  1. Good post Jarka. Agree with your comments but we shouldn't pigeon hole some players into the one position. Now that the season is over we need to experiment not only with bringing in some new blood but also trying players in different positions. Some examples of what I would like to see on a rotational basis (there's that word again) is: - PJ to the forward line - Green to the forward line (wasted on the back line - he's the best shot for goal in the team) - Bate to CHF and CHB (depending on the opponent) - Lynden Dunn to CHB (depending on the opponent) - Davey to forward pocket as a crumbing goal sneak (Amazing!) I'm sure there are many others our coaching panel can come up with. The key is to experiment - who knows what might be unearthed.
  2. How many more years do you give Daniher to get the list right, clear the deadwood, recruit the personnel with the physical and mental toughness to win a premiership? Why don't we give him another 10 years. You must be kidding DB! I have said it on this site before. If you want to get fair dinkum and win a premiership back a truck load of cash up to the Matthews front door in Brisbane and do whatever it takes to convince him to make Melbourne his next project! He has all the credentials, experience, unwaving commitment for success, uncomprising discipline and a little bit of mongrel. He won't take any crap from the players and football department and the rest of the backslappers around the club. Hell he kept a lid on Collingwood in 1990 to win a premiership. No one else before or since him has been able to do that in 50 years! Matthews may want to retire or finish his days at Hawthorn but if we really want success we need to go after him with every resource we have available.
  3. We need to use the rest of the year as an opportunity to see who has a future at the MFC and who doesn't. And I don't think Daniher should be making those decisions because he won't be there next year. Begs the question as to how we should manage that situation. We need to play the kids so we can make proper judgements and then decide what type of players we need (even though there are a few obvious ones that have already been mentioned). Play as many players in a variety of positions for the rest of the year and see who steps up and who doesn't. But we cannot let Daniher control the process for the rest of the year as he has proven over 10 years he has no imagination and all that will happen is that he will play the same old players in the same old positions following the same old predictable game plan. He will coach for short term success which will be at the detriment of our medium and long term plans. To prepare for next year we should sack the coach now and bring in someone who will focus on next year and not short term solutions. But who - that is the big question. If Mark Williams could remove himself from his Sandy commitments then that would be ideal to see how he handles the big time.
  4. It was a good article at the time and much of what most of us were thinking (or hoping). Great midfield when he lists them - pity they haven't played together at any stage during the year.
  5. Space in the forward line - there's a new concept! If only one of our long list of coaches and assistants could come up with it! Na - too complicated for them to implement then communicate it to the players.
  6. The season may be over from a finals perspective but barring more injuries come round 13 or 14 once our players have returned from injury and found a bit of form and fitness teams won't want to have us on their agenda! We're gonna give em hell!
  7. Attention All - We have a security breach! Someone has accessed YM's login details!
  8. I agree. When Neitz isn't firing Daniher needs to try alternatives and PJ would have been a good option up forward just to mix things up and try and unsettle the opposition.
  9. After a "Decade of Daniher" let it be anybody else please! The list should include Mark Williams (of the Sandringham variety). In fact they should drop Daniher to Sandringham now (thereby preventing them from winning a fourth premiership) and promote Williams for the rest of the season. Be great if it was that easy! Also Mark Harvey and Malcolm Blight should be considered although I doubt MB would be convinced to come out of retirement. However, my number one preference is to back up a truck full of cash to the Leigh Matthews residence once he is out of contract and pursue him until he submits. We want a premiership - we need a coach who is experienced, knows what it takes, is uncomprising and will eradicate the "blackslappers" around the club who get far too ahead of themselves when we are up and winning. This cancerous culture must be eliminated if we are to ruthlessly pursue a premiership!
  10. YM - your passion is commendable and I hope you are right but not much thought has gone into your comments. A few insights though: 1. I don't think one win will see us "marching into September"! 2. Agree it is time Newton got his chance. 3. Don't know why people consistently bag Godfrey! Sure he lacks ability but his commitment and courage is unquestionable. By the way he did a fair job on Goodes last game. Obviously Goodes thought so too - hence his report! 4. To win by 49 points we will need to kick a lot of goals. How many do you think Neitz can kick in his first game back? Four would be a fantastic effort!

    TJ

Some harsh criticism levelled at Trav here particularly as we are only 2 rounds in. I do agree his performances have been poor and lacklusture but don't forget he spent a good part of the pre-season laid off with a broken toe which has clearly impacted on his fitness level. The suggestion he is missing Silvia, McLean and Pickett because of their hardness is ridiculous. He has been playing good footy with the MFC well before they arrived. He'd be missing McLean as opposition taggers need to focus on Brocky boy as well. As it stands at the moment they only need to focus on TJ and with his fitness level being down his poor performances are not surprising. Sure he can be frustrating, disappointing and laconic even when he is in good form. But gee don't tell me all you supporters don't get excited when an in form TJ gathers the ball on the wing and hits a forward target lace out on the chest. Get off his back - he will get better. By the way in case you have forgotten his record includes playing 22 games last year averaging 22 disposals. and was the team’s leading Brownlow vote getter with 11 votes. He also won our B&F in 2005 so it all hasn't been bad news along the way.
  12. Aside from a new coach which is clearly not going to happen until next year what we need is to inject pace into our midfield. Easier said than done but our entire midfield is one pace and Hawthorn clearly beat us to the ball and ran the lines whilst we chased arse most of the day. So how do we fix this? Bartram was missed, maybe Buckley is worth a go. But after that we don't have any other midfielders with geniuine pace which means its going to be a long year for the Dees. Wait till we play some good teams with great midfields full of explosive pace, ie West Coast, Fremantle, Port Adelaide and Western Bulldogs. Can't wait for those games! It might only be round 2 but in today's footy pace is king and we ain't got it. Ironic isn't it that Daniher identified this after the Fremantle loss last year and has taken little action to redress it. Essendon identified it and took action! A "Decade of Daniher" - I'm over it!
  13. I think Jamar is a better option in the ruck but I'd like to see PJ up forward as he leads well and will prove to be a distraction for defenders.
  14. Don't be surprised if it is one of the older brigade, ie Robbo. Free from knee complaints he might just get back to 70 plus goals next year.
  15. Ooze was a great mark and of course we hope he wins. But Mundys was a big mark in a big pack and may just edge him out.
