Check this out, Hardwick’s response to criticism of tom lynch by David Schwarz

    https://wwos.nine.com.au/afl/tom-lynch-drama-gets-personal-as-richmond-coach-damien-hardwick-hits-back-at-david-schwarz-criticism/34108234-50cb-4e74-a9f0-e0e1886c4c3d

I’ve held Hardwick in some esteem for his efforts with the tigers, but these remarks display, at the end of the day, a fragile ego and a nasty streak.
Smugly sniggering at a football player showing emotion. Great message for the kids d***head.

Where’s the love gone Dimma? Dr Jekyll turns out to be Mr Hyde!

My recollection was that when big man Wallis punched 18yr old Brad Green it was Hardwick that was also holding Green too

Pretty ****house comments by dimma but clearly a deflecting tactic away from that mercenary lynch now also a grub player

the hit by long looked even more terrible than I remember it

3 of the four weeks served in preseason ... i forgot that - what a [censored] joke... even back then

Yes my wife has said it was Dimma holding Green when he was assaulted from something she heard on radio. She is not Melbourne. If this is true I hope our Melbourne media people go to town on this despicable act. Imagine throwing barbs about the 2000 final knowing you held a first year player so he could be punched by a fellow thug. Yes I suppose after saying that maybe that is why Dimma is upset I mean compared to the weak, sniping [censored] he and his fellow players did under Sheedy, Lynch is an alter boy!

That is how Spargo was playing all of 2018, he had the second year blues last year, most don't rate him because of his height, it's a bias many have, and most are to stupid to realise they judge players on their height before they see if they can play. Some of the greats were rejected because of their height, example Tony Liberatore, diesel Williams, who were both past over and made to work the hard way.

I think many of us just noted his height or lack thereof and then looked for compensating attributes of agility, explosive pace, uncanny goal sense? I didn’t see these attributes last year. Not fast, couldn’t stick a tackle, not a great kick but a very reliable footy player, yes, but then where does he fit in? But this week it was 10 or so minutes of exceptional, opportunistic small forward play to snag 3 goals and set one up for Brayshaw. I admit that effort has changed my view of Spargo in that he may just have the footy IQ to make it as a small forward. Let’s hope so.

Totally agree re: Bennell. Until he's ready to put his body on the line, we're only adding a passenger.

I understand why he's be uncomfortable throwing himself around, chasing and tackling etc. but our game plan depends on effort from every single player on the field.

Bennell is an interesting case. I watched Ross Lyon and Lloyd on Footy Classifieds on Wednesday analysing Brad Hill’s recent poor form. Footage showed him pulling out of contests, not chasing, fumbling and just not getting the ball etc. It was damning stuff but Lyon’s response to Lloyd’s question, should he be dropped was that we know his skill set is not crash and bash but speed and ball use. Ross was adamant the coaching group has to work on strategies for the team to get the ball into his hands. Ross seemed to think that is a no brainer for a good coach. I couldn’t help thinking if we have a similar situation with Bennell. He is still developing confidence in his body and no he won’t be running into packs but should we get a few more games into him and develop strategies to get the ball to him. In a similar vein I thought in our early games we were not using Langdon enough, he was always in position as an option for the ball carrier but we kept banging it up the line to contests. But in the past 4 or 5 games our mids have realised he will always be an option wide if they are in trouble and he has been great for us retaining possession and resetting our inside50’s. The coaching group knows better where Bennell is at fitness wise and if he still has the weapons that made him a great player.

  5. One of the many plusses for the night was Puess I thought. What I loved was not that he smashed the ruck because he didn’t but he competed and took the odd mark and kicked the ball long to advantage. He showed some footy IQ which I thought he didn’t have. In the past he has mixed good stuff with bad stuff but today after a long layoff he seriously challenged Grundy I thought. Max can take an extra week if he needs it now.

  6. Love this guy but needs to check his stops. Slips over at crucial moments, that is his only downside. Otherwise he often attacks from back pocket to set up plays the opposition never saw coming.

  7. Great team effort tonight albeit against a banged up Pies unit who still had some great players, Sidebottom, Adams, Grundy et al. But looking at the game we had a few passengers so there is ample room for improvement on paper of course. Do we have better options for Tomlinson, Jones, TMac, AVB? Don’t change all but there are some options to include one or more of Hannan or OMac if the matchups are there.

Norf won the free kicks 19 vs 13 while losing by 10 goals.

2 good wins where we've run the game out really well.

Can we do it when we're playing the better sides and the pressure is really on?

Looking forward to the pies game now.

I love modern umpiring. Last week Max had a serial pest charging into him repeatedly off the contest but that’s OK. Tonight Harmes takes a Mark with an opposition player coming front on at him. He throws a a clenched fist at the players thigh to let him know he didn’t appreciate the attention but wait that is a free kick! A north player runs back with the flight of the ball and gets collected, not high but that again is a free? I could go on about the tackles that start correctly but the player ducks their head so an arm goes over their head and that is a high tackle, then you get Kossie running onto a loose ball only to be obviously retarded right in front of the umpire but that is play on. I no longer know what the rules of the game are.

We ran into the two worst teams in the comp at the perfect time....smacked them off the park and hopefully that gives the boys confidence to go on with this season. Agree that Gus always plays way better when Jack is out, not sure what to do about the balance of our midfield when both are fit

Play Jack forward as a defensive forward who can also kick straight! But still has midfield time as required.

Not sure if this is the same as others have shared, but AFL Website has included some footage of Crows targeting Gawn.

I'm actually now at the point of hoping they lose every game for the season.  I might have had sympathy for Matthew Nicks up to a point but for a zero-win coach to be putting his time into getting talented players to focus on dog acts behind the ball is just miserable.

Jake Lever must be immensely confident of his decision, there.

Hmm, I wonder, Laird's form has dipped a bit and he is being played a bit away from his defensive rebound role where we would love to have him...  RFA 2021, but Crows might want to clear him before he just walks.

Lol, I just had a look across their list for fun and they are just in so much trouble. Winless with a mature playing group - average of best 22 has been over 25yrs and they've had the older team in a majority of their games.

A team with zero wins that knows things are going to get worse?  Good times.

Mind boggling stuff. The one where McHenry runs 50 meters away from the contested area to charge straight into Max right in front of the non officiating umpire was extraordinary. Max goes to ground not expecting the hit, umpire does nothing. Cornes said the umpire saw it but ignored it. To me it’s a reportable offence and the MRP should have picked it up. Never knew you could just run around cannoning into players off the contest whenever you felt like it.

What is it about being in Queensland? They've all turned into a bunch of no brain schoolies. That was such cringeworthy vision. Makes the NRL players look like intellectuals. Throw the (non existent) book at them I say.

Played a lot of suburban footy in my time I do not remember that sort of behaviour at any time. Grabbing genitals would have got you a punch in the head as I remember it. Now I do remember being in the showers after training and the captain coach coming up to me to talk about selection only to find he was pissing on my leg! Boys will be boys I suppose!
