Agree....But.....he will play Firsts at Casey and has a long way to go, like his brother.....but I still l believe he will still become a gun...look,at Gawn as an example...

    another example is Dunn.

Gawn, Tom McD, & Dunn all showed some talent & ability from their first few games Oscar has not.  He was at Casey reserves for the first half of 2015 then got 2 charity games at the end.

In the NAB games this year he has been awful and pretty much completely lost.  He has no strength or physical aggression, poor vision and ordinary disposal.

I sincerely hope he makes it too but lets keeps some perspective.

A bit deflating. Sounds like nothing's changed with Terlich and the Prince.

Depressing.  Looks like after a solid 2015 Casey are back to being a rabble.  If Melbourne are going to be a good side we need Casey to be competitive  It's vital for the development of the young players.   The comments seem to be the same - we seem unable to retain mature solid bodied players at Casey - they keep leaving. Surely the Club can put some $$ into keeping some experienced players at Casey.

This thread's a disgrace. Tom McDonald is one of our top 5 players and one of the few ones we've got who'd get a game at any club in the AFL. Like all guns, he doesn't give a stuff about the NAB Cup.

Exactly.  2 Practice games & they want to lynch someone who was in AA contention early in 2015. There are some real knobheads on demonland.

I reckon you shouldn't be allowed to post an opinion unless you have demonstrated some intelligence & knowledge of the game.

Maybe we need a Certificate 3 Course in Football Matters

Why do we bother with such threads,if he end up better than a Watts,a Dawes or a Grimes, good on him otherwise he will be shown the door.

Because its the DEMONLAND way to gush over someone & pump them up to win a Brownlow before we even have a clue about whether they can play or not.

Some of the comments about Hulet's potential are bordering on idiotic.

The same supporters of course will start screaming to delist the same player after 5 or 6 games if they haven't cemented a spot in the side.

Sad to see a great talent destroyed by injury and illness.

I really believe he was on the verge of something great when he came down with that debilitating Lisfranc injury. What followed was a tragedy for the player and the club.

I don't think you can say we ended up "dodging" a bullet because we went to great lengths and invested heavily in Mitch and lost out badly as a result of his long running injury and the mental problems that followed.

I hope he recovers and gets some enjoyment from the tail end of his career. He's had a pretty wretched run.

I certainly wish him well but it was hard not to feel let down by him after the Club had done all it could to help Mitch then find out he wanted to make a comeback to footy but couldn't do it at Melbourne & had to go to a new Club.

I also lost all respect for Liam Jurrah the year he walked out on the Club on the eve of the VFL finals when he was supposed to be playing for Casey.

He started up forward last season and looked fine.

And its common knowledge hes the best athlete at the club, and by a fair way.

I thought he actually looked lost up forward last year.  He played 3 games & averaged 8 touches, 1 mark & 1 behind per game so he has a fair way to go.

You realise you are commenting about a side on paper for the pre-season and is based on what has been happening in the pre-season practice games so far? How that makes it creaming their pants over someone and pencilling them in for Round 1 shows that you don't read threads properly or are just being cranky, frankly.

As to whether Hunt gets to Rd 1, I have already stated that there seems a push under Goodwin to add more speed out of defence and I suspect Hunt, Terlich and Wagner will belooked at in this role and Hunt will be first cab off the rank pre-season. All three have some kicking limitations and in Hunt's case, I'm yet to see the physical side, apart from his obvious pace.

But I'm pleased they are auditioning for this role and also pleased they have decided to inject pace down back. By Rd 1 though, it may be back to the usual suspect - Lumumba.

Many supporters on these sites are a tad optimistic to say the least.  We recruit player x & then some supporters start drooling, pencil them in for a Brownlow & a couple of B&F's before the poor bloke has actually played a game.

I would be happy if Hunt show us he can be a solid player at Casey before thinking of playing him in the 1sts.

I love the idea of Hogan, Frost and Watts as forwards

Hogan - the contested physical beast who will dominate close to goal or working up the ground

Frost - probably the best athlete at the club, competitive beast who can play relief ruck and take ruck duties inside 50

Watts - the skills to finish around goal and hit leading forwards on the chest, the tank to push up field and play the link man

it is a nice blend of talls.

