  1. Got to training late this morning.

    Petty was walking off to the rooms early;

    didnt sight Lever, nor Angus, Viney or Lewis;

    competitive drills where they had to clear the ball from a stoppage and get the ball to an outside runner who would deliver a pass to the leading forward coming out of the goal square, closely checked by a defender. Pruess vs May for much of the drill. Does that mean anything?

    May trained strongly, Oscar B was impressive in a contested drill where you had to work the ball through heavy traffic, get the ball to a coach and then try to smother his kick. Got the smother in everytime.

    While the key backs practiced punching high ball kicked into Rawlings with a pad on his back, the others did a session of goal kicking. It seemed to be just a free for all of set shots and snaps, no inkling of any coach working on set shot technique! I haven’t seen anyone working with our key forwards on technique and routine etc. must be old school. I watch Weid out 2 ones straight through from 45 dead in front, no issues there at practice but game day....

    and watching the key backs in the punching drill there was no emphasis on punching the ball to the boundary side on the contest. They got complimented whether they punched it inboard or straight ahead...again I must be old school, (where is Anthony Ingerson these days)?

    That was about it for observations.

  2. Anyone know if we have engaged a specialist goal kicking coach yet? You know someone who might be able to improve technique and develop routines (that allow players to replicate that technique in all circumstances)for set shots! Goal kicking has cost us 3 games this season.

    Petracca is a classic case study, his ball drop on a set shot inside 45m can do anything with him often spinning the ball in his hands just prior, to stay loose I suppose?

    He only had 6 possessions last week. This week he kicked a couple but it's what he misses and doesn't do that irks me. He doesn't go when it's his turn. Gee compare him to Viney or Hunt who get clobbered. I'd trade or delist him he is 2 flakey

    In fact I'd get rid of JKH 2 he gets very nervous when he thinks contact is coming his way. Although strangely he loves 2 tackle. OMac either is tried as a forward or goes in2 the gym he gets ragdolled far 2 much.

    JKH first game this year after extended injury, love your empathySam.

    I don’t like player bashing but he is the definition of a liability.

    Some of his defensive efforts on Jenkins were woeful.

    Had 2.3 kicked on him, yes that was the difference, NOT.

    Oscar had a goal kicked on him in the most critical part of the game when he was laying a full tackle on Jenkins. Only Oscar

    Jenkins is big unit but I am sure you would have brought him down. We lost it in front of our own goal.

    Delist Oscar McDonald and Jeff Garlett now.

    Oscar had 2 goals kicked on him, not a great game but really. We lost it up forward, set shots missed, Max, Hunt, Smith, Weid, then dropped chest marks, Jeffy, the list goes on. The Crows had half the opportunities but nailed most of them. If you can’t finish you can’t win, it is that simple.

  7. Scrapping the barrel here I fear. Neither Oscar or Harrison have done enough consistently at VFL level to warrant a call up. But these are desperate times so let’s hope they put in blinders or at least contribute.

    I only saw short snipets but what i did see looked a little like a version of the old Clarkson cluster but with extra numbers behind the ball.  The zone starting more around mid field and behind rather than most of the field under the 2008 version.

    Snuffed out the ability of GWS sling shotting off HB and easily hitting up leading targets as in recent weeks.

    When the Hawks got it they then switched to possession/momentum mode with accurate kicking across HB on switch etc.  At one stage late in the last quarter they had racked up 97 marks just for that quarter!

    Strangulation of GWS possession.  Insane control of possession when they had it.  Mind you the GWS pressure or willingness too close up on an opponentn when Hawk's had possession game going looked pretty ordinary from where i was sitting.

    My wife, a hawks supporter attended the match and said they refused to chase or tackle hard enough, allowing the Hawks to possess the ball. They were looking for the easy ball and made no attempt to change their game plan. Thought they would just walk away with an easy win. Hard to know where the Giants are at.
