I'm more talking about the winning and the losing from a neutral point of view Regardless of which side anyone is on, it all comes down to who wins. As for governance, my expectations are virtually zero and that applies to any side of politics IMV

A postponed game that is played a few days later can still be counted but there are a number of other variables For instance, a game played in week 17 could be postponed for at least 2 weeks if the game is COVID-19 effected ... in that situation we could still wait around for the result.

Trump needs to stop talking about COVID-19 in the way he is addressing the issue It is not helping him gain or win votes and in effect, he is losing potential votes especially amongst the older conservative types. Especially in Florida where he needs to win He's normally very good at playing to his audience and certain demographics. He needs the 'older' vote but he's losing them over COVID IMV he'd be best placed not talking about the virus at all ... same as the Democrats should not be focused on Trump either

Drawn a nice barrier too I am a bit of a times man JV and Red Chase has been running some slick times carrying more weight at Eagle Farm & Doomben 1.95 the place also appeals as a multi inclusion ... doubles any dividend Laddies are returning $6 for the win as well (with a boost) ?

The 0.5 I can get my head around .... that can work. The leaderboard wouldn't take any more time to do and the half points makes a point of difference as well. If 2 games are cancelled the half point can still apply (?) (or 1 point when 2 points are on offer) You've got my vote Gorg From my point of view a tipping comp such as the one we have serves a purpose of keeping the thread ticking over ... and it has achieved that over time. I don't run it for any other reason A lot of the other sports threads are dormant or dead but not this one. So in orded to keep the tipping comp going we can't over complicate the process for the participants. It's easy to moderate and easy to play. So if we keep it that way, I'm all in.

The issue might be that someone might have already included the Monday night game in their tips. Then we'd need another default game and maybe even a 3rd game The key is to make it as simple as possible ... one thing we do know is that the virus can or could hit a team on the day of the match or the day before so it's better to be prepared. And we very nearly got caught out with the Saints game in the just completed week. The other issue is that not everyone is always here so we can't assume that anyone will have the time to re-do their tips. And the other thing is that I don't want to spend any more time here than necessary running the comp At the moment the comp basically runs itself, is really low maintenance and I don't need any more than about 15 minutes per week to run it. It's simplicity is it's strength From my point if view I'm looking for the simplest possible solution.

As if my sub tip would have any chance of saluting GtB!! Not a bad idea though Whatever we do decide to do we'll need to stick to it. I'm a stickler for fairness and I'd hate to see people miss out completely on a postponed game. The virus is out of control in the States so the games are almost certainly going to be effected Getting a win for a cancelled game won't mean that a point is assured either ... we all know how difficult it can be to get 3 road winners. My view rewards a bit of luck and us being all Demon fans, we could do with some luck But I'll go with the majority view or the consensus. By the way, I reckon there is a trap game amongst the heavily favoured teams this week ... just don't ask me which one!

With regards to the comp we are going to need a contingency plan if a game or games are called off at the last minute (due to COVID-19 or other such variables) The cancelled or postponed games are an obvious no result for that week but how will that no result count towards picking 3 road winners? I'm in favour of counting a cancelled or postponed game as a WIN (putting aside that the game will almost certainly be played at a later date) If we go the other way do we allow people to re-do their tips? And does everyone get that option? What if people have to re-do their tips again and again? Becomes a bit cumbersome especially if there are multiple cancelled games on different days As previously stated above, I'm in favour of counting a cancelled/postponed game as a win What do others think?

Best Bet Saturday Caulfield Race 5 No.8 Dirty Work Win/Place 5.50/1.80 Should get into the finish so the 1.80 the place fits nicely into a multi But if the horse runs to its best, it's definitely a winning chance

2 points on offer this week (as well as every odd numbered week for the rest of the season ... save for week 16 which is worth 2 points & week 17 which is worth 3 points Leaderboard Tipping Comp 4 - Gorgoroth, Clintosaurus, Go the Biff, titan_uranus, DeeSpencer 2 - Dee Zephyr, DemonDave, Macca 1 - Layzie, JV7, Dr. Gonzo