Not sure what evidence you have that Frost is the best athlete but even if he is that has SFA to do with his skills up forward. I have also seen no evidence that he is able to ruck.

The kid has played a handful of games & shown reasonable ability as a defender for GWS.  I'd have thought the obvious thing to do is let him settle in defence for a while & let him build up his confidence.  Playing straight ahead in defence is much easier than having to play forward.

Throwing him to the wolves up forward sounds like a dumb plan.

Further to this, my expected team for this Saturday v Port - subject to injuries this week and assumes Vince or Terlich are not rushed back and Spencer is rested.

    Note: we can play 26.

    B: Jetta Dunn Garland

    HB: Hunt T-Mac Salem

    C: Brayshaw N.Jones Bugg

    HF: Kent Frost VB

    F: Garlett Hogan Harmes

    Ru: Gawn Tyson Viney

Int: Watts, M.Jones, O-Mac, Pedo, Grimes, Stretch, Kennedy, Wagner

Emerg (from): Neal-Bullen, Michie, Oliver (love him to play, but expect they won't rush him, but will take him for the trip)

Unavailable: Harry O, Dawes, Trenners, Spencer, Vince, Terlich, White, Max King, JKH, Newton, Petracca, (Melky)

Not ready: Mitch King, Hulett, Weed

Pencilling in Hunt for Round 1 is ridiculous but continues the great Demonland tradition of supporters creaming their pants over someone who hasn't actually done anything yet.

Hunt has some ability but is yet to establish himself at Casey much less getting picked in the ones.

A Journalist should NEVER create a story

Robbo tries to do it all the time

look how he has covered Essendrug and wanting Jab to keep his Brownlow....

a true journalist covers the story...both sides (if possible)

Very few journalists stick to those rules now. Which is why our Newspaper Standards have plummetted so far down.

Robinson is by far the worst....

Who cares what journalists do or don't do.

Melbourne supporters should stop foaming at the mouth & having nervous breakdowns about Robbo, Caro, Damo, Dwayne Russell or the clowns on the Footy Show.

They are a sideshow & not the reason we have been crap for the last 10 years & flagless since 1964.

I worry about, the Board, the Coach, the Footy Dpt & the playing list - they are the real issue.

It was also Robinson who threw Dean Bailey under a bus with his "Dead man coaching" story at a point not too far into the 2011 season. That's what the 3½ pages I read this morning were all about. "Robbo" with his "coaching pressure barometer" on his Foxtel programme had already designated Bailey as a high risk to lose his job but this was at a time when his team had a record of two wins and a draw in five games. The two met face to face and Robinson offered a dispassionate response that read a bit like the Nuremberg defence - "Yeah, I went too far; the heading was no good. But you gotta' understand I don't write the headings."  In this case however, the words were also in the text of his  article so Bailey could have called him for his [censored] but rather, simply unemotionally accepted it with a, "Yeah, no worries." That was Bails.

A number of Melbourne supporters are continually obsessed with laying blame on the media.

Mark Robinson is a prat but he is a sideshow & was just doing his job.

To me the real story of DB's last year at the Club was:

    1. How he was being undermined by certain people within the Club

    2. The fact that a delegation of senior players complained to the Board about this interference.

    3.  The failure of the Board to deal with the matter properly.

To my mind these events directly led to the capitulation at Geelong & DB's sacking.

  12. I also have never understood the animosity towards GL.  He was a great player & bled for the Club.

Sure he was involved in some appointments where they got it wrong but the only reason he was involved was because the Board was dysfunctional & disorganised & he put his hand up to help.

As a footy analyst I reckon he is pretty solid & a lot better than many of the clowns out there.

TGR you wanted your say on this matter

i think you have had it

yes the use of "Mental Illness"

does seem a little strange but what else do you want to say?

Sadly mental illness is often wrongly used to cover up a lot of bad behaviours:

Did something wrong & lied about it - I had a mental illness.

