  1. I did joke elsewhere Hannebery and Dew for #2 :)

Nothing like a bit of friendly jocularity! I believe the sen. ass. coach has been decided on. Before that last I heard A Richardson was still in the mix

  2. dees very quiet on recruitment. seems not many clubs interested in pick 2, I reckon improvement next year will come from current list and roos input...thoughts???

Yes, keep it! Nathan Freeman (Sandy Dragons player). Could be a gun as early as next year but if we have to wait a year or 2 who cares? I don't think he wants to wait either, like a bull in a china shop!

  3. Great hearing the song but I can't get my head around the words, "the team played fine in the year 29"?

5AA commentators praising coach Nathan Bassett and suggesting he's about to embark on an AFL coaching career.

Could he possibly be in Paul Roos' sights!

Apparently we have spoken to everyone including him so speculation builds. after all it is a big decision!

  4. If we can Trade pick 2 for any of Rockliff, Selwood, Swallow, Sloane or Beams and a pick in the 40's

We then trade the 40's pick for ShaneSavage

Trade Pick 51 to North for Levi Greenwood

    Draft Picks

    20. Dom Sheed

    (Sylvia compo) 21. Zak Jones

    37. Daly Garlett

    Preseason Draft - Viv Michie

Delisted Free Agent - Daniel Cross

So we add to our list:

One of Rockliff, Selwood, Swallow etc.

    And

    Shane Savage

    Levi Greenwood

    Dom Sheed

    Zak Jones

    Dayle Garlett

    Viv Michie

    Daniel Cross

    Jesse Hogan

That would be a pretty good trade and draft period I reckon! It's realistic too as long as we can get someone good with pick 2. If not then we just pick up Aish or Kelly.

I would be happy with that and our midfield still looks a lot better!

Phew! Nice work there. Sounds good to me!

  5. I could come back at you with where did you get those numbers from?

Salary, b+f, games played play a factor.

I say Band 3 because Chaplin and Pearce were Band 3 and I really do not think they would be on the kind of coin that would seperate them from Colin.

    Reported as such out west

  6. Or to be more precise rp is there a specific formula for working out which band someone will be? I thought it depended a fair bit on length of contract and $$$. If that is the case, Sylvia's 3 year deal at 300k a year aprrox I couldn't see being band 3 on past experience

  7. Really?

    ...

Band 1 is the pick behind a teams 1st round pick.

Band 2 is an end of 1st round pick.

Band 3 is the pick behind a teams 2nd round pick.

Band 4 is an end of 2nd round pick.

Band 5 is the pick behind a teams 3rd round pick.

    Do you get it now?

Because the brick wall to my left is saying 'rp, we get it, we get it. Enough already'...

I haven't seen it anywhere (doesn't mean to say it isn't out there!) but who says Sylvia is band 3?

  8. If I'm giving up pick 2, I want Gaff AND Shuey.

I don't care if we have to give a little more to get it, but losing pick 2 for just one of them really hurts.

It just reeks of one of those old trades you hear about, like when Freo came into the AFL.

Todd Ridley to Freo in exchange for the pick that selected Matthew Lloyd.

Agree! I want more than just Shuey for pick 2 also. But if you look from the other side they are saying they would want more than pick 2 for him and he's not leaving anyway? Somethings gotta give! Certainly don't think Shuey alone worth pick 2! 20 maybe?

  9. All they have to do if they want Dew is to name him and say he will take over at the end of his Swans contract, he will be released from said contract the next day.

Great call! And surely a guarantee of the head coaching position is better than just being an assistant? Sort of like a full house beating 3 of a kind!

  10. You seem to have a good grasp of how the bands work and I understand the criteria and the AFL's thinking behind the way it works these things out. However, I remember last year, a few of the clubs (including MFC) were still dismayed at the outcome.

Are you able to demonstrate how we ended up getting pick 48 after losing two players of the calibre of Moloney and Rivers (the gain of Byrnes I understand was inconsequential) and how Port Adelaide finished with 29 & 30 for Chaplin and Pearce?

My understanding is that it was due to the age of the two players and the fact that they were offered contracts that weren't all that flash which vindicates my view that neither were particularly worth retaining. On Moloney in particular, I won't buy the revisionist guff about Neeld spoiling him. It was widely known that Beamer wanted out to Essendon after Bailey was sacked and his attitude and demeanour as well as his manager's conduct in 2012 indicated he was uninterested. That probably cost him a better contract in the end and he would have been shown the door anyway IMO which is what I call karma. I just regret we didn't send him off to the Bombers when he wanted to go. He would have made a good fit for the clowns over there and we would have received better compensation than what we eventually got.

I don't know WJ, if we got early 2nd round that would be fantastic and doubt we would have got much better last year. However, I seriously doubt getting that high a pick also based on last year! Just cross out fingers!

  11. I'm surprised Adelaide hasn't offered anyone to trade considering that they won't have any first or second round picks - including father sons.

It would be a tough deal as they only have players and third round picks to barter with but I'm surprised not even Sloane was on the table just to see what they could get...

Maybe they have done a deal with the Dees and are both keeping it quiet? Other than the announcing every 2nd day that we will trade the 2nd pick for the right player, nothing much else is coming out of the club. That's a good thing. Loving the suspense and thinking postitve!

  12. Deyes - I don't pull them out of my arse, the Bands are set an 1, 3, and 5 follow the pick in the first, second, and third rounds of the team that loses the player (Bands 2 an 4 are end of 1st rd and end of 2nd round respectively).

We should get Band 3 and Hawthorn Band 1 and our pick will only be a handful of picks behind that Hawthorn pick because that is how the system is designed.

Oh, and Hawthorn should threaten to meet the contract and trade him but I understand the desire to not play chicken with Sydney.

Sorry rp but wasn't having a go at you, just didn't understand the system. And if the tables were turned we would be outraged! Lucky as all blazes to get a pick like 22 if that's the case. So as long as we pick up no RFA or UFA we are sweet?
