Rumours
I'd love to understand the maths to our list spots. From a changes list we have gained 4 players and lost 11, which is a net loss of 7 players somewhere. What spots do we have free on the senior vs rookie list?

I've been thinking this myself since I read the announcement.

Farewell Christian Petracca
We dont have any second rounders. If this is the deal we will not have a selection until the mid 60s after these two "top end" selections 🤮

Bailey Humphrey
The powers that be keep enabling him to ruin our future though

We dont need GC to jump at all. We need to be resolute for once and standy by our statements. If there is not a quality player and a high enough draft pick then Trac stays. Simples. This draft is so shallow that picks outside the top 10 are effectively a gamble, so trading away next year's f1 is simply ludicrous

GC win that trade by a country mile. Pick 7 will end up about Pick 15 and 15 in the mid 20s. On top of the Oliver debacle this would permanently cement us as the weakest negotiating club in history.

Farewell Clayton Oliver
A F3 for clarry and is paying zero contract i could swallow. Giving him away for peanuts and paying a big chunk is crazy and Lamb needs to be held accountable
-
Farewell Clayton Oliver
If we end up paying half of Oliver's salary for a F3, I will be first in line demanding Tim Lamb's resignation. If an F3 is all we can get, thats fine, but we shouldn't be stumping up half salary as well, that is absolutely criminal.

Welcome to Demonland: Brody Mihocek
The compo pick for Spargo was an end of second round (41 at the time it was isssued) not a 4th round. Compo picks dont even go to 4th round to begin with.

The leverage Collingwood had was we didnt want to dilute our Spargo compensation pick, so for that privilege we had to give something to Collingwood that was better than the compo pick they would receive. Otherwise they would have said to us to take him as a UFA for all they care and the consequences of that are on us.

Funny you should say that because I've heard that's exactly what has been agreed to.

NON-MFC: Trade Week
Wonder if something came out of a medical that might have scared them off, seems a sudden reversal otherwise
-
Rumours
We should already know what the Spargo compo is but of course the AFL are too busy giving the Eagles, Blues, Bombers et al a leg up

I think you are mostly right, but with Clarry out I think Trac will be a new man. Half of his angst is how we enable Clarrys off field behaviour. We can't accept just picks for Trac. This draft is shallow, next year is compromised with academy selections then Tassie comes in. Drafts are a mugs game for the next few years.

Farewell Christian Petracca
Picks in a shallow, weak draft are not what we are after. If that is the offer then no thanks, trac can see out his contract
-

Nothing. The club needs to actually show some balls now and make good on their posturing in the media. Multiple picks for Trac is a waste of time in this draft, its way too shallow. Humphrey and 6 or 7 for Trac or he sees out his contract. GC have nothing else to offer.

Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver in 2026
Sounds like it. Surprise surprise a journalist infers some secret chat when it was actually him ambushing Clarry at the airport

This merry-go-round has got out of control very quickly. McVee, Spargo - Trade May, Trac, Clarry- Sent packing Fullarton, Brown, Sestan, Verrall, Billings - Delisted Hore - Retired Thats a quarter of the list including 4 of the usual first 23 and so far no players clearly coming in. (Apparently we have cooled on Derksen) With compromised drafts and our reputation for over promising to players to get them in then dumping them in the VFL, how are we supposed to have faith we will be competitive over the next few years?

GAMEDAY: Rd 24 vs Collingwood
That's at least the 3rd paid to them for ducking that I've counted

GAMEDAY: Rd 24 vs Collingwood
Given that selection is done by a panel, not by the coach on their own (not that we have a full time senior coach yet) then, yep, the club as greater entity is responsible for the decision making. And last week's effort was flattered highly by the last 3 goals in junk time.

GAMEDAY: Rd 24 vs Collingwood
The club have given up looking at the selection this week, zero changes after last week's display

Daniel Turner - Next MFC Captain?
Agree with this, he's had potential captain written all over him since he arrived and does an enormous amount to mentor the young back group

Yeah I think the writing has been on the wall for a significant period of time, especially externally (ie supporters, sponsors), but I just question how this is the best timing. We have 3 massive games to finish the year, we are already likely to be the underdogs in all of them and this will just add further instability to the playing group to end the year

This is truly bizarre timing if it turns out to be true. After the St. Kilda loss there was a scheduled board meeting on the Monday morning, if you were going to do anything wouldn't that have been the time to do it, not wait a week and then after an 83 point win suddenly drop the axe?
