Pretty sure this is wrong. The commentators are talking about how much money hawthorn have in their salary cap because of cyril retiring (contracted until 2020). The afl didn't make a ruling they just said you would have to because it was such a big contract not sure how they would go about following through with their threat if he did retire.

Didnt watch it but I am inclined to agree. I think there are still questions about how we respond when we are tested by a good team before thinking we can go all the way. Although our form is looking good, i'm sure there'll be a slump somewhere. For it is more important to see our response to that than our purple patch atm. The season is long and a lot can happen in a short time. Just look at the sentiment on here from round 5 compared to today. Also, I think the years of being a melbourne supporter has gotten to me and will only believe we're good enough for finals 5 minutes before the start of week 1 of finals.

I would say that richmond and hawthorn's ability to get an easy shot at goal was the key factor here. In those games they were able to get out the back and have an easy shot at goal with little to no pressure. Most of our shots were grubby kicks in packs where the kicker was being tackled and off balance.

Wasnt last year the year when we thought we would target cripps and where hogan and lewis got done for cheap punches? I'm glad we've decided to move on from that and decided to focus on our own game (Hawthorn game excepted)

Yeah fair call. I was just going on the form we've shown in the last couple of weeks vs the form they've showed. I feel like that Port game we got the jump on them in first quarter and they just went into their shells. It felt like they were the better team after. Had they kicked a couple of their missed set shots it would've been a different story. But like you said, we'll never know...

To be honest, I don't even care. I just feel broken at the moment. I keep telling myself that we would've been thrashed by port adelaide in the first week anyway. Even if we were, it feels like I've been robbed of the opportunity to lose in the first week. Life goes on, this will not be the be all and end all. Not sure if this is tongue in cheek but I'll bite. Col Garland has a contract till the end of next year. Can't really see him retiring since he did not retire/move clubs where he wasn't getting any game.
