Obviously I'm not privy to all that went on in each case, but from the outside it looks like there may have been one difference.

As I stated in another thread, according to both Sheedy and Peter Jackson they struck an agreement in January that this was probably going to be his last year as coach of Essendon. Obviously the board would be aware of this. Yes Ray Horsburgh lied to the media the other night, but I don't think Sheedy was under any illusions about his position.

I get the feeling that Daniher was expecting to at least coach this season out. Paul G gave that impression in interviews he did earlier in the year. Perhaps he too was lying to the media and he and Neale had discussions about the situation in private, meaning Neale was well aware about what position he was in.

Who knows. It's only what it looks like from the outside looking in.

Not sure Ash is right about that January agreement though. I haven't heard the press conference but Sheedy seemed to indicate he'd consider going to another club to coach which doesn't sound like retirement to me.

I heard the press conference, and I can assure you that both Sheedy and Jackson said that they had an agreement in January that this would be his last year at Essendon as coach.

Whether he goes on to coach at another club is up to him.

I'm happy with the outcome.

A few on here have bagged Essendon for our treatment of Sheedy, but from what I heard at the press conference, I am satisfied with the process. He knew all along this would probably be his last season, but is still very focused on winning games of football with Essendon.

Press conference was very interesting. Sheedy was jovial as always.

He will coach out the rest of the season, which pleases me. Apparently he and Peter Jackson came to an agreement in January that this would be his last season as coach, and it would coincide with the retirement of James Hird.

They just chose today to announce it, to put a stop to the media circus that was surrounding the whole situation.

The more I think about it, the more I'm coming to terms with it.

As I said earlier, I didn't think he would be our coach next year, so as long as he coaches the season out, and the team has a really dash at the finals, I'll live with it.

I jokingly asked a Richmond supporter here at work how should I feel about this, as I have never had to deal with my coach being sacked, whereas he has had lots of practise. And he said in all seriousness, not to get too upset now, but to wait until you find who the replacement is, that's when you might want to get upset.

Look, I didn’t think that he would be coach next season, but why not let him coach out the season, and let him do it with dignity. I think he deserves to go out the way that he wants.

If they announce that the club and Sheedy came to an agreement that he will coach the season out, I will accept that, but if the decision is effective immediately, I won't be happy.

This is unprecedented in the modern era, someone coaching for 27 years. Everyone here saw the reception Neale Daniher got in his last game, Sheedy more than deserves a similar farewell. I hope he gets it.

As for Sheedy, I really don't know. I just hope we don't cave into the media pressure and make a decision based on a couple of losses. Surely we are showing a little more ticker than the Blues at the moment.

Denis Pagan's manager Ron Joseph has confirmed that Denis has been sacked and an offical announcement will be made at a press conference at 2.00pm.

I heard there was a hoax email sent out earlier today relating to Pagan getting sacked today.

SEN even sent someone down to Optarse Oval to investigate but Carlton denied it.

I thought Davey had another poor game. In the first quarter where the game was won and lost, he had no influence at all, and failed to get a possession. Most of his stats and goals came when the game was over in junk time. And to top it off, he will get reported for striking Selwood.

Not sure how the Sunday Age gave him Melbournes best player in front of McLean.

I'd get rid of Hughes, put Ingerson to full back, and swing Neitz to CHB.

You can then put Jakovich to full forward and put someone like Andy Lovell, Ricky Jackson or Yze in the forward pocket.

It's a disturbing trend though, first Tom Lonergan for Geelong last year, and now Ricky having near death experiences from football injuries. Not anyones fault, just freak accidents.

Just a guess, but everyone knows how close the family is, perhaps he was comcerned about Alwyns injury from friday night and he wasn't quite switched on. I was amazed to see he only picked up 4 touches playing on Ryan Houlihan. Still, his goal in the 2nd quarter was a cracker.

ash, imo, it was worth one, if only because it was off the play, the incident had settled and the player was running the other way. i would prefer the afl to concentrate on rubbing out this sort of behaviour, off the ball etc, and leave the big bumps in the game. i dont think rocca should have been suspended. it was in play and should have just been a free kick for too high. lloyd snipped someone off the ball. not courages, stupid, and the week will let him think about it.

At least that is a sensible argument, and I respect that. Rather than the 'Lloyd is a weak dog scum who deserves to get 4 weeks if it was up to me' type of stuff.

When Alan Smithee compares Lloyd to Wallis [i assume it's Dean Wallis he is talking about], any other comments he makes lose all credibility with me.

I can't talk for any other Bombers fan, but I for one, and I've said this all along, don't think the incident was worthy of any player missing a game of footy through suspension.

It's weird though, the week she passed away in 2002 was after a friday night Essendon vs Melbourne game at the Dome. Essendon won that game by 12 points after being 44 points in front at 3/4 time. The other night, Essendon almost blew a 37 point lead at 1/4 time. Very similar games.

I'll never forget that game in 2002, me and my wife had our tickets ready to go along, but ended up spending the weekend in hospital with Ashleigh and we missed the game.
