new players this year and last

Featured Replies

The Age says[wrongly] that Melbourne [before this week] have played 4 newplayers this year. I think the number is 6 excluding Meesen who'd played a couple in Adelaide I believe.

But The Age also says that we played 6 new players in 2008, and a bunch of us can only get to 5--can anyone assist in identifying the 6 last year. And is 6 plus Meesen correct this year?

Last years would be - Grimes, Maric, Morton, Wonaeamirri, Martin, Valenti

This year's - Cheney, Jetta, Jurrah, Bennell, Watts, Spencer, Meesen

Debut 2009 -

Jetta, Bennell, Watts, Jurrah, Spencer, Cheney,

(Not counting Meesen)

Debut 2008 -

Grimes, Morton, Maric, Weetra, Martin, Valenti, Wonaeamirri.

I'd reckon Weetra is the one you're missing from 08.

And to think... the 2010 debut list, given the high picks from 2008 draft who aren't likely to come in this year and the various picks from 2009 draft, will probably be just a big and perhaps even better.

If they mean first year players as oppose to just debutants, I believe that would be correct.

2008 - Morton, Wonaeamirri, Maric, Grimes, Valenti, Martin

2009 - Watts, Jurrah, Bennell, Jetta (with Cheney, Spencer being on the list last year)

  • GAMEDAY: Brisbane

It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG after a dismal performance in Gather Round to face the reigning dual Premiers Brisbane. What do expect to see from the Dees today?

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
