for us at full-back a few seasons ago...

it is my unhappy duty to report his recent untimely death...

respecting the memory of the bloke, that is all that will be posted on site...

people who want more information are invited to send a pm to Oxxx, who has all the details...

sad way to end this thread...

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
