  1. Think of the backmen!! The big spoil over the boundary is guaranteed crowd applause as the play holds up, with the defender running back to defensive 50 with a big smile on his face. With less than 10 possies per game, what will the Al Nicholsons and Matthew Warnocks of this world hang their hat on?

  2. If another person mentions "but what about the 100x100m at Christmas" again I'll spew

It takes a consistent dedication to a training and fitness regimen to get to the level and maintain that level of an elite athlete. And the right attitude on how to apply that fitness, not picking and choosing when is right for me

He's not running around with his mates in the ammos

Did you have a look at our list and games played and compare it to other clubs like I suggested or are you just anti-Goodwin like everyone else?

Yes I am anti-Goodwin for the reasons outlined above.

And I agree with you we (mostly) have a very talented and young list

But your point is irrelevant as it is talent that will be wasted further if we don't make change IMO. This expectation that things will just work out as they become more experienced is false

Look closely at our list and games played and compare it to any other team in the league. Seriously. If you do and want to refute that as a reason why we still struggle sometimes then get back to me. You will lose the argument. We are poised for a major dynasty. Enjoy the next few months off peeps.

Nah, no use having a great list with a poor gameplan and system. More years will be wasted with the current football dept.

Need an urgent review - new approach, better coaching systems, accountability and ongoing monitoring.

Couple of list delistings and additions would be handy too - No. 1 being tall and small forward targets that read the play and implement a proper system No. 2 being smart midfielders that also play well to organised team system.

No more chaos ball! (Goodwin's only legacy so far)

  5. Glad to have gotten over the line, shame about letting the Bombers back in the last but we lifted at the end there. Now it's a waiting game...

Hunt showed what he can do. Lock for starting forwardline if he keeps that up

Weid so frustrating, he has plenty of these games where he can't get to the right positions. He really struggles to read the play IMO

Melksham nowhere. What is his role? What happened since 2018?? Very lazy

They don't call Gil the murderer for nothin.

This will create chaos for clubs and competitions.

Why would you even attempt it in 2021?

Lay out a strategy by all means but maybe give it 6 months of feedback and planning and aim for something sustainable in 2022.

    Stop talking sense. Thanks, Gill

  7. Loss of love for the game/job?? Low motivation.

There also seems to be an obsession in the industry to focus so much on adding more strings to a player's bow, to offer flexibility of course, but at the severe detriment to the strengths they had in the first place

I didn't say it was.  It's why I highlighted clearances and contested possies, which are what we build our game on.

Yep and I highlighted that stat because it doesn't matter if you win contests if you butcher the ball

    Anyway, let's go!

When you look at the stats, we're doing okay.  We lead in clearances and contested possies.

However, the same problem arises - when we go forward, the ball is hitting the deck, and they run it out with ease.  There were at least three times they ran it from half back to inside 50 without us touching it.  Our set up is letting us down big time.

And let's be honest - these conditions don't suit guys like ANB, Vanders, Smith etc.  Fumbles and turnovers galore.

Didn't know that 50% disposal efficiency was considered okay...

    Compares to 75.3% for Freo

Really stupid players and horrible coaching. Still, three quarters left to atone!

    Why stop at five?

    1. Round 23, 2017 vs Collingwood for obvious reasons

    2. Round 2, 2019 vs Geelong - confirmation of everything I was worried about after the pre-season

    3. Round 21, 2018 vs Sydney - had finals in our grasp and botched it. Fortunately wiped out by heroics the next week

    4. Round 15, 2018 vs St Kilda - caving against a lowly team when there were serious finals implications

    5. Round 4, 2018 vs Hawthorn - mitigated somewhat by belting a heap of sides a few weeks later

    6. Round 19, 2017 vs North when we had a roaring wind in the last quarter and couldn't overturn a six point deficit.

    7. Round 9, 2020 vs Port

    8. Round 15, 2020 vs Sydney

    9. Round 22, 2019 vs Sydney - a stench of death classic

    10. Round 4, 2017 vs Freo - the day Cam McCarthy gave us the full Kingsley

I've been overseas since 2012 and that was the first live game I had seen since leaving as I always visit in summer. Still the only live game I've seen us play in 8 years...?

Our midfield dont play team midfield it is all individual.  We never seen any blocks making space.  It starts the ball goes up we should know where Max is tapping it but there seems to be no communication from max to tell mids where he is trying to hit to.  Then ball comes out our mids play like u9s everyone goes to the Ball and wants the ball.

Again no one tries to block to create space for an easy exit, we allow pressure on the ball carrier 1m flick handball, repeat 2 more times before turnover our a bomb kick out.  Individual effort not team effort.

Forward line is the same, no one works for their team mate they all go to the same spot and compete for same mark.  No blocks to create space no front and square.

Seems we work on team defensive structure when we dont have the ball, but as soon as we get it we have no sense of the selfless acts to help out team mates.

Credit to the backline they do work together to protect each other.

Absolutely spot on! Was going to say exactly the same thing. Midfield and forwards very questionable whereas backline has mostly been good (hurt last game by loss of Hibberd and having OMac and Smith back)

Also thought another poster's comments about Langdon being a revelation in terms of run. He stands out so much in contrast to our midfield that have really poor movement and structure around contests. He is continually moving, anticipating play and space. We desperately need a better balance in the midfield

  12. Honestly at times they play an auskick brand of footy like a running scrum of kids following the ball. Getting in each others way, fumbling constantly and handballing to players under the pump instead of a release to a running player that has slipped their man.

Oh what I would give to be in the inner sanctum and know what they are actually training in terms of setups and scenarios. Comes across like a rinse and repeat, stick to what we do attitude. Other clubs seem to do their homework and have a clear plan for us

  13. His right thigh was strapped right?

This may explain the left foot kicks and not being confident taking his set shot. Would have looked even worse if he took the set shot left footed!

But if so, then seriously question whether he should have been out there on the field

  14. Bunch of Hollywood prima donnas

Too many playing for themselves or trying to pull off the impossible. Where are the fundamentals? Where are the second efforts? Not just in the contest but around the ground. Poor structure and flat today

Forward line was invisible. I have no clue what the plan is, so many of our forwards aren't getting close to the drop of the ball. How can this be? Where are they then??
