Just read a thread with some posts referring to the Bulldogs forward line.

Saw the game Sunday night against Fremantle. I must say prior to the season I thought they might plateau this season or at least lose some ground on Geelong and Hawthorn.

But what I saw of them in the last quarter looks promising for them. Key ingredients in improved Josh Hill, Will Minson, Shaun Higgins and even a Jarrad Grant will add further dimensions and options to Eade's forward line which already consists of Hahn, Johnson, Akermanis, Giansiracusa.

Goals will come from their midfield in Cooney, an ever determined Griffen (Brownlow material), Boyd (keeps taking steps), and rotations.

The next step I believe will come from Josh Hill and Jarrad Grant who I saw a bit of in the NAB Cup. Josh Hill - I think the penny has dropped with him. Although he did shine in Round 1 last year and did stuff all after that. He should be, or he would want to be more consistent than last year.

Whilst in the end the Bulldogs were beaten by Geelong in the Preliminary Final last season. It was clear then an improvement in the forward structure was required. I think they have taken some steps over summer in this department, Wayne Campbell included. His name is being spruiked about a little down at Tigerland, which Caroline Wilson also mentioned on Footy Classified last night.

With respect to our Demons forward line, we could do no worse than look at how the Bulldogs are going about adding so many strings to their bow in their development of their forward structure.

They are a good side the Dogs-But the leg speed will slow down later in the season. The still rely on smaller forwards. Round 15 16 they will start to hurt.

They have in the last few years, I think we might see the Dogs progress into the height department this year up forward. Josh Hill has a great leap on him. Keep an eye on his form throughout this year.

regardles of whether they have a great run in the finals, beat geelong and hawthorn or crash out mid season, they are a number of things the bulldogs do that we should look at.

developing mids into goal kicking midfielders, and looking at the forward structure they use when they have a short forward line should be priorities for us.

even if watts and jurrah come on in the future, if we can have a forward set up that operates without them, and a midfield that pushes forward to score we will be better set, both now and then.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbnae

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
