  1. Is that the reason he has had another crack..i just had a friend message me tell me he is calling us a rabble again.....

If that is why he is calling us a rabble he has pretty much shown what an idiot he is.

Pretty much - he said a memo has gone out to all clubs that they must pay 100% of the cap, he said Tim Harrington has given incorrect info. He also had a crack at us for apparantly sacking Cameron Schwab and then re-hiring him. What is this guys problem? I tried to look him up on Wikipedia to see if he has any past ties to the club as it seems like he has a case of the old sour grapes syndrome but he is not even on Wikipedia! Why is this fool on SEN - what is his claim to fame? Writing for the Australian is hardly a claim to fame because as far as footy goes The Australian has about as much credibility as Sports News First. Can anyone please confirm why this idiot is on the airwaves???????

  3. I will probably get shouted down for this but I personally think that we ought to be a little more bold with our offerings and try to land tippet.

Given that picks (even early ones) are speculative and by no means guaranteed, and given that we were "awarded" 2 compensation picks to replace $cully we should use them.

We also know exactly what we are getting with next years first rounder in Viney.

I would be all for offering Adelaide all 3 first round picks for Tippet and offering him $500,000 a year for 5 years.

People will scream "overs!" but is it really?

It's a publicised weaker draft and a draft in which we have 2 extra first rounders in which to replace a high quality, young and potentially elite player. So lets use them as such.

Our regular first round pick I would be prepared to use on the same player if for nothing else than it's not speculative but rather an assured pick used on a quality player to fill the most glaring hole on our list.

I think if it would take something extraordinary or "overs" to lure Tippet and we can afford to do so then why the hell not?

Would certainly be a big statement. Of all clubs we have a very first hand knowledge of the fact that there are no guarantees with high draft picks at all. At least with Tippet we know he can deliver and if we can pay him 2.5m over 5 then we will also have an major piece of the puzzle in place when the window opens

Yeah great Idea - lets waste more time on another bloke that wants to live interstate!

  4. It's not the end of the world guys - we were never going to get him and must move on. Time to land a Lisle or perhaps a VFL/SANFL/WAFL Key position player. Moving forward Lucas Cook is the man - we just need someone else whilst he is developing. I'd also like to see if we can land 1 or 2 mature bodied midfielders as this is an area we need to work on.

  5. You do realise that Trade week is not just about getting players. Keeping your most dangerous opponents accountable is also part of the game. Getting involved in the Clark negotiations was always a win-win.

Rubbish. Unless we actually get some draft picks out of it it's not a win at all for us.

  6. Yeah trade for any dud and say we got a player who wante dot play for us. woopy do.

So you would prefer us to waste more time chasing this dead end? I'm not sure if you understand this but the most important thing about any trade is the player in question must want to come to the club - this is of paramount importance. If the player doesn't want to come to the club then the trade doesn't happen.

  7. Clark's Manager is on Trade Week Radio and has stated he wants to go to Freo - Surprise, Surprise. He doesn't want to play for us. Is everyone clear on that? Can we please move on and actually do something constructive this trade week and land a player that wants to be at the club!

  8. The Demons offered their compensation pick for losing Scully, which can be used up until 2015, and is tied to the ladder position of Melbourne.

Melbourne also offered pick No.12 but wanted a draft selection inside the top 25 in return.

If true then that is disapointing. I think pick 12 + compo for an elite talent was worth it, no need to ask for the top 25 pick also.

  9. And my comment relates to the fact that just because you don't see anything going on, it doesn't mean that the machinations are not taking place behind closed doors. Believe it or not, multi-tasking is possible.

Fair call, I'll cop that. We probably would be working on other things but we can't make any real moves until this Mitch Clark situation gets sorted. If this drags out until Monday 1pm then that doesn't leave much time for us to get a whole lot done.

  10. Can't say I've seen that written up anywhere; have just seen people saying his wife/partner and child are in Perth - but again, not seen anything written up officially about that either... however, it is NOT a certainty he will go West; the MFC offer could set him up for a much better shot at life in general for him and his family.

And by the way, where has it been stated that the MFC are no longer considering Lisle? Love your defeatist (yes defeatist, not realist) attitude!

I never said that. All I am saying is with all this time invested in this Clark deal we may miss out on a Lisle or some other potential deals....

  11. Simma, Clark IS a key forward. I know you don't believe it, and you're entitled to your opinion, but think about it from the perspective...

Neeld, at his job interview, put a MFC team on the board, and highlighted where the holes are on our list. In terms of rucks, it would be safe to assume that we are travelling ok with Jamar (AA ruck), Martin, Gawn, and for drastic measures we can use Robbie Campbell (rookie), Jack Fitzpatrick and Lynden Dunn. It's only after Dunn that I would consider Spencer.

It was no secret that we made a play for Dawes. What's his primary role? Full forward/Centre Half Forward. We didn't get him, even after throwing big dollars at him. The very next person we are throwing those sort of dollars at is Mitch Clark. If, as you believe is right, Mitch Clark is a ruckman, why on earth would we be offering him a similar contract to what we offered a full forward/chf?

Is there going to be any stage that you will think, and don't worry - you're not on your own, that maybe, just maybe Rawlings (who was an assistant coach for him for the past 2 years, Neeld (who is our head coach and has been given a licence (within reason) to target the exact type of player he wants), that these blokes actually know a bit more about M Clark's strengths than you do?

I don't mean to sound like a smart ass, but I think it's pretty clear what role they think Clark is best at playing, and as a result, are wanting him to fill that role in our team. They WON'T be offering those sort of terms to a player that isn't the right man for the job.

Okay, just say I change my view on Clark being a decent key forward - I'm not but for argument sake I'll put that on the back burner. He is not worth pick 12 + and a compo and this is what we may have to give up to get him. Pick 12 alone - not a bad get. Don't get me wrong I think Clark is a decent player but no superstar. Most importantly, he doesn't want to live here. His heart is in Perth. This is the biggest issue here - he doesn't want to live in Brisbane so I really can't see why he would come to Melbourne. Perth is where he wants to be.

  12. What a pathetic attitude.

We may not sign him, but to say we shouldn't even try is pure syndrome.

What part of Clark wanting to live in Perth don't you understand? He has a family over there including a sick Grand Mother - this is more of a lure than money and living in Melbourne! We won't get him so I'd prefer us to spend our time on prospects that are a more realistic chance of landing!

  13. Oh noes...

We could miss out on a worse player by trying to sign the better player?!

    What are we doing?!

Clark is not a key forward - he's a far better ruckman. We already have an excellent prospect on our list in Lucas Cook to be a key forward. I'd prefer us to get Lisle whilst Cook is developing and stop wasting time on Clark. We won't land him and we are wasting our time trying to do so.
