A string of wins!

What's going on with Melbourne assistant coach Sean Wellman? He's saying that the Demons are not only desperate to post a victory over Fremantle today but he wants us to put together a string of wins - DEES AIM FOR STRING OF WINS.

Hasn't he heard of the time honoured football adage of taking things one week at a time?

PS: Cop the photo that goes with the article. The players are wearing the pooey silver gear that we have to thankfully only wear one or two times ever again.

Well I'd love us to string some wins together, but an analysis of the draw puts it into better perspective, we're playing 2 teams in the Top 8 the next two weeks!

Here's our run home, vs West Coast and Freos:

Next week:

Melb v Roos (8th)

WCE v Saints (7th)

Port(13th) v Freo

Rnd 18:

Bombres(12th) vs Melb

Freo v WCE

Rnd 19:

Melb v Geel (1st)

Sydney (4th) v Fre

WCE v Bombres (12th)

Rnd 20:

Melb v WCE

Freo v Saints (7th)

Rnd 21:

Rich (10th) v Freo

Port (13th) v Melb

WCE v Dawks (3rd)

Rnd 22:

Geel(1st) v WCE

Freo v Pies (5th)

Melb v Tigers (10th)

Realistically, I see us winning today, and maybe against an undermanned Bombers and the awful Eagles.

Thats 3 maybe 5 wins, I'd settle for 4 to keep our priority pick

i'll be genuinely unhappy if we win 5 games this year.

a priority pick would be just reward for the terrible season we'v had. It could really kick start our rebuild.

i don't mind if we finish 14th, just dont win 5 games.

If we get over Freo today, there is a chance based on who we play that we could end up wining 5 games. A loss today would make it hard.

A bunch of School girls can beat West Coast, they clearly are not interested, Port seem to be looking at next season, and Freo are plain Rubish. Roos, Dons and Tigers are winnable game,s that said those 3 teams will be pushing for the last few spot in the 8, so they may be hard to knock off.

I can easily see us winning 3 of the next 7, I just hope we only pull off 2 wins.

We will beat WC< they are a joke.

As will I.

Should be okay now, too.

By the sounds of the reaction to the Fremantle loss, the team should be trying to string together 5 or 6 effective possessions. Worry about the wins when that´s sorted out!!! ;)

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
