The 2023 Draft and Trade Targets Thread
The heart beats true replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Tom Lynch could join TMac and BBB in the AFL’s most expensive forward line rehab group. We can’t take the risk on a bloke getting paid a million a year coming back from a bad foot injury. That’d be insanity. -
I’ll argue with you about this. Our game plan is literally built on resilience. Consistent contest win, bang it forward, stoppage. Go again. It’s actually the most resilient game plan in the AFL. It’s physically exhausting. At one stage we had 19 to 9 inside 50’s on Friday night in the last quarter. We kept going. Same story the week before. The one quality I reckon we need the most of is craft. Execute 2 more times a game going into 50, or in front of goal, and we’d win the flag this year. We are resilient. We aren’t executing. 👍

But next year is a super draft! (Again)

Koz was pick 12 and is one cm taller. Judging by your name that worked out ok didn’t it? Natural, crafty goal kickers can do things others can’t. Izak Rankine was a pick 3. I’d pay pick 3 for him everyday.

Who cares? How that guy has a job after his consistent poor behaviour tells you everything you need to know about standards in the media. He’s beyond irrelevant, and just got a job because of his dad.

That still remains, to me, the worst loss in our clubs history. I was 9, and got to see all 3 finals up close. Buckenara kicked from just in front of me and my dad. Its weird that this was 36 years ago, because I’ve only just turned 29 (again)🤔

Really Jimmy? This stuff makes you look like a child.

Onya JJ. I hope you light up the place wherever you go.

How do players lose the skill of kicking straight?
The heart beats true replied to Mel Bourne's topic in Melbourne Demons
100%. It’s all in the mind. -
In the cold light of day we are the sixth best team in the competition this year. I’m of the opinion that we are a top 4 side, with a top 4 list. We’ve underperformed for 2 seasons now. A preliminary final had to be a pass mark. To not make it there is a failure. We turned up in records numbers as members and supporters. I think it’s logical to feel really disappointed by the club. Obviously we all love them, but they let us down this year in my opinion.

Jack Vineys kick to Weitering was the sliding door moment. He was out on his own, under no pressure, and completely coughed it up. I still can’t work out what happened.
-
On The Couch is ugly tonight. We are the 16th ranked team for kicking in the competition. Gawn is the worst kick in the comp. Viney the 3rd worst. Oliver the 7th. Wow that’s ugly.

I always remember the poor bloke after the Essendon loss in 2013. I still see him quite often at games.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - ADAM TOMLINSON
The heart beats true replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
It’s almost like the Adelaide football media invent stories each year to keep their football public interested. Kozzie to Port anyone? 🥱 -
I think psychologically it’s as simple as some changes in personnel. The forward line need a new coach, simply for the psychological benefit of a new voice. The reality is we were decimated by injuries, but 70% of our first choice forward line played in the finals and will benefit from some fresh thinking. I also think we need to move a behind the ball player into the midfield - Salem or Bowey. We get 4 more shots a week from directly in front 30-40 out and we probably win 2-3 more games. Sell that to our players and they’d be much more optimistic going into 2024.

Hang on a minute! I never saw this. When in the game did this occur? @Jaded No More the gif possibilities of this are endless!

I think the big red flag on Petty is that he’s so far failed to hold up to consistent senior footy. He’s basically been available for selection for 60% of games since 2019. We need to find 2 bigger bodies forward.

That ended quickly

Ross Lyon in an interview spoke about exit interviews last week. He said players get so much consistent feedback that none of them would ever be in doubt about what they need to work on, and the expectations of them. He said these days exit interviews are more about finding out from the players how they are feeling and think their year went, checking off procedural and governance things, and then confirming with those you suspect are out the door that they in fact are.

This is spot on. I think this has been a really awful few weeks to be a Melbourne supporter. We just didn’t have anything go our way, and then we didn’t make things go our way. A bloke in front of me on Friday night threw his Members scarf on the field in disgust when the siren went. Our supporters were fantastic all year and we really needed to get something out of a horrible period - where it seemed like all we had was each other, while the whole football world treated us like [censored]. I’ve said it a few times but Friday night was our worst loss for decades.

So Giants get a 6 day break and Carlton a 7? That seems wrong.
-
Power 5.14 since quarter time.
-
Umpires getting very involved
-
I wondered all year if Kenny got the Power up early to help his contact status.

Port are lucky to only be 6 goals down.
