  1. What a strange view.

I can't look to the previous few seasons to judge players?

All I am saying is that we sit here comfortable in our positive prognostications but there are so many questions marks over the heads of this group.

I hope they turn the corner but Iunless you sit up and realise where they are going you will never acknowledge that they have turned that corner.

Frankly, I have Davey in the starting 22 - I rate what he can do but to ignore the last two years would be diengenuous to all invoved. If he doesn't want 2013 to be his last year in footy - he has work to do.

I am a positive person but I am well aware where we are at.

    aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.....there I feel better now

  2. Looking over my shoulder?

I am looking at the current state of things.

Our list got a massive overhaul and, unless people quickly change their current trajectory, the overhaul will continue.

We have got more question marks than a game of Guess Who...

I don't like to get into one of these [censored] for tat, but you are basing you view of the current on the past, I can see why you are saying what you are saying, but as I have said that is the past, we haven't kicked a ball in anger yet in 2013.

I have spoken to Aaron Davey, to use one of your examples, and watched him at training, he is happy, healthy and fit looiking, he has always been a skilful footy player, so hopefully he can put it together this year, I don't really care what he did in the past couple they are finished,.....same same with Sylvia and Jetta..........it may all end up a horrible mess again but we will only know that in August not February......I for one will be going to the NAB cup games with a fair bit of optimism this year........I want to have a look at them in actual game conditions

  3. Sure.

Sylvia has barely fired a shot for the decade he has been here. Dunn has not been able to cement any position as yet in his 99 games. Blease has 8 solid games in the bank but that's it. Strauss has it all to do to keep a spot on the list. Tapscott has to show he can do more than excellent shirtfronts. Davey has regressed amazingly in the last 2 years. Jetta has yet to show is anything more than a tough little nut. Rohan Bail makes awful decisions and hasn't come on since 2010.

Not to mention that Byrnes, Rodan, Gillies and Pederson have to prove they are worthy of AFL games that other clubs felt they weren't.

We have a number of players that have a great deal of work to do and I don't really feel my inference that Viney will soon surpass them is that inflammatory.

I said before we officially got him that he would be in our top 6 midfielders in 2013. He is going to 'show up' a few I would say - opposition players and Demons alike.

I am all for allowing you to continue looking over your shoulder at the past, as long as Viney plays his role that will do me, you have named a few players who have hardly managed a full preseason ever or for a couple of years, let's wait and see before making judgements on this year.

Although I agree with other posters, if you don't perform this year, you risk not being at the club next year

  4. Surprised D-Rod didn't get the nod. Hopefully Aaron has a good game and gets some confidence out of it, really want to see I'm finish on a high.

Aaron Davey has always had confidence in his footy, the injuries and fitness issues have cruelled for last couple of years, spoke to him last week, feeling on top of the world

  5. Nicholson Frawley Gillies

    Dunn McDonald Macdonald

I think our boy Joel has been the forgotten man in this exercise. I really think he personifies the program that Neeld has tried to impress upon the training group - and therefore will get rewarded with games.

    Tapscott will play forward.

Jetta needs to get consistency at Casey - but could easily spot into the HBF early on in the season.

And as for Watts - lets just say if there was 5 minutes left in the Granny, scores drawn, and the ball was kicked to a one-on-one contest on our half back flank, I'd prefer all of Nicholson, Gillies, Jetta or Macdonald to be in that contest over Watts. Playing as a loose Backman and collecting cheap disposals does not stand up in finals - and I refuse to judge Watts by any other yardstick than ability to perform under the ultimate of ultimates of pressure.

I really like your user name because what you said about Watts is a complete load of it,

    Cheap dispoals?

Why does everybody else have him in the backline, do you see something that others including the Footy Dept don't, if so what is it......

Are you alluding that he is soft?

So you would have him playing exclusively at Casey next season would you?

