I wasn't arguing that Ash. It was just a question with no hidden meanings.
No worries. I should have known.
I'm still a bit touchy after Wednesday.
Alwyn's first half was actually one of the few positives in a pretty disappointing day.
-
Not sure why the Bombers fans over there jumped all over Gardner, it's not like he was having a crack at Essendon. Perhpas they are a bit touchy after Anzac Day [i know I am].
It always amuses me when they come up with stuff like 'look after your own backyard at 0-4" etc etc.
I reckon the last time I checked, we finished 2nd bottom last year and Melbourne played in a semi final.
Not to mention we havn't beaten you since the 2004 Elimination final.
-
Ash needs to raise the standard over there.
Hardly scintilating stuff!
It's why I don't post there.

Are you serious? Not only is Jamar a great ruck man he can also be a great full forward player. Jolly was dropped for the right reasons. Jamar is far harder at the ball and a more solid option.
Can't agree. Jamar does not impress me. Especially not as a "great full forward player". He is an OK back up ruckman, but he didn't get his nickname of "Donuts" cos he eats alot of them.
-
Has he laid a front-on tackle yet?
I'm sure amongst the 23 tackles he has laid in his first 5 games there would be at least one front-on tackle in there.
Is a front-on tackle better than a run from behind tackle? All I know is that most of his tackles stick, and he has set up numerous goals from them. I would call that "effective" tackling.

ps. If you need to ask me any footy questions or anything about the MFC or AFL in general, feel free to private message me I am always happy yo help out my fans
Why do it on PM?
Can't we ask you here all mighty one.
I have a few mysteries that I need answered, if you would be so kind as to grace me with your wisdom.
Ok, why did both the Bulldogs and Carlton pass on the messiah, err, I mean Sylvia?
Why is Aaron Hamil considered a "great" player when the guy only averages 14 possessions, 4.4 marks and 1.25 goals a match over his 190 game career?
How long will it be before everyone realises the "Shineboner spirit" is just a myth as it only gets talked about when the Kangaroos win, and never mentioned when they get flogged?
Apart from the 3 Brownlows that Colin Sylvia wins, who will be Melbournes next Brownlow medalist?
And since you're predictions are so accurate, can you tell me when Essendon will next win a premiership. 5 years? 10 years? 20 years?
Much appreciated great one.

Not surprisngly the Daveys both have the same defects (1 (so far anyway), 3, and 5) and we don't want multiples of it. Their defensive running is good but their tackling is just not effective.
From what I've seen in his first 5 games, I would say that Alwyns tackling is very effective.
-
I am always spot on with my predictions, so just sit back and enjoy what will be a great night for all Demon supporters
Why do you tell lies?
-
I just hope Aaron regains form soon. How good will it be in Round 13 on the big stage of friday night footy if both brothers are in full flight playing against each other.

Lloyd...
i was at essendon vs st kilda on the weekend, and Matthew Lloyd is a disgrace
did not earn one of his goals, dived everywhere, sooked all the time
how he can be described as a champion is beyond me
How can he be described as a champion? Hmmmm....lets see.
217 games, 784 goals [top 10 on the all time goalkicking list].
Coleman medal 3 times : 2000, 2001, 2003
All Australian 5 times : 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003
Essendon leading goalkicker 9 times, every year from 1997 to 2005.
Top 3 in our B & F three times : 1997, 1998, 2001
International Rules Series : 1998, 2001
Jim Stynes Medal in 2001
AFL Rising Star nominee in 1996
Premiership side in 2000
Pre-season premiership side in 2000
Club captain 2006-
Yeah, he's just a talentless hack.
You obviously didn't notice a couple of Lloyds chases and tackles against St Kilda. Stuff like that seems to go unnoticed when people bag Lloyd. And that's a couple of weeks after Sheedy described his game in Round 1 against Adelaide as one of the best and most unselfish he has seen from captain in his time at Essendon.
-
Cousins out, Brad Johnson in.
Other than that, not bad.
Perhaps you could argue that Burgoyne may be replaced by a Lloyd or a Del Santo, but I think it's not a bad top 10. Well done Yze_Magic.

