If Viney was playing he'd chicken wing Ablett within 5mins.
Not confident he's gonna make it though.

The photo of Viney driving him into the ground a few years back is one of my all time favourites.

I think it started the 'Jack Viney Made Me Cry' thread.

    Would love a repeat.

  2. Don't be too miffed. A good 'fantasy price' or 'fantasy score' in general will correlate to better players. However there are so many factors involved that you can't draw a conclusion that just because Melbourne has few expensive/high scoring fantasy players that it means we're down on talent.

Tom Rockliff is the the epitome of the fantasy/reality divide. He has been for some years one of the best scoring and most expensive players in fantasy footy. But as we know, his high possession count doesn't always result in a great overall effect on the game.

Nev Jetta is another example in the reverse. Horrible fantasy scores but often wins those vital 50/50's that a team needs to win a game.

Then there's the whole 'KPP' issue - where someone like JJK or Franklin will kick a bag of 6 and score 200 or something incredibly high, and then the next week kick 1 and get 30. KPPs are 'roller coaster' players in fantasy, incredibly unreliable. But on the footy field, even if they don't kick a massive bag they often add significant value in other ways, and you wouldn't drop them if their stat sheet said 1 goal 3. In fantasy, you always take a risk when you pick a KPP.

However, just so we don't feel totally left out, Clayton Oliver was the #7 ranked overall player in Supercoach last year (by round average score, excluding Jacob Townsend who played 1 game for 118 points).

He averaged higher than Zorko, Neale, Sloane, Duncan, Crouch, Murphy, Adams, Merrett, Pendlebury. Those are some MASSIVE names, and Clarry was only in his second year.

Fantasy footy are fun games to play, but are not a true reflection of talent of real world value to a team. It's more like the stock market than footy.

Don't like this at all. 3 people deliberating on the tribunal doesn't inherently lead to inconsistency. If any of the three can make a decision then I could see how that leads to onconsistency but I assume they reach agreement on penalties or otherwise.

I agree. It wasn't the NUMBER of people on the MRP causing the issues. It was the people themselves applying rules inconsistently and often arbitrarily (some might also say corruptly if one was wearing a tin foil hat).

  4. I had a poster of Andrew Obst on my wall when I was a kid, and a jumper signed by Gary Lyon.

The 90's were a great time to grow up as a demons supporter, even if we didn't win a GF.

We've been so bad for so long sometimes I forget how much fun I used to have watching those games when I was younger, and how good those teams were.

Congratulations to all the ssm supporters and ss couples. A resounding yes by the Australian people speaks much louder and will mean much more than any change of legislation by a limp Government ever could have.

If you ever feel like starting a thread on industry super funds I would be really interested in what you have to say.

lol, don't tempt me mate. I work with them constantly. It's an... interesting experience.

  6. Just going to pop back in here to say:

    1 - yay :)

2 - Regarding the left/labor thing above - I identify mostly as 'left' nowadays but certainly do not align my politics with the Labor party. Many of my 'leftie' friends are in similar positions, where the party that is supposed to represent our interests doesn't actually resemble our position much at all. I wonder if this result indicates that this is a societal trend, not just one I've observed within my immediate circle of friends.

If the Libs can get it done, more power to them. I'm also a big supporter of their recent super changes, and hope that a financial royal commission occurs under their watch so that the industry (read: union) super funds are also in-scope. If the royal commission happens under Labor, it will only focus on the banks and maybe AMP & IOOF, and the huge union funds will escape scrutiny.

That ended up in a different place to where it started.

    Yay marriage equality!

If they're insisting on an aeronautical theme, why not borrow from Seattle and include the Space Needle?

    Very good Skuit.

I was hoping to modify a certain internet favourite to "Hird did nothing wrong" but alas, their prefilled list has foiled me.

  8. Aw they're only offering 3 options:

    The Flight Deck

    The Hangar

    The Bomber Base

And you have to be an Essendon member to vote.

I guess people learned from the Taylor Swift and Mountain Dew 4chan incidents after all.

    That's a shame.

I had the opportunity to do a bit of scouting this year and there are a host of names who impressed me at TAC cup level but either didn't play regular state carnival or didn't dominate.

If we manage to get a second-rounder for Watts and hit the draft with picks 27, (Watts pick), 35 and 45, look out for the following names:

Northern  - Jack Petrucelle, Marcus Lentini, Alexander Federico

Sandringham - Will Walker, Hayden Mclean, Nathan Murphy

Eastern - Trent Mynott, Joel Garner, Ryley Stoddart, Thomas North and Tyler Brown

Oakleigh - Ed Richards, Matthew Day

Gippsland - Callum Porter, Will Stephenson, Jack Hudson

Murray - Doulton Langlands, Daniel Johnston

Bendigo - Kane Farrell, Darby Henderson

GWV Rebels - Aiden Domic, Jordan Johnston

Geelong - Matthew Ling, Gryan Mies, James Worpel, Ethan Floyd

Unfortunately I didn't see Dandenong, Calder or Western play so can't comment on those players. But I saw the above players on a few occasions, many of whom I took notes for under instruction. Happy to answer questions on any.

I reckon most of those names mentioned will be between second and fourth round picks.

(Obviously) I don't know these guys from a bar of soap.

Which would be your preference with our picks?

    Great post. Thank you.

If there was no truth to it you may not have reacted so vehemently.

It's more to do with personality formation than physique-but if you missed that point it wouldn't surprise .

Ah yes, because people can only get angry if there is a truth to get angry about.

No one ever got angry over a lie right?

You see a pattern where there is none Biff, I think Jung called it synchronicity.

I actually prefer to see demeaning words like 'f l o g' kept on the list but your average expletive permitted - would be nice to see 'spud' added to the list as well.

    only spuds would think that.

    ya spud.

    (I don't really think you're a spud).

    Spud.

I disagree with this notion, correlation doesn't equal causation - I think they're mutually exclusive events... For all the players that have left Adelaide - there are plenty that stay even when they're not in their state of origin.

I would love the stats over the last 7 years (Gen Z's and Millenials) of how many who are not playing in their home state, have requested trades back home, vs those that haven't.

Further, (and this is one of my biggest gripes) - for those who post on here that players who want to go home are 'soft' etc etc - family, friends, lifestyle just about always trumps working for an organisation when its based interstate - be it football or otherwise.

Yep. I took a pay cut to eliminate a 45 minute commute (each way) when I was starting a family about 5 years ago.

Lifestyle and family are absolutely factors when weighing your employment, I imagine footy clubs represent a similar situation for players.

Trade Radio played audio of Tex teeing off on Lever on Triple M Adelaide. Did not hold any punches. Said he has chosen "money over success".

Had some respect for Adelaide as a club but they are not handling this situation with much dignity,

lol, a bit rich of Tex to say that after his GF effort. Didn't scream "success" to me.

Crikies I think my 2 boys were the only Melbourne supporters at Berwick College. Oops sorry it is only a govt school.:D  :D

My kids are at Berwick Lodge.

I can't afford the local privates either. I think Haileybury started at $18k a year and St Margaret's at $16k.

Even if I had the money, I can think of better things to do with half a million dollars.
