  1. All the noise is we'll be giving up a first rounder for him which is disappointing but I'll reserve my judgement until the trades are done. Wouldn't surprise me if it gets a bit convoluted with multiple pick swaps. One hypothetical I could see being somewhat reasonable is as follows... Say we get a top 10 pick and Freos 13 for Jackson. We could trade 13 and 32 for Grundy and 16. This values grundy at pick 26 and we maintain 2 x first round selection at the expense of a 2nd round pick which we may not use.
  2. Perhaps bulldogs pick 37. Lobb will most likely require their 2nd round pick, 29, and their next one is a pick in the 60s. Futures obviously an option as well.
  3. https://7news.com.au/sport/afl/melbourne-utility-adam-tomlinson-in-the-mix-for-shock-move-to-third-afl-club-c-8330309 Tomlinson did a medical at the Bulldogs according to Mark Stevens. With salary dumping all the rage at the moment, it will be interesting to see how this plays out if he does move. Do we pay the dogs with a later pick to take his full salary on? Is it that much of a burden that we would give up draft capital? Or do we pay 100-200k of his contract and get a token 3rd or 4th round pick? Or given the dearth of Key Defenders on the market and that he's contracted, do we drive a hard bargain and try and extract a 2nd round pick from the dogs? Our key defender depth will be whittled down to Turner and Joel Smith in the absence of any replacements which has me concerned.
  4. My understanding is that clubs that will take on Bowes and his contract in full will likely receive a pick, most likely a 2nd rounder. Akin to the Brodie trade last year in which freo got him and pick 19 with some later swaps. No idea about how tight our salary cap space is for this to be a realistic chance but I would suggest it's unlikely.
  5. Meek is keen to go to Hawthorn. Freo ruckman keen on Hawks move, another Docker nominates North - https://www.afl.com.au/news/847382
  6. Probably makes sense when you look at the players out of contract next year, most of which we will want to keep. Trade in Grundy and acquire 2-3 players via the draft as high as possible this year, have added depth for another year before the form part of our mandatory delistings I'm 2023.
  7. Rosman never quite looked comfortable at the level despite having some great attributes. Shame he missed out on the VFL granny with concussion.
  8. This is the first I've read anything about the possibility of a 5 man bench next year. Has it been reported or speculated on in the media or is this an educated guess on your part?
  9. Darcy Tucker officially requesting a trade to North Melbourne with one year left on his contract. Dockers happy to facilitate if it's a "mutually beneficial" outcome. With the newly awarded assistance package one would presume either Kangas assisted future 2nd or 3rd will be involved for one or both of Tucker and Logue. Another Docker seeks move to North Melbourne… https://www.afl.com.au/news/847382/another-docker-seeks-move-to-north-melbourne
  10. JvR to debut round 1.
  11. Steven May - 0 Jacob Weitering - 0 Darcy Moore - 0 Sam Taylor - 1 Only key defender that polled well was Stewart with 9 and he probably deseved more. Surely AFL need to have a word with the umpires and tell them to start recognising defenders.
  12. Seems we will have significant negotiating power if they want to get all their other deals done.
  13. This. We track players we are keen on and given we have looked to add midfield depth recently it wouldn't surprise to see us have a look here. Can't see how Brisbane gets both father/son prospects and dunkley without trading out a couple players on top of losing McStay and possibly Gardiner. Bulldogs won't be happy with a late first round pick for Dunkley.
  14. No surprises here with Hill officially requesting a trade to the Pies. Small forward confirms wish to head to Magpies - https://www.afl.com.au/news/846192 For a club that's allegedly under salary cap pressure they are pretty active in recruiting players with Frampton and McStay both set to join the Pies as well. Grundy must be a near certainty to be a dee.
  15. Southport should be in the AFL instead of the Suns. Actual club with history, established supporter base and jumper that doesn't induce nausea.
  16. Good win Casey. Glad to hear the seniors were all there to support them. Premierships are special at any level.
  17. Without knowing contract details I would look at Flanders and Hollands with Flanders the more realistic one they might consider. Will Powell is coming off that nasty leg injury but if the Suns wanted to move him on (doubtful) I would look at him subject to a medical.
  18. The interesting part will be to see how they manage the transition of their midfield. Selwood, Duncan, Guthrie, Paddy, Smith are 30+ and provide experience and consistent performance. Next rung down is Parfitt, Narkle O'Conner who are clear downgrades. Cooper, Knevitt, Bruhn* have had limited exposure and will be inconsistent for a number of years still. Holmes has performed well but is receiving protection from their experienced hands. You can see why they were targeting Hopper, who at 25, would provide experience and consistency. I watch and hope for their downfall but have learnt not to hold my breath.
  19. I haven't watched this game yet but I've liked what I've seen of Oli Hotton this year, particularly through the champs.
  20. Perhaps a chance to acquire him and Grundy? We need more than two ruckman on the list and would be nice to have one that's developed and ready to go in case of an injury to either Gawn or Grundy. Better than an 18yr old draftee that needs 4-5 years and wouldn't be able to physically compete. However I can't see him going for it as I presume he wants more senior time. Perhaps we should be scouring lists for a ruck that's 21/22 that might want to serve as an understudy to Gawn and Grundy. TDK anyone?
  21. The price of Lobb and Rioli, how will Dunkley 'domino' fall? https://www.afl.com.au/video/842743 Stated here at around the 4.20 mark.
  22. Cal Twomey stated yesterday there is zero chance Kozzie leaves Melbourne this year. Hope we can re-sign him in the off-season otherwise it will be another Jackson-like season to endure.
  23. He's 196cm according to the man himself from the road to the draft podcast he featured on. Probably still growing as an 18yr old.
  24. Sheezel, Wardlaw and Tsatas would all be in the mix, but you're right in that Cadman to North is a real possibility.
  25. Information in this article update is consistent with what @Demon3has been stating re our compensation request. UPDATE: Demons ruck requests trade to WA club - https://www.afl.com.au/news/842339 "But now the Demons will be locked in trade talks. If he chooses Fremantle the reigning premiers would be expected to target two first-round picks for Jackson, including a top-10 pick this year." "The Dockers hold pick 13 in this year's draft, but could look to move up the draft board using other selections, with the club bracing for trade requests from Rory Lobb, Blake Acres and Darcy Tucker, with Griffin Logue also considering a move to Victoria." "West Coast holds picks No.2, 20 and 26 this year but as AFL.com.au reported in May, would need AFL approval to trade its first pick under League rules. The AFL would be expected to tick that off given Jackson’s age and experience."
