  1. Maybe C&B and BH just like to let out their inner female. Maybe we should all try it... who would be your inner woman? I'd like to think mine would be someone like Gong Li, but I get the feeling I'd still end up with the dummy I currently have.

My inner woman would be Serena Williams, we both have a mean top spin backhand and between us we have won six US Open titles!

  2. Chardonnay swilling? I have heard of beer swilling and chardonnay sipping but imagining someone trying to down a bucket bong loaded with white wine truly boggles the mind.

This bizarre verb/noun collocation just goes to show how out of touch you are DC out there in Jeffrey K's old electorate (I could picture you as one of his groupies who used to fawn over him whenever he would inflict himself on some poor, unsuspecting function). If you got out into the world that the rest of us populate, your eyebrows would raise in shock so quickly that you would drop your monocle into your snifter of port

Col, DC might not know better, he might frequent the Burvale, there used to be plenty of swilling back when I used to drop in for drink or two with my cricket club mates. Those were the days when you had to buy a supper ticket to listen to a cover band and keep drinking to stumps at midnight!

  3. With Ryder probably going to Brisbane it leaves Leuenberger in no mans land and maybe available for a trade. If so we should be well placed to use a compensation pick. He has plenty of upside IMO.

I saw Stefan Martin at Brunettis in Carlton last night sitting on a coffee waiting for someone. I scanned the place looking for Roosey no sign of him anywhere! Maybe they got their times mixed up.

Stop trying to please everyone, "Simon the likeable" Gil and make some tough decisions. Actually make any decision on your own without asking Eddie if it's ok. That would be a start.

  5. SEN news reported that AFL boss Gil Mac said if Clark ends up playing somewhere else MFC should be compensated in some way. Best outcome might be for MC to go and we get consideration from the AFL Commission of Drones for assistance under the existing rules.

  6. Good to see that the $51 million Royal Commission into union corruption has come up with diddly squat today in their four hour inquisition of Julia G. And let us get this straight, this inquisition of Juliar is about a $5000 to $7000 misuse of funds into renovations of her house. Who knows it might have happened who would know after all this time but yes let us line up the over paid SC to have their days, weeks, months in court and for what purpose? Of course the Labour Government could have called a Royal Commission into Johney's rush into Iraq and all the hundreds of thousands of deaths and dislocated lives that led to. But that is different at least in the eyes of News Ltd! Better to chase down a few thousand in Labour fraud than Rupert and his minion's role in the death of hundreds of thousands and the destruction of civilised communities.

  7. Jimmy was rated as the no.2 choice for most of 2012 - by many recruiters and pundits. Later on, the general footy public including many Melbourne supporters joined in on the hype. It happens almost every year - this year it's Petracca who is all the rage. The hype surrounding Scully was enormous - as it's turned out, he's a C grader.

Fiora, Tambling, Morton and countless others were highly rated. Have a read of all the Morrish Medal winners over the years to see how many didn't go on with it. A lot of them were given a try-out of course, some made it, many didn't make it.

I treat the draft like an imposter. There are too many inconsistent factors involved for the draft to be taken too seriously. Too many busts and too many champs slip through (Fyfe 20, Dangerfield 10, Goodes 43, Black 31 etc etc)

The draft is not an accurate measure of the available 17 year old talent and it's doubtful that it ever will be either. It's a lottery and if you want a highly respected 2nd opinion, ask Paul Roos ... Roos slams draft as a 'ridiculous lottery'

I think your link to Paul Roos thoughts is spot on. The whole draft thing is a lottery because they are so young. I have posted before that if we upped the drafting age to 20 instead of 18 we would have 2 years to assess these kids playing in the VFL, SANFL etc against men and you would have a much better chance of knowing just what you were drafting in. An extra bonus would be that if we know more about the kids the order of the draft actually helps equalisation! At the moment the Hawks are almost as likely to pick a goer at pick 18 as the lower clubs picking 1,2, 3 etc. an added bonus is the lower leagues would be much stronger and the gap between say the VFL and the AFL would be less.

  8. You're amazing WYL, you saw something the entire AFL recruiting community that rated Toumpas a top 5 pick all year didn't.

    Why aren't you a recruiter?

True JW but we had inside knowledge through Todd Viney's long association with Wines. He would have been aware of this kids leadership potential, his aggression and physical strength but we chose JT according to Ox on SEN just yesterday, on the thinking that we had landed Jack Viney so we didn't need another inside, raging bull but we needed instead an outside runner. Again that old adage do you pick for needs or pick the player you rate as the best available? And did we do due diligence on Jimmy's hip problems? Whatever we missed another one.

  9. Sorry the jury still has to be out on Salem as a number 8 pick. He has skills and yes I like his willingness to back into a pack and take a hit but he had several games where he hardly had a touch and lacks physical presence. I hope for the best outcome but what I do want to point out is that I am not yet convinced that our recruitment team can spot the best young talent yet. Many posters are saying they have confidence now that MFC will get the early picks right. I am still to be convinced.

NB I am not including Tyson in this as we had some chance to gauge Dom's ability in seniors at GWS for several seasons. The Tyson pick fits in with Roosey's strategy of trading picks for proven talent.

  10. Was it Neelds or Vineys decision??[/quot

Oh God will we ever know? Why did we go Toumpas over Wines? Todd Viney knew this kid backwards, forwards and every other way and yet went past him. I mean this man child has played every game since he was drafted. Some say Neeld intervened but why would he go past a ready made big inside mid for a lightly framed outsider? No idea. My thoughts are that CS was still CEO but really could we still blame him for that along with everything else?

  11. Melbourne FC@melbournefc 24m

PJ: Everything I've seen in the last 16 months has convinced me this club can be great again and fundamentally that's why I've signed on.

at least we have a sensible person in that position now.

Agree just wish we could get a longer term commitment! Too much talk of succession planning with him and Roosey but I will take the 12 months extension.

  12. On the other hand, PJ said on the footy show on the weekend that he had already had informal meetings with potential Senior Assistants who were contracted and under the rules he couldn't hold formal meetings with. His comment was as long as there is a coffee cup on the table its an informal meeting. So there seems to be a fair bit of it going around.

WTF Hey Groucho are we channelling each other?