Cheated on the wife or girlfriend (& got caught) - I had a mental illness

Got drunk & did something dumb - I had a mental illness.

I'm not going to do it Saty because I don't really mind but I reckon you said the same thing last year.

Last year McKenzie was very good for Casey week after week and was overlooked while Lumumba was disappointing week after week.  Lumumba wasn't dropped and McKenzie wasn't elevated because the coaches knew that Lumumba had a future and McKenzie didn't (I'm not suggesting one for the other BTW).  The same thing will happen this year I reckon and Jones and Terlich will only get games if things are very bleak as they fit firmly into the McKenzie situation given a normal run of injury.

Don't think that is a fair comparison.  Jordie only had one string to his bow & that was his tackling/tagging ability.  He was one dimensional, slow, had poor disposal, no goal sense, couldn't mark & never racked up high stats.

Matt Jones has good speed, height & can play many positions - he is let down by decision making & disposal which at times can be horrible.

Ditto Terlich who is actually a bit of a ball magnet but tends to ball chase & loose his opponent as well as having disposal issues.

If either of these 2 can work on their deficiencies & play well they can be part of the team

NB Getting to the last year of contract makes them desperate.

I think Toumpas and Watts is definitely between the ears. ( although Toumpas also has been hampered with injuries as well)

Grimes - I think he is actually mentally tough ( physically he has been stop and start). But he does have some gaps in his skills.

This is not about potting Toumpas - I wish him well - its about the 5 picks taken straight after Toump - Stringer & Wines look like being superstars & Macrae, Mayes & Vlasutin very good players.

Anyway you look at it ouch !!

    Had been avoiding this thread.

Was hoping it wasn't as bad as it turned out to be.

I just want our young players to be the best they can be and I'm sick of comparing our draft picks. Can't wait to see Clarry pull on the red and blue jumper.

That's all very well GRRM but we have seen one rebuild totally botched partly due to disastrous recruiting choices & high picks wasted on Cook, Gysberts, Blease, Tapscott & then the terrible selection of Toumpas ahead of Wines & Stringer so its not surprising that supporters are a bit nervous.

  17. For me one of the most fascinating things for 2016 is to see if our recruiters got it right in selecting Clayton Oliver, especially after the stuff up with Jimmy T.   There is clearly no perfect formula for selecting young players but I think the current recruiters have done very well except for the Toump stuff up.

My concern this year is that if you read all the draft comments Parish seemed to be the better player ie - a natural footballer - whereas Oliver filled the criteria of the big bodied mid fielders which are all the rage at the moment.

I will be really peed off if Essendon come out of this in front of us.  Time will tell but its going to be an interesting year.

  18.

It makes you think, if we tanked thinking "everyone else does it and gets away with it so why don't we". What's to say that was the same state of mind the EFL had with there injections?

Who are we to know how many clubs have tried something like this which was swept under the AFL houses rug before WADA got hold of it considering the number of players that have been court for doping since this investigation on the EFC has started.

There was a team who won 3 in a row in the early 2000 who's midfield looked freakishly bigger then any other club in the AFL.

Is whole issue kinda makes me question a lot of past clubs now.

"who's midfield looked freakishly bigger then any other club in the AFL"

That is a freakishly silly comment - you can say a lot about Brisbane but their midfield happened to contain 3 Brownlow medalists plus Lappin & what they had was talent.

  19.

Outcome dependent on what the police finding was, easy out!

Once again what did you want the AFL to do ???   Suspend or deregister him because of a verbal allegation when the cops have found no evidence

Are you implying we should act on allegations rather than evidence ?

  20.

    absolute joke.
Chris Gayle, compliments girl (albeit sexually), fined $10,000 and question marks hang above the future of him in the BBL.

Dustin Martin threatens to stab a girl with chopsticks, Richmond fine him $5,000. Surely only because they felt they had to.

Quite right.  Forget about the Police.  The correct way to deal with this is to raise a lynch mob - I'll go & supply the torches

it's his choice but it doesn't sit well with me

Yeah right - I'm sure if you were unemployed & got offered $200,000 for a year's work you would knock it back on principle.
