Box Hill Hawks v Casey Scorpions
Straight Sets Simon replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
Especially not when all you do is kick to the boundary for a throw-in. -

Good win the end, I feel that the intensity did lift after half time, most Melbourne players contributed. -

Not a good passage from Dunn, ignores Watts on the lead (well ahead of his opponent) and goes for goal from 55 metres out instead. Then he marks 20 metres out directly in front and misses the goal. -

Nicholson needs to realise that he will keep missing targets if he doesn't change his kicking action. It's a like a golfer with a slice, you will keep slicing the ball if you don't change how you swing the club. -

I just want to highlight something Jurrah just did then. The ball was rolling towards Casey's attacking forward fifty, with Watts and a Box Hill player chasing it about a metre away, Jurrah was about two metres away, but instead of going for the ball as well, he ran forward backing Watts to beat the Box Hill player. Unfortunately Watts fumbled the ball. The point is, he was thinking ahead and whilst numbers to the ball are important he backed Watts in. Too many times we see three or four Melbourne's players go for the ball which is great for winning a contests, but once they have it there are no options around the pack running off. It was only a little thing but it's the kind of football smarts and thinking Melbourne need. -

Too many Melbourne players do that even with the ball in the back pocket. I get the feeling Dunn and Blease do it because they rate themselves very highly. -

Which list? The players who should play or shouldn't play? -

First I have seen of him, has drifted in and out of the game but he looks classy and has a go, just as write this he kicks his second goal from a turnover. EDIT: Just realised I have been spelling Taggert wrong, pet hate of mine. -

One of the pleasing things for this game is that you can actually tell who the Melbourne players are because they are making less mistakes than the Casey listed players. -

Goals to Jurrah and Taggart, Scorpions running away with a seven goal lead. Classy finish by Taggart. -

They all need to show more urgency and show that they really want to be playing in the AFL. -

There are six or seven Melbourne players who genuinely could be knocking on the door for a promotion to the AFL next week, you would think they would be playing with a bit more desperation. -

Jurrah three possessions in 20 seconds, he brings the team up a level in class. -

I didn't realise Green was playing, looking forward to this game. -
It will be interesting to see if Moloney does his boxing camp this year.

Not having a go at you Redleg, but this is the perplexing thing for me because on one hand we are ridiculed for getting players like Blease, Bennell, Strauss and Morton (who should be classy, quick and skillful), yet we still feel like we need that type of player.

That's a fair call. I do like the look of Cook, I would like the look of him even more with another 10 kilograms of muscle on his frame.

That is a huge frustration of mine, Trengove and Davey do that a lot.

To me the team looks as if they are playing with no instinct, flair or dare. The players look to be so focused on sticking to the structures that they have forgotten how to play football. The irony is that they don't seem to be sticking to the structures all that well either.

Dumb or down on confidence?

Again, it's no surprise the team lost, it's how they lost. -

Were they? Well we take all the stuff about our game plan being suspect and the Melbourne players being lazy and unfit because Hawthorn were favourites for the flag. -
I hate to say it, but watching Melbourne play is boring. Not just because the team is losing, but the way they are playing. I understand that the defensive mentality of the team may not have been great in the past, but there is almost no attacking mentality at all now. No wonder membership hasn't grown from last season, the club and players need to give supporters a reason to come to the footy, other than the fact that they are Melbourne supporters. Where's the entertainment in watching a team do the same thing (hug the boundary line, play for a throw in) over and over? We too often rely on a piece of individual brilliance from a player like Clark just to get within scoring range. Melbourne has one of the smallest supporter bases and struggles to get kids to follow the team. Why would anyone want to watch what Melbourne has served up this year? We can deal with losing (most of us are accustomed to it by now), but I am really struggling to deal with the boring.
