I wouldn't be surprised if we only win 3-5 games.

As others have mentioned, our list has actually gotten worse with the departures of Howe and Cross. Kennedy and Bugg are ordinary players who will probably be at Casey for at least half the year while Melksham would've helped. Hopefully our ordinary trade period is offset by the natural development of our 19-22 year olds and a better injury run than last year.

Im hoping for 8-10 wins but not getting my hopes up like most others are around here.

Nice to read a post based on fact based opinion rather than emotion

    Troll?

A subjective view of a player. wont rate a player higher just because MFC drafted him. hoping to be proven wrong but just dont see top 3 talent at this stage. observed 3 training sessions so far this pre season, (including 2 in Maroochydore) and dont see what we were witnessing from Salem, brayshaw, petracca or Kent during their first pre-seasons. A top 3 talent should look good in skills sessions. Oliver doesnt.

Interesting session. I watched from about 10:15 to 12:15

    No Vince, Stretch, O Mc.

Watts, Petracca, Newton, Smith, Lumumba, Max King doing boxing only

Salem doing sprints and agility stuff ie. approx 50m timed runs and zig zag leading then marking. Nothing appeared taped or restricted. Oliver doing more distance/interval running and kick to kick with Crossy. He needs to work on his short kicking, the ball didn't come off his boot at all well today, maybe a combination of fatigue, technique changes etc.

calling it early. messed this pick up. a top 5 draft pick should at least be showing skills in preseason. have not seen one positive comment regarding olivers skill level so far. yes, hes hard at and a good size............

DL why do i have to like the new Soulless frachaises?

Hostility is right. I fkn hate them to the core. They Monopolised 5-6 years of the National Draft so they could have instant success.

They both exist for 1 reason

    TV BROADCAST RIGHTS

If you wish to love them as part of your family, go right ahead.

But i hope the fail & fold in the years ahead.

A GW$ v Gold Coa$t $un$ GF at the MCG is worthless to me.

Raid all their players with a $mile just like that [censored] Gubby Allen did..

i am proud to hate Vlads Clubs...

Thats very narrow minded thinking WYL. Australian Football needs footy in the nonfootball states to prosper and if the expansion clubs fail then the AFLs fortunes will suffer.

Soccer will be the number one code in Australia within 40 years. ( Government immigration and population growth policy will ensure that will be the case).  Theres nothing that can prevent that now but we need the AFL to at least be number 2. for that to be the case, the expansion clubs must succeed. If footy fails in the northern states then we will be left with a Victorian league with ABC coverage.

We can't stop soccer taking over but we can hold off rugby and league - we need the north to prosper though. Put your personal resentment aside and think of the greater good. Think of the future generations of footy fans .

  5. it never ceases to amaze me how quickly people forget our last season form. all it takes is a few weeks of mutual online masturbation and suddenly MFC are world beaters.  We were absolutely shite toward the end of last year but it seems the win against an undermanned GWS has people fawning over how good we are going to be. Picking up some scraps in trade week doesn't mean anything. We are a bog ordinary team with some exciting but yet to be fulfilled talent.

Essendon is a danger game as is GWS. Bug, Kennedy and some 18year olds dont prevent Carlton, Stkilda , footscray, Brisbane game performances.

  6. I get the whole restriction of fair trade and movement in relation to a player and it goes against what we deem fair in any other workplace. However, the fact is, professional sporting competitions can not thrive and survive if they are held to what we consider fair movement in any other workplace. I am free to choose any workplace I desire, and so i should . I am free to leave my job with 4 weeks notice. If we carry those same rights over to the AFL then we have players leaving mid season.  But if we give the identical right to afl players then how many of them will be lining up at glenferrie and kardinia park?

The concept of football or sporting leagues was developed before workplace fair trade rules came in. the two can not exist in the same bubble. even free agency is restrictive when compared to any other industry. ITs another case of reality of a situation being different to a utopia. a football league can not survive if it is held to the same rules as the 'real world.' players should be compensated for these restrictions but the league shall be allowed to restrict player movement for the betterment of the game. The game is bigger than any player.

