  1. The question to me is how to show respect for the passing of a leading world figure. I thought the one minute silence at our game was quite appropriate and respectful for her as a person and the incredible life she led and as a world leader. The turning out the lights gave added poignancy and respect. It is something I would hope for when any great world leader passed. Crikey we do it for sports people! I don't think we should have played 'God Save The Queen'. It hasn't been our national anthem for about 30 years. Very few Australians of any colour or creed identify with it nor recognise it as relevant to us. The one minute silence in the dark was sufficient and I would like to think relatively neutral, politically.
  2. Totally agree. Yet three of those are said to have been offered new contracts and two are contracted. Our fresh blood have been running around in the VFL learning to play 'our brand' ie play defensive football. 😐 I'm not seeing the potential for many list changes this year, outside of Grundy and maybe another trade or draftee. Not enough to change our mix nor enough to 'force' a change to how we play. Unfortunately.
  3. Hmmm, significant German heritage. Battenberg (Prince Phillips heritage) before the name was anglicsed it to Mountbatten during WW1. The Windsors were named Saxe-Coburg-Gotha and the Queens' grandfather traded it for the English name during WW1. History aside, it was good for Daisy to stand up for her teammates. Had it not been Indigenous Round for the AFLW a question wouldn't have been raised as it wasn't for the AFL games.
  4. Those players won't all go at the same time. Also, Geelong have shown they will target a player and get him eg Cameron and it is reasonable to assume they will continue to do that when they have specific need. They didn't get Hopper because to match the Tigers offer they had to abandon their player contract structure. They figured their would be another player like him before too long.
  5. Yeah, I changed Mean to Median just after I posted. I found this for you. Games played rather than the entire list. I think it is for 2022. But the author could be a bit confused as it refers to Average Median which doesn't compute. Now that I think about it it could be for all games played this year..
  6. In the case of Geelong it doesn't matter as their skewed playing 22 age profile will nearly always show a Median higher than other teams. The list as a whole may be a different story.
  7. See discussion on page 61 of this thread.
  8. And, they have at least six 19-21 year olds, mostly 1st round picks, waiting in the wings/about to be traded in, to replace the aging players as they retire. Excellent list management and this year have shown excellent player management, something we could have done much better. They have 'insured' their list by targeting local players and by not drafting i/state players. The 'Dad's ARmy' narrative has long been off the mark.
  9. At least vs Lions we put in a decent performance. Kick straight and we may have got over the line. But I'm glad to have gone out last week rather than be subjected to Geelong satisfaction of a PF mawling which is what it would been last night.
  10. Have they had any Free Agents? They traded for Dangerfield and Cameron and paid handsomely for both. It was built on lots of cheap (draft wise) F/S picks and more recently on drafting locals and enticing locals back 'Home'.
  11. They are also likely to get Oliver Henry in this year's trade. And, they have last year's draftees to come in. All midfielders except Toby Conway (ruckman) who they took with their first pick. Bruhn, Henry, Conway and their second 2021 draftee, Mitch Kevitt, are all locals. Geelong's age profile will drop very quickly when these guys replace the likes of Stanley, Blicvas, Selwood, Dangerfield, Smith, Duncan etc. It has amused me that so many on DL have ridiculed their age profile. Scott has shown this year it is about managing players not so much their age. Geelong's list is set to be very stable for a long time. I don't think they have an interstate player of note so no 'go home' factor or 'wasted' player development. On the other hand they benefit from locals returning to Geelong. I hate to say it but they aren't going to slide down the ladder any time soon.
  12. As much as I dislike Scott and his smugness his tactical brilliance is to be admired. Like Longmire he has a clear plan for the opps playmakers while backing in his system. For them it isn't either/or. They do both. Successfully. Geelong didn't tag Neale. Scott said before the game they knew he would get the ball but try to control where he got the ball and they would have several players for him. At half time Jimmy Bartel said Geelong let Neale get the ball when he was facing the wrong way. They shut Neale out by having Atkins on him at stoppages, someone to close his space and stay goal side of him. He was picked up by whoever was closest to him. The latter is how they played Oliver. If Sydney win today, Longmire vs Scott will be a fascinating GF to watch.
  13. Kozzie is very close to his uncle, Byron Pickett a Port premiership player who lives in SA. iirc the Pickett family took him in hence why he has Pickett in his double surname and why he lived in SA prior to being drafted. imv he is our #1 priority to recontract and the soon the better. Not many like him and his x factor is almost irreplaceable . He is one of the few players that gets the crowd on their feet making noise whenever he goes near the ball or starts a chase. It isn't this year that I am worried about. It is next year when he comes out of contract.
  14. Who knows with Bell. Young called him out last year for breaking the 'cone of silence' regarding Lobb's interest in going to GWS. It does seem Freo have gone back on an 'agreement' last year. If one believes Bell they couldn't let both Logue and Lobb to so are keeping Lobb who is under contract. Interestingly, Young manages both Lobb and Logue. Unless, Freo get lots of trade currency in via North I don't see how they can do the Jackson deal without trading Lobb to Bulldogs. The Jackosn trade may drag on till the end of the trade period, for another month, if it gets tied up with the Lobb deal. Sigh.. Bell's list management tactics seem very sus!
  15. Thanks 🙂 Shouldn't rely on word prompt!!
  16. They couldn't lose both Logue and Lobb. They can keep Lobb because he is contracted. If they had been fairer to and kept Logue they could let Lobb go. However, Freo have their eyes on a North priority pick so figure that might be better than what they get from the Bulldogs for Lobb. Having said that Bell doesn't strike me as an honest broker and plays hard ball more often than not..
  17. They wouldn't need to if they had given injured guys some time out in the second half of the season.
  18. $700k for 4 years will do it! Especially when his own club apparently turned down his contract request of less than half those $/yrs.
  19. I wouldn't even do it for pick #19 if North get it. Having said that Logue is said to be on a $700k x 4 year contract so #19, +/- other bits and pieces for him and Tucker could be in the ball park. As an aside, Freo have certainly kicked a few 'own goals'. They could have signed Logue for half those $ and terms at the start of this year but they thought it was too high. They have low-balled a few players so it is no wonder they want out. Chickens coming home to roost...!
  20. The bf Freo board have their sights on a North priority pick, delusionally hoping North get #11 and Freo gets it for the two players..
  21. Thanks. With all the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks held by Geelong and GCS they are very well placed to snare Brisbane's first pick and their comp pick for McStay to help get their two F/S. GCS will be further strengthened with the Rankin pick from Adelaide. Hopefully Brisbane deal with GCS rather than Geelong!
  22. It seems both Jobe and Tim Watson are anti Hird's return to the club. Jobe spoke against it when Rutten was exited: "Former Essendon captain Jobe Watson has urged the crisis-riddled Bombers to avoid the temptation of chasing a quick-fix saviour, saying the possible return of James Hird to the coaching role would not work". Tim has said "Essendon do not need a saviour" and "I think for a lot of people it would drag back all those things that happened during that period of time that he was there as coach,” Watson said. “I’d be more than surprised if he ended being the coach of the Essendon Football Club, but I’m happy for him to be part of the process and for him to have the courage to put his hand up and even go through it". Looks like Watson snr is the leader/spokesperson of the anti-Hird for coach camp. Robbo the cheerleader for Hird. Of all people Jobe and Tim would know exactly what went on during the drug saga and would have good reason to strongly speak against Hird as coach.
  23. Players move clubs for money, more games and 'success'. Not sure we can sell the first two and without either of those two, there is little chance of them sharing in our success. So in the short term I doubt we will lure many to the dees.
