  1. Yep, that's what I took away from that pic also. Socks need darning.
  2. Just watched the whole thing. Always had respect for Mitch Robinson as a player, while thinking he was probably a complete meat head but gee the guy speaks well. That was a better interview than any media type has ever had with Maxy. Thanks for posting it. That guy next to Mitch? Try placing your bloody mouth next to the microphone next time and keep your damn head still. Jesus that was annoying.
  3. Sorry for the off topic stuff guys. Maybe mods can move it? I read that AFL teams can train in small groups. Is anyone allowed outside in Melbourne? Here's hoping Harley Bennell isn't one of those blokes that "can't be left alone" as described by one AFL pundit yesterday.
  4. From another very recent Telegraph U.K article The animal source of Covid-19 has not yet been identified, but the original host is thought to be bats. Bats were not sold at the Wuhan market but may have infected live chickens or other animals sold there. So many conflicting stories about this thing.
  5. Get used to it. We wont see footy for 10 weeks and this is the reason why. It's natural that people will talk about it regardless of how boring it's going to get.
  6. https://scitechdaily.com/scientists-warned-that-china-was-a-time-bomb-for-novel-coronavirus-outbreak-in-2007/ Coronaviruses are well known to undergo genetic recombination, which may lead to new genotypes and outbreaks. The presence of a large reservoir of SARS-CoV-like viruses in horseshoe bats, together with the culture of eating exotic mammals in southern China, is a time bomb. The possibility of the reemergence of SARS and other novel viruses from animals or laboratories and therefore the need for preparedness should not be ignored Still think we might have a problem.
  7. Thanks guys. Nice to see everyone taking it as seriously as it deserves. Our seniors are counting on us. Now we just need the rural Chinese to stop eating bats.
  8. Know what I find interesting The fact that we have all been happy to share the flu with our families for the past 200 years, with never a word about mass hibernation, even though it kills scores of vulnerable people every year, and will again this winter.. This is not the worst virus that has ever hit the world, so what changed? And before you snap, I am asking a serious question, and not downplaying the need to stay off the streets right now, as I am following the current guidelines.
  9. I'm confident we will see footy, albeit at a lightning-premiership pace. No government will keep the country shut down for more than a few months.
  10. Geelong, Hawthorn, West Coast would all roll out teams from the last 20 years that would smack that all-time Demon side by 10 goals plus. Geez we have been awful at bringing in and developing talent at this club.
  11. We will see games again this year. The financials demand it. Simply cannot see the AFL not playing any more games. Bennell and vandenBerg will be very thankful to have another 10 weeks to heal before a stack of games are played. Most of the list will get a chance if we are playing a game every 5 days,
  12. Have to agree. Wait until everyone is allowed to return to work before passing the plate. A desperation move, although to be fair, they are actually desperate right now.
  13. Agree So typical of a rich sportsman to be wringing every dollar he can out of a place that is on its knees while virtue signalling to the public about other issues. A difficult issue to get my head around, as my first instinct is the players should be stood down just like every other employee on the same conditions. The touted 50% "offer" is only while stood down, not for the entire season. However, people on big money also have large mortgages and bills. Nobody wants to lose their house, and fair enough. Killing the golden goose? Probably. Selfish. Definitely Justified. Maybe.
  14. I wish i had the slightest interest in learning how to play chess. To the person who opened the thread after seeing a new post only to read this.....sucked in. God this is going to be a long 10 weeks.
  15. *cough* enjoy the flight *cough*
  16. I dont think so. At least I don't think it's a foregone conclusion. Imagine if the comp actually does get its remaining 150 odd games in with finals, meaning a large proportion of revenue is paid via T.V rights. The comp could bounce back quickly, but with an overhauled structure featuring reduced lists/salary cap, and smaller footy department budgets. The crowds will be massive after such a break, so hope for us to be drawn to play home games against some big clubs at the G regardless of how it impacts our chance of winning. Also look for some sort of AFL future fund to be established in case this type of thing ever happens again.
  17. Iv'e got a story that is even harder to believe, but I swear to god it's true. Went into the local Woolies in Airlie Beach yesterday and found people calmly going about their shopping with zero sign of hoarding, panic buying or aggression, all while keeping a respectful distance from each other. Found fridges fully stocked with fresh milk, fruit and veg, and no price gouging by the supermarket. That's not at all what the media has been telling me to expect. Todays world - a staff member with a squirt bottle of alcohol spraying the EFTPOS machine, counter, bags, register actually everything within reach the moment I picked up my bags of goodies.
  18. Yeah now I get it. I thought we owned the machines, not rented them. Makes sense now.
  19. Don't we own the venue? Unless we sell the venue after the pokies are gone the costs still mostly exist. I also thought we owned the pokie licences and simply paid the taxes on them. Wasnt aware we also rented the machines. Will be very interesting to compare us against (is it Hawthorn who are keeping theirs?) I still think it's a [censored] decision to throw away your main money maker and always have. Footy is a business, and we are about to see just how quickly the game falls apart without cash.
  20. Can any one of you 3 explain how those comments match with this one from @Sir Why You Little "Getting rid of those Poker Machines might just save us above other clubs" The pokie venues are closed - yep And that is going to "save" us? Makes no sense.
  21. I'm confused. How does ditching a steady income source save us?
  22. Watch for the AFL to dust off the Darwin deal and send us back there next year. It will be all stops out for the AFL, and with the poorer clubs cap-in-hand, we won't have a leg to stand on.
  23. The clubs that are financially propped up (the most) by the AFL will surely be in the gun once the smoke clears. GWS Giants and G.C Suns are not self funding and never have been. Yeah yeah, every club takes money from the AFL but those two clubs take a much greater percentage than others, and could anyone see a date in the future when they wont need to be spoon fed by the League? I can't. On another note, let's see how serious the players are about the viability of the comp as opposed to their short term financial interests. Watch for the older players to make the most noise about getting the most they can at the expense of the clubs (Dangerfield, I'm looking at you), while the younger players with years ahead of them lean towards a longer term approach that supports a strengthening of the clubs. Would love to see the back room dealing and player vote when it comes to a re-negotiation of their contracts. Interesting times ahead.
  24. A winners mindset.
  25. Not according to this post. I guess most feel a similar way to you. Angry at the continuation of our insipid play inside 50. Not sure there is a way to change it this year, with either players or coach.
