PSD Pick #1

Although in a sense it pains me to say it, finishing last is becoming more and more of a reality as the rounds go by. If we do finish last does anybody know the list of possible high profile players out of contract come seasons end? We would be able to negotiate an excellent trade with PSD #1 in hand.

Can we not wait until the end of the season for these threads?

Even in trade week they are pointless, but at least relevant.

Even if you were told, every player would still have 10 weeks to sign a contract

Ben Cousins. Thread over ;)

Yep, i agree. Ben Cousins...

where we are at in our development, getting Ben Cousin would be idiotic. he's over 30 yrs old, therefore, do NOT get him

Out aims should be Robbie Warnock. If we could get someone like Mitch Thorp to nominate that would be genius.

He can nominate for both drafts....

The national draft you can't put a price on your head.... but a club could easily sign a new contract in rd 1 which avoids this....

As for the 1PSD you wouldn't use it on cousins... most won't want him so you could have two spots on the list and use pick 10.

and even though he is his 30 he would be great for a couple of years to teach the younger midfielders even to put melbourne in the media.... even bad press has melbourne in the press

I would rather have cousin on the list than someone like weetra at pick 76

Id be surprised if we didn't get Robbie Warnock with this pick. He has the chance to go home, play with his brother and become the no1 ruckman at the club all things he will never be able to do at Freo.

I'm almost in utter shock that I completely agree with you.

That said, it's way too early to know the candidates. There could well be some tasty surprises at year's end.

ben " i love eccys" cousins

he can snort as much cocaine as he want as long as he is ripping it up on the field like he has done in many years!

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
