I thought Lockhart was really good tonight, don't nderstand the hate

Agree I like the way Lockhart is going about it. Yes he makes mistakes but he takes the game on and the the way he moves sets up attacking counter attacks. The best thing is he seems to be getting better with every game and I hope he retains his willingness to attack.

  2. With only a four day break the mandatory changes might be the newbies Jackson and Pickett, based not on form but on fitness and endurance. Bring in TMac and one of Sparrow or Jordan. Jetta might be up for a spell too, took a couple of hits tonight, so maybe Rivers comes in.

Goal Review System - Cost us dearly.

Yeah, we made a lot of mistakes and so did they but we were out and away when Lever took that mark.

Surely that review takes place while the game goes on and if it's not a mark then they bring it back...

Yes that hurt and someone has said it was the field umpire who called for the review, not the goalie! Is that true, if so it’s criminal. I will have to watch the replay tomorrow when I have calmed down. So many squandered opportunities with missed set shots and then a number of [censored] umpiring decisions, I need to review again to understand.

  4. We aren’t far off the mark but if you miss 6 set shots from 30 to 40m and within the 30 degree arc each side of the goal was it? Just not going to win games with that lack of accuracy. The same inaccuracies cost us 3 or 4 games last year, one of them was against Brisbane by the way, how do we fix this? It is so frustrating, key forwards should be able to kick straight.

Double the number of hit outs but they lead the clearances by 27 to 19 at 3/4 time. That’s where we’re getting beaten.

Unfortunately for us that is where we win or lose. If we don’t dominate the midfield and especially the clearances we struggle as we don’t have dominant forwards or great rebounding halfbacks.

We’ve kicked ourselves out of the game, every one of Weids kicks were very gettable. Bennell should’ve nailed his. We kick half of those and it’s a goal in it.

Our own worst enemies, hard to watch when that happens.

Gerrard Healy is one of the most insufferable people to listen to, I could list a dozen examples but it’s just constant.

We did the same last year at the Gabba when we missed 4 or 5 set shots and let Hipwood off the leash for 15 minutes for 4 goals.

Brisbane ruck grabs it in the ruck, takes on a player, tackled, no clean disposal. Play on.

Jetta has his head ripped off, gets a handball off, "Holding the ball".

Healey: "And Jetta ducks his head again."

    I'm done.

Nearly threw the iPad on that non decision. FFS.

Just watching Clarko’s presser and I’m stunned that he opened by saying he was pleased with his players’ endeavour. He emphasized it again a couple of minutes later.

Sorry, but there were a few players in brown and gold who showed very little endeavour at all.

Also had a go at the umpires. Poor form when you lose the way Hawthorn did today.

Probably second guessing his President inevitably blundering into the media in the next 24 hours, shooting his mouth off about this effort not being what Hawthorn is about, blah, blah, you know the spiel!

  9. Can’t believe a coaching panel can’t work out a role for a 198cm, reasonably agile player with a tank somewhere in our game plan. Maybe he is just instructed to keep running the lines along the wing to be an option like Langdon. He doesn’t have Langdon’s evasiveness but he is a better kick and would dominate overhead on the wing. Worth another chance.

Well the ins have mostly all been covered in demonland speculation

Smith is a surprise but I can’t see him getting a gig this week

I would settle for just Tomlinson onto a wing for AVB. Jackson stays in but takes a break for the next match on Thursday and TMac comes in. I can’t see first year players being able to front up every 4 days! There needs to be revolving selection of a group of younger players over the next 4 or 5 weeks.

Hawks should have had Frost before Sicily.  Clarko favourite.  Sam had a really good game for them I thought. If any of those muppets got a vote, it should have been Frosty.

Yes interesting can’t be sure watching on telly but I thought Frosty did well. Sicily was OK but did get beaten outright a few times. Frost took a number of intercept marks and kicked aggressively, forward  to a position. Not sideways or back. I would have thrown a vote to Frost before Sicily.

Disposal efficiency is not a good state mate. Has no context around it and there's certain circumstances where you can turn it over but it be counted as an 'effective disposal'. At least with clangers it's straight up.

Not sure I'd be praising a bloke too much for putting in a second effort to clean up his own mistakes. Bit of a nil all draw I would think.

I didn't say he was poor, I said some of his kicks were poor. I also made it clear I wouldn't be dropping him.

Doesn't have to be all as black and white as you're trying to make it. He cost us the first goal, he absolutely fudged some kicks, didn't get a ton of it, BUT he stayed outside the contest, used space, the score involvements is a great sign and if he just cleans up the kicks and manages to concentrate for 100% of his game time then we are a MUCH better midfield with him there.

My earlier post following my review of a replay of the game with Gus in mind where I saw one mis directed kick to a Hawk and one mis kick worm burner that got to Max anyway. That is not fudging kicks all over the place. Let’s get things in perspective. Gus is playing a subsidiary role, with limited game time and he still has to learn, he is getting there I think.

Yeah, agreed. He kicked it terribly but was still contributing in other ways. My comment was more about the inability of some to critique an individual player's performance without being influenced by the team result.

I watched a replay yesterday and kept an eye on Gus. As far as I saw it on TV he mis kicked a worm burner in the first qtr that still got to Max and in the third sent off a bullet pass that went straight to a Hawk. That is 2 miskicks and apart from that he had 2 poor handballs under pressure and let 2 overhead Marking opportunities slip through his hands, one was just too high, the other he should have held. In between there was the bulletin pass onto the Weids chest and a couple of great handballs to advantage under pressure. Not a great game by Gus but he didn’t butcher the ball all game as some think. He played his role, applying plenty of pressure on the opposition.

Like others I’d really like to see Tom fight his way back in. LJ played well and looks like he could pull out a cracker of a game at some stage (couple of his marks still aren’t quite sticking), Tom wasn’t in good form prior to his eye injury so I’d like to see them make him play at least one strong game in a scratch match to force his way.

    No change for me.

How do you fight your way back in? Are they playing scrimmage matches?

English is the [censored] target of Bruce Mc so far...

To be fair English’s tap work looks top notch and much better targeted than Max. Let’s see the second half though.

I love Jones for what he has given over the past decade, but if he isn’t centre square material any more where does he play? He struggles to nail down another spot.

Jones has played what 280 games I think he may have an idea how to play other positions. We need more on field leadership I hope he can provide some of that up forward.

Hawks have named Ceglar in their starting 22 but "AFL.com.au understands Ceglar – who has led the ruck for the Hawks this season – broke his toe early in last week's loss to Collingwood and will miss at least one week"Ceglar's broken toe.

Clarkson playing mind games!  Either Ceglar's injury report was a furphy or a late change coming up!

We should thrash their team.  They are old or have players with recent injury issues.

They played short kick/mark, ring-a-ring-a-rosey in their back 50 last week like Cats vs us.  But unlike Geelong they didn't try to attack because they can't run/chase.  Too slow!

And do they have any recognised forwards other than Gunston?

Big question is will they come out all guns blazing after the blowtorch they received this week?

If we show last weeks composure and move the ball quickly we will win.  We have a much better team.

But they have a very very good tactical coach and that could make the difference on game day. The ground doesn’t suit their game style so it will be interesting to see how this match pans out.

Not so silly does he have a tank?

I read somewhere that Alan Richardson thought Smith had elite athletic endurance, as good as he had seen in AFL! He has the speed and tank but does he know how to play that position, can he learn it? Who knows?
