Yes, equal 2nd is not to be sneezed at layz! I've got a few (virtual) silvers (across the 2 comps) but Gorg has a stack of Bronze medals ... as well as 4 wins IIRC If you hang around long enough, the podium finishes will eventuate Hard to believe that this is our 10th go at it! Time flies!

We could be quite active in the draft with all this player movement The following are all guesses/approximates Bedford (pick 35) Hunt (pick 52) Harmes (pick 25) Jackson (picks 10 & 13 - this year) Our own picks 32 & 50 So 10, 13, 25, 32, 35, 50 & 52) We could bundle up picks 35, 50 & 52 for pick 23 (we could deal with GWS again) Ending with picks 10, 13, 23, 25 & 32 We have to give Collingwood something for Grundy but what if we decide to pay more of his salary and not have to give them much of a draft pick (we 'are' freeing up our salary cap) Effectively we end up with Grundy and 5 picks (all 1st & 2nd round) and only lose 1 required player (Jackson) We could go to the draft with all the picks thus easing pressure on the salary cap (with low cost draftees) or use 2 or 3 of the picks on established talent (if we have the cap space)

Yes, as soon as we re-signed Brayshaw my thoughts were that we'd organised an in-principle agreement with Freo for Jackson But as someone else said, to satisfy our needs for Jackson in a trade, Freo need to trade to then get trade value for Jackson So we might be waiting a while and the Grundy deal might have to wait a while as well As it stands right now our lowest pick is somewhere in the early to mid 30's and that may not be enough for Grundy (pick 18 - 24?)

The issue for Freo is getting the capital to satisfy our want. Once they've done that we can get the Grundy deal done And the Grundy deal has probably been agreed to as well List management starts really early these days ... for instance the Scully deal was done at least a year out (in my opinion)

At no stage did I ever say that Jackson will end up at North But it is a possibility if an agreement isn't made with Freo or West Coast Same as when Nick Stevens ended up at Carlton (pre-season draft) when Port wouldn't accept unders from Collingwood in a trade And I'd be surprised if we don't reach an agreement with one of the WA clubs (probably Freo) for Jackson But I'll take the Billion to 1 odds anyway ... I'll have a fiver on at those odds

Well I disagree because we can still win out if a deal can't be struck with Freo (or the Eagles) He either stays with us because of a stalemate or heads to North in the pre-season draft (and he won't do that as apparently he wants to go back to WA) We need to hold our nerve and play hard ball Also, it needs to be factored in that LJ going to Freo strengthens a rival. Why would we want to do that? (for meagre offerings) West Coast less so (as a rival) but we've seen them rise up the ladder quickly before He's out of contract but he is still our player to trade. He's not a free agent so he doesn't get to call the shots We control his destiny Years ago I would have expected the club to possibly cave in but not now. We've already come out and said that Freo aren't offering what we want That will continue until we do get what we want (and what we want will be a reasonable outcome all round) It also needs to be remembered that if a deal isn't struck with Freo or West Coast, LJ won't be going home to play footy North stand in the way in the pre-season draft and they've probably got a pitch prepared for LJ if they get a chance to snare him Stand out of footy with no dollars? I don't think so especially when he can command $700k plus per year. Who would pass on that sort of money?

Accepting unders is out of the question as you never want to sell yourself short North would gazump the clubs from the West in the pre-season draft (if it got that far) as they'd be getting LJ for nothing ... apart from paying him an agreed upon salary (organised prior to the draft) There is a chance that if a deal can't be done LJ re-signs with us and then the Grundy deal falls flat (cop that Collingwood) However, Freo or maybe the Eagles will find a way to satisfy us you'd imagine. If they want him badly enough, they'll find a way