  6. HF: Byrnes Dawes Howe

    FF: Davey Clark Pedersen

    Int: Tapscott

    Wing: Blease

Midfielders capable of resting forward: Sylvia, Rodan

To me as above is ideal but all of it depends on Blease, Tapscott, Byrnes and Howe proving capable of playing periods on the wing at which time Sylvia and Rodan can rest forward. The benefit of the scheme is it allows the guys who do the bulk of the midfield work (Jones, Grimes, McKenzie) and the young guys (Viney and Toumpas) more time on the bench. Rohan Bail gets left out due to his lack of class and finishing but if any of the above aren't up to scratch I think we'd find him back in the team. The other interesting ones I've left out of the forward/midfield mix are Matt Jones, Taggert, Jetta and Barry for varying reasons. I'm not convinced about Jetta in the backline but the club seem to want to persist with it. Train him with the forwards and I think you'll find him right up their in this mix of players. It's funny how we've gone full circle on the mid sized marking targets, not too long ago we had them everywhere (Robbo, Green, Dunn, Bate, Petterd, Jurrah) and now we've only got Howe left in that spot. Tapscott and Sylvia are both strong in the air as well. It's important to have enough forwards who can keep defenders honest both in the air and on the ground and not just be defensive.

Why are you not convinced about Jetta in the backline, he was slated to play their last season by the Club until he got injured, Jade Rawlings is a big fan

  7. The only two I am willing to pencil in are Dawes and Pederson, the rest will be as somebody else has said rotating, this is what Neeld wants, guys who can and will play anywhere.

I think we will have stoppage specialists in Viney McKenzie and Grtimes the rest will be on the move constantly

I know it was only training but the highlight for me on the video posted in another topic was Jetta coming out of the back half with a beautiful pass to Davey out on a wing, who put it back in the corridor for Byrnes who had come from a pocket leaving Nicholson in his wake who then chipped it over the top to Dawes coming straight down the middle.....Dawes then handed off to Davey who had continued his run...in games yes please

  8. That's Jesse Hogan in the Number 1, he made a lot of the male watchers on Monday envious, at one point he went back to the van/marquee and stripped off his shirt, for a 17 yr old he was ripped, god knows what he will look like in a couple of years, first saw him a couple of months ago and the change already is amazing.....besides which the kid can play

  9. The 2 rookies Stark and Clisby both trained yesterday although Stark got pulled out of the last drill along with Jack Fitzpatrick and Jimmy Toumpas,. They (Stark and Clisby) didn't stand out for either good or bad reasons, which in itself is ok

I forgot I spoke to Jack Fitzpatrick in one of my earlier posts, he said you get pulled out of drills because of your training loads, he was actually a bit peeved coz he was enjoying training, but appreciates how professional everything is.now and the fitness staff know exactly what is happening to each player

Said hello to Stark whilst I was talking to Jimmy Toumpas, another smiler living the dream but built like a stick at the moment

Edit coz I got the rookie who got pulled wrong, if you will excuse the phrase

  10. Pederson is built like a wall and really strong, and he has a good jump, but also is the banging body type of ruckman, I can see him taking the ruck up forward or being third man up, the ruck is one place where we are looking really good, if big Maxy can get up and running we will be looking even better...

.it wouldn't even surprise me to see Jamar, Spencer, Pederson and Fitzpatrick all in the same team at one stage during the NAB Cup to see what it looks like rotating them through the ruck duties and having them up forward

  11. When he and Clark were walking the boundary, purely from a having a presence point of view you would have thought Clark was the captain.

Trengove may tick a lot of boxes on what it takes to be a leader, but when push comes to shove is he the captain who can lift his team over the line?

Clint, were you an agent provacateur in a previous life?

Besides which Neeld and the players seem to think so

Jack and Jack are growing into the roles.

What do you want a flashing sign above each head?

Clark is 200cm tall covered in Tatts with a different hairstyle, and he has the forwards strut (which he should have), of course he stands out

  12. What stood out in the photo's to me.......

Jake Spencer has complete control of almost every contest with Mark Jamar.

Is Jake Spencer set for a break out year (seems unlikely I know) or is Jamar in decline?

Jamar is not in decline, but the big Pencil is finally growing into a ruckman, Jamar knows he has competition, Jamar is getting around the ground a lot more as well, think he knows he has to

It was interesting also to see both Pedersen and Fitzpatrick taking the ruck work in the fwd 50 during yesterdays training, think this is what will happen in the games as well

  13. Somebody asked about the tackling, John Muggleton was showing them another method today said as far as I could hear "Collingwood are practicing dropping the shoulder to bump off the tackler , so use this if it looks like they are doing it"

Clint.....try speaking to Col Sylvia, he is totally aware he has stuffed up in the past, but he has also had a rotten run with injury and fitness, he desperately wants to shove it up people, hopefully this year will be it