I love the quote from Magpiefan3 "I also agree as well.".
Surely this sums up those morons.
In the words of 'hoggy' over there at magpies.net, god I hope we "date" them tomorrow.

one that springs to mind..... round 1. holding the ball rule? worst umpired match i have even seen...
st kilda kicked about 3 goals from that alone...
st kilda couldnt kick their first goal until they were give a free kick also.
bad umpiring? or bad coaching? or lazy/careless players?
I think everyone is in the same boat with that one. The rules seemed to have changed since Round 1, which tends to happen most seasons. It's almost like like bring in these new interpretations, test them in Round 1, and by about Round 3, they have sorted it out.
-
i was serious mate!
Never seen anything like it
It reminded me of Pat Bowden last year vs St Kilda, and Peter Daicos in the 1990 Qualifying final against West Coast at Waverley, but from much further out. Kicking with the outside of the boot but from the wrong side for a conventional banana.
It will be very hard to beat for GOTY.
-
Goal of the decade.
Hence would make it Goal of the Century, and also Goal of the Millennium.
Well, so far anyway.
Yzes' was a ripper, as was Daniel Wells' "Jackie Chan is mid air" against Freo in 2004, Mark Merendas' 2001 GOTY was a cracker. Chris Judd and Jason Akermanis would also have several nominations, and even Patrick Bowden and Eddie Betts from last year would be up there.
But my nomination for the Goal of the 2000's is Daniel Kerr against Fremantle in Round 22, 2003. Grabbed the ball on half back, took several bounces through the center dodging and weaving opponents and finished from about 45m.
-
White is definitely past his prime and his importance is fading.
However he is still our best ruckman by so far it isn't funny.
Agree entirely. But I think this says more about the other ruckmen on your list, rather than White.
-
Well said Yze Magic the key to all of this is the word KEY!
I think Melbourne definitely have more quality missing from their team.
A quick comparison :
Both Captains missing : Neitz & Ricciutto
Melb : Robertson, Bartram, Rivers, McLean, Johnstone, Moloney
Adel : McGregor, Massie, Johncock, Biglands, Hentschel, Bode, Maric
And of course this doesn't include the likes of Jones, Whelan & Bell who were injured during yesterdays game. Also, both teams have their first round draft choice [James Frawley & James Sellar] on the sidelines with injuries.
So while Melbourne are missing more key/quality players IMO, does the difference equate to one team being bottom of the ladder at 0-4 with a percentage of 67, and the other sitting 3rd at 3-1 and beating quality opposition.
-
I have no doubt the umpiring so far in this season is the worst 4 rounds I've ever seen, and the worst 4 rounds for the dees I've ever seen.
I actually thought the umpiring in the game against Geelong favored Melbourne. And not just because the free kick count was 17 to 12. The free kick given to Brad Green for a goal in the 2nd quarter of that game was probably one of the worst decisions I can remember.
But I agree that in the other 3 games, perhaps not so much Hawthorn, but particularly Round 1 and yesterday, I can see why Demon supporters are upset with the umpires. Still, that tends to happen when a team is getting beaten. Second to the ball, undisciplined, etc etc, all that sort of stuff.

Really pleasing to see Ramanauskas back playing footy again. Hope he goes well, but that his team still loses
Yep, I'd take that. I'd give up a Bendigo win for Rama to get through unscathed.
-
Extremley well written and sensible.
Almost makes me want to barrack for Melbourne. Well, perhaps not, but well done Grazman, a great post.
-
Sadly I have clear Memories of Richmond winning Flags in 73 - 74 & 80
I dont have any of memories of The Dee's winning any.
I was thinking more from the point of view of the kids. Any kid barracking for Richmond now has a long long dry spell in front of them.
-
It could be worse. You could barrack for Richmond.

It's where we differ.
He's hurt his club. He's hurt the ALF. He's hurt Headlands daughter. He's been significantly hurt himself. And he's hurt Des Headland.
If I do something that hurts someone else, even if the consequences are unintended, I'm responsible.
That's why I said he has done MORE harm to himself. Obviously the image of the West Coast Eagles, and the AFL has been tarnished, but I think Selwood will always be remembered for this. Incidents like this often label players. If I said to you Rayden Tallis, your first thoughts are 'that's the bloke who Dermie stood on in a practise match', or if I said Justin Charles, you think drug cheat. In 50 years time, when I say the name Adam Selwood, people will think 'he's the guy who sledged Headland about his daughter'.
Yes, Headland and his daughter have been hurt as well, but I think in the long term, Selwood has hurt himself more.
-
Ash I think Selwood's comments fall into one of my no go categories above. If the Clubs were not aware of the benchmark they should be after the tribunal.
You are probably right. As I said, it's not the sort of thing I would say to anyone.
And as Bob says, Selwood has done more harm to himself than anyone else. Headland might disagree, but I'm firm believer of the "sticks n stones" rule.

No offence taken. Although I'm happy with our wins against Adelaide at AAMI stadium, and Freo and the Saints who both played finals last year.
