Your best bet is to make yourself known to them socially and then work on the actual issue. Vietnamese culture generally shows very little consideration for people unless there is a personal connection.

You don't have to marry their eldest son, though. The very next step down from that is to grab a box of in-season cherries from a proper grocer and knock on the door. This time of year cherries even overtake vitamins as the preferred checked baggage for Australia to Vietnam flights. 100% not kidding. Premium fruit is a Vietnamese social activity and they'll even be sharing on social media how great their neighbour is. You will be officially inducted into the circle of people to be considerate of.

From there eventually you'll be able to set some boundaries. As long as you don't marry their eldest son. Then you'll be expected to bring more cherries every time they karaoke.

    Or a bottle of Brandy.

  2. The worst Karaoke is in Vietnam. Everyone's got one and they turn them up to 11.

Competing Romantic wailing ballads that sound like cats fighting or Chickens in severe pain.

Celine is atrocious I agree but surely she can't go on?

  3. We'll make the GF.

We had a Grundy problem last year not to mention the other.

I think we can sort out the forward line with Roo ,Petty and Fritta good targets.BBB a bonus if fit.

Might see some big improvers such as Sparrow,Spargo ,ANB and Bowey now showing total reliabilty.Riv also.

I don't expect full seasons from Melk and BBB or Tom Mac.

Be nice to have Salem and Fritsch firing all year.

    Pickett will be AA material.

Petracca,Gawn and Viney will back up as usual.

Oliver will prove his detractors wrong and sort himself.

One or two new guys should emerge.

We are closer to another grail than it seems.

  4. Yours truly was invited for a training camp for the Dees U19s at Lorne in the Summer of 90/91. I was just 18.

I stupidly chose to get hammered with my friends instead. In Lorne.

I was fit enough but I just never thought I was skilled enough to make it.

I had played against Hopgood and Lovell and Stuart Maxfield that year and went OK.

    Their footskills were miles ahead.

I was probably fitter than all of them.

    But I chose to party.

    Silly Biffen.

  6. I sold my soul in order to become the handsomest, wittiest man in the entire Prahran region when I was a boy.

Needless to say I met the devil at the crossroads (High and Chapel st) in the mid '80s.

I fulfilled my half of this Faustian pact, racking up admirers along the South Eastern seaboard .

It took the Devil many years to repay my sacrifice.
