Im not really too sure why some think this an irrelevent exercise or more the point one of no merit.

As I read it the question is..who on thelist would you think participatory in a premiership team.

It probably has a time window of the next 4-8 years.. but its open to the reader.

I dont see this as hard..nor teh idea of a yes and no and too simplistic, in fact its really a yes /no situation otherwise you could add in an infinitum of qualifiers.

DO I see the following as part of a Premiership team? I will use only one conditional alternative.. i.e where insufficent is known/seen but relying on extrapolating what we can reasonably summise...and that will result in a "possible"

Bail Possile

Bartram No

Bate No

Bell No

Bennell Yes

Blease Possible

Bruce No

Buckley No

Cheney Yes

Davey yes

Dunn No

Frawley Yes

Garland Yes

Green Possile ( age might stop )

Grimes Yes

Jamar No

Jetta Yes

Johnson No

Jones Yes

Jurrah Possible

Maric Yes

Martin Yes

McDonald No

McLean Yes

McNamara Possible

Meesen No

Miller No

Moloney Yes

Morton Yes

Newton No

Petterd Yes

Rivers No

Robertson No

Strauss Possible

Sylvia No

Warnock Yes

Watts Yes

Wheatley No

Whelan No

Wonaeamirri Yes

There are as another alludes .."gaps" on Baileys preferred starting team..these will be filled with whom ever we can draft or trade for over the next 2-3 years.

I would not expect a serious tilt for 4 years.. but see us as an entirely resaonable prospect then..REALLY !! :)

I noticed you have Rivers down as a No? Any reason for that inparticular? He's still relatively young.

I ...and I think others to harbour this dark fear, that jared just wont last the distance. Id prefer that he did but some think inside keeps gnawing away at me and I cant bring myslef to believe that he will e in Melbourne colours in 3-4 years time. Its not on talent or application that I fear he wont be there...I just dont think his body will let him. Happily proven wrong on this one though :)

Fair enough given his run over the last few years. Fingers crossed that he finally has his body right and can be the sgt of a premiership winning defence along with Martin, Garland, Frawley, Warnock & Bennell.

I think that more than half a dozen possies in any power (cup-tiliting ) Demon team will be filled by those not on our list at present. So thats more than likely 11-12 of those running around at present..plus 5-6 of up and comers already on list but vastly improved and developed and add in previous mentione unknowns.

I like Bub's method. As well as adding "possible" as an alternative, I'm going to use "probable" in situations where we've not seen enough of the player to say definitively, but where the signs are encouraging.

Bail Possile

Bartram No

Bate Possible (but not looking good)

Bell No

Bennell Yes

Blease Probable

Bruce No

Buckley Possible (however unlikely)

Cheney Yes

Davey Yes

Dunn No

Frawley Yes

Garland Yes

Green Possible

Grimes Probable

Jamar No

Jetta Yes

Johnson No

Jones Yes

Jurrah Possible

Maric Yes

Martin Probable

McDonald No

McLean Yes

McNamara Possible

Meesen Possible (as a second string ruckman)

Miller Yes (but not as a KPP)

Moloney Yes

Morton Yes

Newton No

Petterd Yes

Rivers Yes

Robertson No

Strauss Probable

Sylvia Yes

Valenti No

Warnock Possible

Watts Probable

Wheatley No

Whelan No

Wonaeamirri Yes

So the general answer is maybe?

Because how the hell would we actually know.

I guess we'll find out soon enough!!!

Maybe this is what Dean has in mind, maybe its not but it seems more than a coincidence that he is suddenly moving toward youth. With the whisper that Mcnamara may play on the weekend is this the case? Seems there are only a few spaces to fill here for what might be a good team going forward.

Thoughts please

A couple of priority draft pick this year and I think we have something to work with. Before I get shouted down about draft picks, We can't rest our forward line on one kid.

Leave Young Jared alone - The Bod's finally holding up just fine.

Not only will he be part of our future success he's every chance to be Captain.

& while we are at it whats with the NO on Meeson?

Despite his so called No idea status @ Sandy & Casey he has looked quite capable in The Red & Blue in his two starts.

Early days yes but I don't think we can put the line through him just yet.

can only hope youre right with Jared.. i'll retain my right to watch until convinced.

Meesen ? well if we are to be contenders in 4 or so years we need a league leading ruck.. Meesen might be it.. and I might win tattsloto.

A capable ruck wont cut it..we wil have I suggest have moved on to another..ut theyre just my thoughts ;)

I see what your saying. All the recent premiers have had someone decent rucking for them. Maybe at seasons end Melbourne need to make it their mission to get someone like Vickery from Richmond. Say for example Sylvia and pick 18 in exchange. hehe. Very early I know, but we can always dream.

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. 2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence.
