Howdy,

My name is Sam and I'm using my hubbi's account to run this poll. Thanks Craig or Hell Bent as he's known on this space! :D

I work for a media agency and we are looking to develop an iphone application specifically so you can track your fav Melbourne Demon player/s.

The best ideas always come from the people, you guys... so i'm asking for your help... in return we can design and develop a super powerful iphone application with all your criteria in it! If all goes well, you can get the app from the app store - free or may have a small purchase price.

The application will be built specifically for your needs/wants so get creative and rack your brains....what do you really want to know from your fav player?

Is it latest stats? Daily news, approaching events, top tips, players thoughts of the day, a voting system where you can share your thoughts and ideas directly with them???

Let us know and we will do our best to integrate this.

Thanks a million to the Demonland crew for allowing us to run with this. Thanks to you in advance for participating.

High fives

Dont have an iphone, and dont want one.

Not many people have one.

I voted yes for everything.

Unfortunately I don't have an Iphone.

Not many people have one.

This is a joke surely?

I'd say two-thirds of my friends have them. Not saying that's representative, but to say not many people have them is stupid.

Cheers for your comments so far guys. iphone apps are ever increasing and becoming more popular by the second, it's a massive market. If you think about it, over 10 years ago hardly anyone had a website, and there were only 2 hosts..... now look where we are! It's called future thinking..and for the people that do have them, and use them everyday it's an added bonus, simply another way to connect with a person, brand, feature. In this case, it's another way to touch base iwth your fav player. It's 2009 guys!!! Stylus, thanks mate, I'm guessing you are under 45!! ;-)

a link to "your favourite player" is kinda creepy

would be better to link it up to the club of choice primarily, and then maybe ahve a section of it with updates from a selected player

Cheers brey9186, I totally get that. Great point! We are building it specifically to strengethen the players personal brand - the app will have links to the club updates too. It will also have a feed from twitter. So instead of going to heaps of different sites - blog, forum, twitter, facebook fan page etc..it will all be intergrated into one! I totally get it's not for everyone, yet you have the option of choice here. In answer to your q Clint, it's there when you need it. We are becoming more and more connected thanks to the internet. Some people hate change and will slam this yet the people that want to feel part of their team/club will embrace this. Just like you are doing here!

Sounds like it could be a bit of fun. It's something I think the club might want to hear about too. They might have some ideas about how best to design and make use of the technology that will best promote the club.

But I don't have an iphone and don't know anyone who does, so it's all a bit lost on me. (And no, I'm not old. I'm just simple)

I am on my iphone now and I don't think I would use an app that follows a specific player because I am intereted in the team news not just the player. For me to use an app it would need to have a point of distinction from the other afl apps. The only thing you mentioned that I would find slightly interesting would be the video part. Other than that the oher afl apps do everything I want.

That said I would probably pay $2 for an app that had the word demon or Melbourne in it just because I can.

EDIT: As it happens I have 2 afl apps: "AssieRules" which is good for live scores and stats, but annoys me because I can't get the fixture for games beyond the next week. And "Aussie...LIVE" but i'm not sure that is the full name, it is good for the fixture but is a bit slow for scores. AssuiRules is my preference, but it does get jammed up at times, so if you can write one that is similar but works all the time then I would use it.

Einstien, thanks for the comment...and just ignore my last sentence in being old! ekk..... It's totally ok not ot have one, yet we really see this as a huge market in the next few years! I have noted your suggestions and we will be apporaching the club very soon, once we have the knowledge from you guys ;-)

Steve, thanks for participating, maybe your answers may change in the next few years...or maybe not! ;-)

thevil1 - sweet! Thanks a million!

Jackattack - one of the most useful comments we have had so far! All points taken onboard. I really appreciate your time here!

Cheers

Sam

I think you'll all find that iPhones are the way forward.

They might not be completely mainstream right now, but they are with the trendies and they will very soon become as ubiquitous as the iPod.

It seems every week i have another friend raving for a few days about how exciting and special it is to have one. Then they realise they're just the next person to join the iPhone army and they shut up.

Surely it won't be long before I succumb...

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.
