New Drafting System

Featured Replies

2. Base the drafting order as at round 14 of the ladder. This way tanking will be eliminated with 8 rounds to go.

This will create problems too. Such as Fremantle in 2006, who were 10th in Round 13, yet won every match for the rest of the year to finish top 4 and make the preliminary finals.

The draft system would work better without the priority pick. If there wasn't the chance of us getting picks 1 and 2 this year, would we all be happy with less than 5 wins?

Either do away with the PP altogether or make it a "weighted" lottery.

R22====Lottery tickets===% chance of PP

Finish

16=======8 ======== 22%

15=======7 ======== 19%

14======= 6 ========17%

13=======5 ========14%

12=======4 ========11%

11======= 3 ========= 8%

10======= 2 ========= 6%

9======== 1==========3%

The only way to remove/reduce the smear of tanking is to reduce/ remove the incentive for underperforming (win less than 4.5 games in a year).

I'd like that if it was for the #1 pick (as opposed to Priority pick).

Personally I think priority picks are a load of crap and bad for the game because of what teams do to get them

The idea that having a lottery would eradicate tanking is a nonsense. The National Basketball Association introduced the lottery in 1985 and teams still shut down players and played strange lineups to give themselves as many chances as possible to win the lottery. Certain teams and coaches are famous for recognizing a failed season early and tanking.

Get rid of the Priority Pick, introduce Free Agency and put a cap on coaching department spending.

    It's Game Day and the Demons return to the MCG after a dismal performance in Gather Round to face the reigning dual Premiers Brisbane. What do expect to see from the Dees today?

    They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
