Brownlow: Has this ever happened before?

Featured Replies

The total votes polled by Melbourne players at this year's Brownlow was the same as the winner - 24 votes. It was also the same as the number of votes polled by ex-Melbourne players -

Scott Thompson (Ad) 15

Jeff Farmer (Fr) 2

Nick Gill (Ad) 2

Travis Johnstone (Br) 2

Darren Jolly (Sy) 2

Troy Simmonds (Ri) 1

Something like this might have happened to the Bulldogs who used to give away players who went on to win Brownlows but I can't recall it happening at Melbourne.

surprised by winner, dont really rate cooney that high, but good he beat simon black , and bartel was m.i.a

Interesting stuff WJ. Out of interest, does anyone know how many votes Richmond got last year? For comparison with our 24, which I thought was a decent amount considering our season (to put it another way, we averaged 8 votes a win...)

I don't think there's a less relevant award in football.

It's awarded by the umpires FCS! And none of us rate them at all.

I remember when Jimmy won it - good for him, but really, quite an empty feeling.

The only thing that matters is a flag.

The only satisfaction this year...that squib harvey didn't score it.

Robo for Colman medal next year and the square will be complete.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbnae

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
