POSTGAME: Rd 20 vs Fremantle
No shame in that Nasher. Along with the siren going & the post siren goal from Macca i would say this is one of the happiest moments in my life.

Weather most likely a factor Ox. Also the other factor may have been the condition of the surface. Looked pretty ordinary and those patches they threw on at the last minute, what was that!? Looked like a practice / nets pitch lol. Just guessing but looked like it could have caused a completely different under foot feel and firmness (ice skating on the new stuff vs chopped up a little & ploddy everywhere else??).

CHANGES: Rd 21 vs Collingwood
If Harmes was in 2021 form ....possibly. A long way off it and coming back from a head knock. Doubt we would risk him for this role. Someone does need to run with N Daicos though. Pretty sure he drifts forward a fair bit. Maybe Jordan through the middle and Hibb picks him up for the forward bit?

CHANGES: Rd 21 vs Collingwood
He's gives me the impression he's a distributor, mostly by hand (elite!) and very effective here. I would argue possibly close to the best or maybe the best at the club right now. I see him (rightly or wrongly) as possibly a very handy defensive sweeper at center bounces or sitting off the back of stoppage. I suspect he's starting to also get a little more of the contested ground balls in traffic as well (Casey level). Running limitations and kicking skills/finish however? Although even the latter seems to have improved as the season's worn on, more so his finish at goals vs hitting targets. Someone might also wish to comment on his defensive side? That's almost a separate watch in itself if you are to pick up on all the little nuances (and that assumes you know what to look for... my knowledge here is most likely pretty ordinary).

CHANGES: Rd 21 vs Collingwood
Played mostly forward at Casey. If my eyes weren't deceiving me some sort of HHF role with a few possessions up the ground as well. Not sure if he played a full game or not as i don't recall seeing much of him early but could be just old age haha. Not a stand out game by any means but hit some contests and looked lively at times for his first game back.

Round 20, 2022 Optus Stadium - Dockers vs Demons Brayshaw back into the middle with a bang! His second best rating for the season. His best against the Bombers in Rnd three with a top of the table 6.35 Let's look at a few highlights... 20 effectives @ 71% efficiency. 4 Clearances (all from stoppage), 9 inside 50s, 6 tackles, 7 score involvements, a massive 9 intercepts, 564 meters gained (the most for the Demons). Tracc's second number one rating since his return after his covid week off. 26 effectives @ 87%, 6 clearances, 7 inside 50s, 8 tackles (3 inside 50), 10 score involvements, 491 meters gained and a miserly 2 turnovers. The team's overall rating of 62.33 was off last year's average of 67.23 by 7% and further off this year's (68.81). So i'd be tempering this performance a little, even given the greasy conditions and playing away. That's a fair way off and we would need a major lift from some of the stars and next rung players to beat the Pies IMV who are probably running at another level at this point. Namely the likes of Clarry, Max, Jackson, Salem, Sparrow, Lever, ANB & Weid (if playing). It was only one match so not hanging my hat on just Friday night's performance from those listed, but Even May was off this season's and last season's average by 21%. That's a fair amount of form to claw back within a week (that's if the numbers are a reasonable indicator of form which in this case they may not be of course...could be many factors that lead to that rating on this particular night). Yes good point. Judgement a wee off. May have had one too many Maker's Marks at my end Not that it means a huge deal but also backed up statistically. Well up on 2021...

CHANGES: Rd 21 vs Collingwood
I would say he's playing well without ball in hand Jnr. Not so well with it at present.

Farewell Luke Jackson
If only you could stick an old head on young shoulders. His mum & dad need to get in his ear and tell him what a huge mistake he's about to make. Don't do it son! Stay and help stamp your mark on the forthcoming dynasty! 3 years is nothing to acheive greatness. Before you know it you'll be back home afterwards to celebrate!

POSTGAME: Rd 20 vs Fremantle
Melk finding some form & Gus into the middle might make it difficult for Harmes to get back in. Not saying he won't but yeh

Completely different circumstances and team vs that debacle.

CASEY: Rd 19 vs Northern Bullants
Straight in for the Weid. In great form the last three matches and couldnt do any worse. Apologies to Weid and wish him all the best. Lovely young fella and might turn it up at some point. But he's had plenty of chances to solidify his place and hasn't quite taken things to a level required to cement. We have absolutely nothing to lose by playing JVR for the rest of the season unless he gets fatigued. Highly lilely of course but it's time to roll the die. JVR will present a completely different prospect for the oppo. Bloke can play and take key marks at times even against solid defenders. Can split a pack as well and gets to a number of contests to do so. Will take a while to settle but his time has arrived. Exciting stuff. Let's go Demons!!

Yes to all the above except the putting on more weight issue. Weid is as big as he gonna get and aint small (weight wise i believe he is sitting on 95/96kgs). He's in the prime of his athletic shape right now and this last season or two is the time most KFs start turning it on. That we are considering JVR as a likely replacement at 19 ...kind of says it all. Weid averages just a smidgen over a goal a game since his debut. It's not exactly mouth watering stuff from someone who's been in the system for 6 plus seasons now and an average more akin to a half decent small forward. I would give him one more game to try and show something and allow BB a run at Casey as you suggested. JVR one more week to see whether he can bring the consistency at that level prior to a debut the following week. The most realistic likelihood though is if BBB is fit he will get the call up to replace Weideman. if not i would say Weid will get yet another opportunity vs the Pies. Personally think JVR was ready for a small entre against Port. Ship may have sailed there this season. Goody isn't very daring when it comes to changing personnel. Would be wise to take note of Casey form though in my opinion and should have blooded JVR and given Chandler his first look (this season) against Port. Even if they didn't quite cut the mustard, it sends a bit of a reminder to some of the fringe players that their level / effort needs to be high and consistent if they're to keep getting a game in the 22. You slack off (eg., zero tackles, hardly any pressure acts, not doing the team D things etc) you're out.

Assuming Harmes needs another week and BB is fit? Out: Weid, ANB In: BBB, Chandler If BB isn't fit... In: JVR, Chandler

POSTGAME: Rd 20 vs Fremantle
Gus is much craftier than our other mids. He's also a solid D as we've seen all year but doesn't offer the line breaking run of Hibberd (to a lessor extent but it's still there), Hunt or, at times, Rivers. Quick reaction time and smarts in terms of decision making (handball vs quick kick vs roll and gun vs the old one/two). Certainly has more tricks in his bag. Speaking of Hibberd i thought he was super tonight.

And dont play the slackest of rolling zones....up on them and in their face from the get go, only reverting to the above when the game was well and truly beyond doubt in the last quarter.

GAMEDAY: Rd 20 vs Fremantle
Much better from Sparrow there. One the contest first, picked up the ball and rolled inboard then kicked long to top of the square

Jackson soft as butter today. Playing a man down.

GAMEDAY: Rd 20 vs Fremantle
We finally dumped that bog awful half to 3/4 ground fold back zone. Too easily sliced and diced and plays into Freo's game style big time in particular. In their face from the get go and thats how it should be if you're gonna win against the top clubs. Not sure why we revert to the former so often. Looks great when everyone's in form and up and running on top of the ground early in the season. Once the real stuff starts and the pressure goes up it's too easily picked apart.

GAMEDAY: Rd 20 vs Fremantle
Absolutely. He just doesnt look like it at any stage from any position on the ground