Leaderboard Tipping Comp 4 - Gorgoroth, Clintosaurus, Go the Biff, titan_uranus, DeeSpencer 2 - Dee Zephyr, DemonDave, Macca 1 - Layzie, JV7, Dr. Gonzo We haven't seen Dappa as yet but everyone else is off the mark. Been an easy start to the season with regards to tipping road winners but that can and almost certainly will change. Everyone got a point this week which must be a first ... 2 points on offer coming up in week 5 I'll post up the games tomorrow night but Friday's game sees the Bucs @ Chicago. That could be a real interesting game. Foles vs Brady again unless the Bears switch their QB

Some Group 1 replays from the weekend ... leading off with the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe & the Preakness Stakes, then the big events held here in Oz
-
Well the games went ahead as scheduled whilst the postponed Titans/Steelers game is now earmarked for week 7 Patriots @ Chiefs will now be played tomorrow along with the Falcons @ Packers (2 hours later) Cowboys & Bears both went down at home whilst the Bucs got up after trailing by 17 points. Brady threw 5 TD passes to 5 different receivers

In view of the latest news re positive tests, to have any sort of completed season (or a scaled down season) will require some sort of bubble/hub. The trouble is that each team has a stack of people involved. They'd probably need 8 'movable' hubs. Might even be too big for the Americans to get their heads around. The season will possibly be suspended for a time anyway Tomorrow's games will probably go ahead but who knows for sure? An 11th hour decision might be imminent

I was thinking along similar lines a month or 2 ago ... but more so for any big time sport or sporting events or match-ups Most of the rest of the world is seeing empty stadiums where as we're in a unique situation both here and in NZ (in terms of stadium crowds) But you'd have to wonder whether either Government would let so many players & officials into either country How many associated with every team? 250 - 400 per team? x 32 teams that's a lot of would-be carriers of the virus But I reckon we will see some sporting events relocated here or in NZ. What scale, who knows? Your's is a good idea but the practicalities & logistics presents some real issues. It could work but only if there is a huge buy-in from all involved
-
A lot have picked the Saints too Might be best to null & void the week to be fair to all. I don't think anyone will mind but we should give things a bit more time before making a call either way Any feedback welcomed Not everyone visits this thread all that often and the decision to postpone games can happen late Are they doing hubs in the NFL? If not, they might have to. But logistically it would be a nightmare with so many players involved and the practice facilities required.

Watching the finals highlights how below standard our actual disposal, decision making and efficiency is. Also, the forward lines of the finals team's are way ahead of our lot. Playing in front in the forward line is something the good teams can do but we continually fall short This season our forwards were caught playing from behind (or having their opponent lead them to the ball) on hundreds of occasions. And it's been that way most seasons since 2006. It's any wonder we can't win when it counts. The eyes say it all Going hard at the footy isn't an issue in other parts of the ground and and winning the footy isn't that great a problem in those areas either. But as for the rest of it .. We need an injection of real talent as the current list is way behind the best. Especially in the forward line

Titans/Steelers game postponed And now the New England @ KC game has been postponed due to Cam Newton testing positive to COVID-19 They may play that game on Tuesday or Wednesday. Thankfully, no one has tipped the Pats here so it's business as usual. The Vikings/Houston game will be going ahead But as previously stated, you must select 3 road winners to gain points. If one of your tips involves a postponed game you'll need to re-do your tips (involving any postponed game only) We're going to get an interrupted season week to week by the looks of it. Ugh

Yeah, we've all had those days Gorg. Gator tipped me into the winner in the last - Khoekhoe. Got 11-1 midweek Ended up just over even for the day but I'll take that. Today I went close on a number of exacta's but you win some, you lose some
-
And a number of the pundits picked against Verry Elleegant because of the good going Proved them wrong The one that caught people out in the exotics was Toffee Tongue. Hindsight tells us that it was way over the odds and very nearly won the race. Favourite wins but the exacta paid 347!

Kolding Wins! Followed this horse for quite some time now ... great acceleration when it counts and continues to run great times on good to firm surfaces Double your winnings converts to 8-1 with the early odds. Gotta love that!
-
Dollar for Dollar ran another great race Thought you might have been on it ... I was on it in an exacta.
-
I just noticed that ... my place multi is down to 2 now! I put my exacta's on tomorrow and I'll add another pick to the other 2 to boost up the odds in a place multi ... you got another choice JV? No rush
-
Got it in an exacta and a place multi Same as Gorg's Best JV Got your's in an exacta and a place multi Good luck to all that are having a punt tomorrow. Nearly all the races at Flemington are good betting races whilst up at Randwick, there are some real standouts that appeal