As for Strauss, he is nearly back to where he was pre broken leg and he is looking really confident and he has done the full preseason

It is the same with Jetta and Davey that is why both a looking completely different, my man Nev is my pick for the biggest improver this year

By the way Jade Rawlings spoke to a guy he knew and said there were 41 on the track today, he had never seen that in his whole career in January

The only one I did not see today was Terlich

And as for Neeld he hides under cap and watches, lets Craig and the other coaches run the drills, best way I reckon

  14. At the moment Howe is playing forward, haven't seen him do much stoppage work, reckon if we get the rest of the forwards firing, he will be given licene to wander

Sellars and Gillies are the same, big strong gorilla minders, it is nice to have one never mind two

Blease for blinding speed......gliding Barry....... think Kent is as fast as Blease and Evans if he can get fully back is no slouch either

Col Sylvia wants exactly what we all want

If Rodan is not in the team for the 1st game I will be amazed, although with Neeldl who knows

Tapscott looks trimmer, think the role they are looking at for him is defensive forward

  15. Just got back home, too nice a day to be inside, couple of observations

Love Tommy Mc as much as everybody, please keep a lid on it, I was pleased to see he was beaten twice by Jesse Hogan on the lead, because it showed me what I have to look forward to next year as well, and the Nicho incident, he still has a bit to learn, but he is great to watch.

Myself and my lovely lady thought (in no particular order) these were out stand outs today

Davey, Jetta, Blease, Dawes, McDonald, Rodan, Grimes

Of the new guys, Toumpas and Barry showed something, and Kent surprised me once with his speed in the match simulation

But all in all everybody put in

John Muggleton (the tackling coach) has them working hard on the techniques, today was giving them an alternative method, great to see them sticking, particularly when doing the match simulation

As for the way the teams were broken up for match simulation, read nothing into it, been to a few trainings it changes all the time, we need everybody comfortable with everybody else

Had a chat with a few

Jack Trengove - he is coming along fine with his rehab, didn't lose too much fitness, looking fwd to playing with Toumpas

Mitch Clark - still on target with his rehab, you can sense he is champing at the bit

Aaron Davey - happy, feeling great, loves he has got the full preseason under his belt

Nev Jetta - same as Aaron , just wants to show what he can do

Jimmy Toumpas - he just smiles, he is just loving it, told him to keep the beard for team photos tomorrow.

Col Sylvia - again happy to be out on the paddock injury free and nearly a full ;preseason under his belt, can't wait for start of the season

Nathan Jones - just wants to play

Rory Taggert - another injury free, knows he has a battle on his hands to get into the side but will give it everything

Michael Evans - really pleased to be back, no problems now, another who knows the challenge ahead, got interrupted by Neil Craig whilst talking to 'Pickles", asked me what I thought of 'Pickles' so pumped up his tyres

Jack Watts - compared beards, another who is feeling really fit and just wants to play

Jack Viney - just can't wait for the season, told him not to hit the first stoppage at a hundred miles an hour, and he just laughed, can't wait to see him in action

  16. Yes was offered by casey but turned it down as it was a worry with their debt and whether they would last in the VFL. Also didn't like the Casey/Melbourne relation especially when the Dees pulled half those players out when finals time come. Has happened the last couple of years. It's really not a healthy look though.

Can Josh come on the board and say so.....I agree turn Casey down and go to Mansfield....NOT.....the relationship is fine, the MFC supporters would go ballistic if players who need an op weren't sent so they will be ready for day 1 of preseason if they could.so they may not be allowed to play.....also you need a certain amount of games to qualifty for the finals with Casey so it may be a case of the VFL rules it is all a .no win situation..no matter what...Casey did ok.....if you are going to trot out the same old lame 'facts' about the Casey Scorpions at least get it right...how does the journalist know Melbourne have a preference for a full time coach...Lovett was part time and the job was his to keep if he wanted it

Casey have a really good coach now anyway....and a proven one, not somebody just starting out

  17. I will be amazed if Fitzpatrick makes it. Neeld doesn't seem to want to hang onto blokes who aren't natural footballers. I remember when drafted that his junior highlights package was the only one I'd seen without any highlights.

This year is surely his very last chance, given Cook just got the chop after two years.

Have you ever seen him play at Casey, or just the Junior highlights?

Suggest you have a look, such a sweeping statement can come back and hurt you

Cook was a completely different case
