In my old-man midweek sporting competitions, I can tell when I'm just cruising through a game, or when I've made a conscious choice to run hard and play properly. Surely these blokes can do that by now - it's astonishing.

Interesting. What often happens in a corporate setting like this is that when the bloke who has done the hard yards internally is passed over, he goes somewhere else to get the promotion. If you thought you were ready for a CEO role, and obviously got close this time around, why would you hang around for 10 years until Pert retires? There will be fallout from this, no doubt.

Have a quick Google - he was pencilled in as the next captain right across the footy world, but I thought there had been some internal stuff which meant that he didn't get it. I could be remembering incorrectly!

He was their last captain too, until there was a player revolt and they gave it to Mundy.
