  1. I am so happy for Neville Jetta. Never have I wanted a kid to "make it" more than this guy--and finally it's starting to happen for him.

Ditto I love this guy, he really wants to be as good ad he can but has had to battle injury every year. Not the most gifted but very determined to be his best. That is all we can ask.

  2. Reckon it was my day to day. Go to the Gee watch our worst first halves of footy since last year but somehow the Bombers keep us in it, missing sitters left, right and centre. I had all but given up hope wondering wherebthis list is at. Then against all odds we somehow snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Amazing stuff.

I then walk home down Smith Street Collingwood, no pies supporters to be seen, strangely enough; several people stop to congratulate the MFC on our win, I stop to buy a bottle of red to celebrate and high five two fellow Demon supporters in the bottle shop then walk on past two people who asked me for money but I have the radio on and pretend not to understand ( yes I am a tight arse but I see these people everyday) but 100 metres down the road outside the Smith Street supermarket I see two ten dollar notes on the footpath. I pick them up and look around but there is no one to give it too! and I would have if there was a beggar around.

I give up it is just my day, the planets are aligned! Go Dees.

  3. How about Sabdringham where we started?

Like it myself but I think there is a knock on the ground for its lack of size and shape as compared to the MFC. I think that is the Saints complaint. In the past I am not sure it helped us when we won 3 flags in a row down there.

  4. Must admit I would be happy if we realigned with a club closer to the city somehow but not sure how. How about Port? I would at least get to some games. I won't go to Casey, not because it is so far away but really because it is a shocker of a ground for viewing a match, parking a car and if it is not raining, then a gale is blowing. Never seen a good match of footy there myself out of the 5 or 6 I have been to.

However if our original strategy is working, that we would become the prominent AFL club in a major growth area that would help our membership, then I am happy to stay with it. Does anyone know if we are making in roads into that growth area as the team to follow?

  5. OD. BB was just winding you up.

Steak was great. Wine was good company was great.

Isn't it fantastic when you are with a group with a common interest.

    Time flew by.

Antipasto entree was good BB and I almost devoured a plate between us

Choice of 3 mains Salmon, Steak and Parma.

    Followed by a small pudding.

    Basic fare but ample.

I had a dig at Bernie that his eyes were wandering too much on to the Blonde waitresses.

    Chippy

interested to know what were the premium wines on offer?

  6. LOL, not like you to hand out praise to the tories viscount earl

btw congrats on promotion.....jobs for the boys eh?

Thanks DC very surprised to see it in the honours list on Monday while I was flicking through the Hun just before the match started. The people around me were wondering why I was cheering before the first bounce!

Yes it is not what you do, it is who you know in these important matters. I mean one can't be handing out these sorts of gongs to the wrong type of chap, after all.

  7. Great comedian, loved the young ones and Bottom but gee looking at those early shorts from the young ones of Rik I am reminded of Christopher Pyne at his ludicrous best or worst depending on your point of view. Pyne must have modelled himself on a young Rik I think.

  8. Well at least with today's presser with Tony and the "Canadia" president Harper, Tony has nailed his colours to the mast. He is a spuiker for the coal industry, no more, no less. At least he has come out of the closet even though he is still dribbling on about the dangers of climate change but you just wouldn't want to do anything about it, you just hope Greg Hunt can talk his way through it and it all goes away.

It's a bit like if Tony was facing a firing squad but had the opportunity to bribe the squad to use blanks, but decides to make some savings so he just manages to bribe half the firing squad. Tony would actually believe that is money well spent with a demonstrated efficiency dividend! But that is to paint him as some Forrest Gump like buffoon which was my most benevolent assesment. However in my mind he has now crossed over into the realms of real evil. I have said before this guy is a dangerous ideological force against progress. I see no reason to change my thinking. Tony is not just an embarrassment he is both ignorant and dangerous it now seems on a global scale.

  9. Because he got clean hands to about 10 others, where he was heaps taller than his opponent and simply spilled the mark, without it being punched away from him. 3 contested marks is a very good effort but he got to a lot of contests and lacked the polish to actually take the mark. Persevere with him though - his marking will get better.

And big Max needs to take them because he is a liability at times when the ball hits the ground. Heis not great below his knees and is slow chasing the opposition. To keep his place he will just have to hold the marks he gets first hands to.

  10. That is a surprise, but there you go. FWIW I thought that Pedo would struggle in the ruck and rob us of our most effective key forward. Just goes to show we are all human ...

Whoops looks like another sub stuff up. They did not announce it at the MCG so was wondering who was off when JKH missed a mark down back, late in the third. Looked around and realised Jamar wasn't there. At that stage I thought big Max was costing us with his lack of mobility. He did work his way back into the game but I still don't believe we can carry him in any other role than ruck.

  11. Melbourne allowing Collingwood to play a loose man in defence was costly.

The best piece of play was when Pedersen had the ball on a half forward flank he actually played on straight away and took the game on which opened up the forward line and eventually resulted in Howe kicking a goal.

If Pedo could kick 60 rather than just the 50 metres we would have had another 3 goals I think. He was accurate each time but couldn't get the distance.

  12. Spot on 'Webber', will write more on this when I have more time (posted a bit on it the other day). It's something to do with the AFL idea of continuous play and it's ruining the game. Evans needs to be held to account for this.

What I find interesting after attending today's game was seeing up close, at times when it was near me, what the umpires don't pay and what they do. The umpires weren't paying much and I generally like that but then they would pick out something when they didn't need to and you wonder why? There was the so called deliberate kick out of bounds, the ignoring of Elliot's high flying when the ball was no where near him, ignoring Clokes holding but pinging Dunn when he did, ignoring what was happening to Dawes in the contests but then paying a soft contest to Beams right in front when there was no chopping of the arms in the contest, which they weren't paying that day anyway.....I can go on and on. It didn't cost us the game but it is frustrating.

My point is that the AFL, commentators and fans get in a tizz over the lack of goal camera technology. The idea that a ball may go thru for a goal and we don't know for sure whether it was touched or hit the post is a huge problem that may decide games and so. But really tight games are decided much more often by umpiring decisions up the field every week. And the fact interpretations change from week to week.

  13. N.Jones - outstanding captain's game

    Grimes - steady without turnovers

    Salem - given football lesson

    Watts - not too bad

    Dawes - beaten on day

    Viney - unpressured crap kick

    Tyson - couldn't break tag

    Frawley - stop chest marking!

    Dunn - great attacking defence

    Cross - wonderful tagging performance

    Garland - rare horrible game

    Pederson - keeps on working

    Vince - too many turnovers

Kennedy - Harris - poor game today

    McDonald - our leading stopper

    Gawn - learn to mark

    Howe - an OK game

    Bail - possession without impact

    M.Jones - ineffective hard running

    Terlich - injured after break?

    Jetta - great stopping game

What was Garland's role today, he was generally playing half back I think but didn't seem to be an integral part of the backline that he should be.