  7. Perhaps a rule where if a player wants to break a contract for 'personal' reasons then they must sit out the following year on full pay from their new club. that would discourage clubs poaching talent a little bit and encourage players to see out contracts and allow the player movement process to work as intended.

Or they sit out a year uncontracted and then go in to the next national draft.

The Clark situation has opened up the door for clubs to send their own psychologists to other clubs, declaring their (opposition) players 'mentally ill', and giving them a justification to break contract. It is quite possible that Fremantle could send their club psychologist to GWS, declare McCarthy 'mentally ill', and give McCarthy an out clause. After the Clark situation, I think this will eventually happen.

If youre right  on that then there goes any hope of equalization. the AFLPA has consistently pushed the line back further and further to where the power of the players has completely destroyed any hope of an even competition

  9. GWS are trying to build a team.  you think if GWS let every bloke who misses Mum break a contract that they are going got have any chance of success. I call bullsh1t on all this pansy crap. I call bullsh1t on m.Clark and I call bullsh1t on cam mccarthy. players must not be allowed to pick and choose clubs under the guise of 'homesickness'.

C.Mcarthy is now my most despised player, purely for what he personifies which is the self entitled, pansy nature of todays young generation.

No I didn't, you liar, stuie said that - and I know far more about the topic than you do so don't stick your nose in with vague threats of violence. Who do you think you are? Maybe we will bump into each other down at training one of these days eh and then you can make good on your threats

Unbelievable how soft minded most of you are, even AFTER what we saw happen with Mitch Clark. Being depressed is one thing, it doesn't excuse bad behaviour.

Feeling depressed? Just go ahead and chuck in the towel then, don't worry about people you have made commitments to

Great advice for a great society championed by the likes of yourself and mr.women's rights on his soapbox stuie. The SJW who is just such a  better human than the rest of us. Such great human but somehow gets into a spat with a different poster every day on this forum, he's got a big old heart though doesn't he (vomit)

PS lucky me that my post wasn't deleted this time, although no action for stuie eh, I guess some people are allowed to exhibit textbook trolling and break the site rules on a daily basis with impugnity

a typical affliction of the SJW types. I agree with you. theres no requirement for accountability anymore. lets set a precedent and let anyone who's sad go back the club of their choice. Watch the league unravel quicker than ball of string. Young players must understand a contract is binding. homesickness is an affliction for 12 year olds. this guy is in his early 20s for F&*^s sake. blokes younger than him went to gallipoli and he can't handle living in sydney as a pro athlete?!! please

Delidio and Cotchin were dreadful in last years finals! As leaders they should be seething with their inept displays

I could never in my wildest dreams imagine Chunky Jones playing so poorly in a final!

Give me the goer anyday in a final! Is Jones that different to Todd Viney, who was superb in our finals campaigns

Deledio and Cotchin ?? Meh.. If you cant produce in cut throat finals boys, go play tiddlywinks with grandma around the corner!

I think Jones and T.Viney is a good comparison as far as influence on the team goes. Jones more skilled but both of their main attributes was their ticker.

I was in two minds as to whether I responded or not, but I can't let it go.  Selwood is unquestionably a couple of classes above Jones.

Selwood has won 3 B&F's in a far superior team and alongside champions of the game.

He has 4 AA.  Jones has never made the squad.

He's been named best captain in the AFL.

Four times he's been named the AFL's most courageous player.

He also won the Rising Star award in 2007.

I appreciate it's harder to play well in a poor team, but on no level is Jones the equal of Selwood as a player and I find it one of your more baffling suggestions.

Also, in 3 more games Selwood has 350 more tackles.  You don't have to be a star to tackle.  It's just that Selwood is driven to do everything well.

And tackling is just one more area where he's superior to Jones.

At our club, Brayshaw is more of the class of selwood. Jones has become one of my all time favorite players for the club purely through his hard work and heart. A very good player, yes , and as important for the MFC as selwood has been for geelong, but Jones is not in the same class as a footballer. For pure effort and heart then i say they match up very well.
